Hey guys,

With this recent uproar about SC2 shows being only about protecting business ties, I seriously am considering doing a weekly broadcast about recent news in SC2 from a fan perspective. The show would (ideally) bring on multiple SC2 personalities, ask the hard questions, and give an attempt to give the least biased portrayal of the show as possible.

What makes me qualified to head up such a project, you ask?

Simple - I'm one of you. I don't get paid the big bucks by MLG, NASL, Steelseries, or anyone. I'm someone that hears news, has opinions and questions, and has pretty much no ties to the situation. I wonder the same things you do about various leagues and always say "Man, I wish I could ask them this on behalf of the wondering community."

What would a show like this look like?
1. Weekly recap of the show with myself and preferably other people (think State of the Game but with level-headed, intelligent fans) while we offer our opinions and chat about the issues.
2. Interviews with SC2 personalities and ask them the hard hitting questions (Why does MLG money pool suck, why does NASL have a hard time doing things right, insert the issue your pissed out about here, etc. etc.)

I mean it may not hit at all, but I really want to give it a try and see if it takes off. Personalities like Day[9] aren't the best because we like him the most, its because he is pretty unbiased on almost all fronts (besides him being friends with these guys, but he seems to leave that out when discussing issues).

PM me or post in this thread if you have any thoughts. I'll give out email/skype to anyone that seems legitimately interested in making a project work.

lololol sc2 shows about business ties slowly the casters become as corrupt as politicians.........jk

What you are doing is awesome do it. But make sure you aren't copying someone else, I feel like maybe DJwheat has some daily SC2 news or someone does. TBH, I even feel hearing commentaries on recent events is the best by SOTG. You'd have to find a nice niche to get me.

MLG does a daily thing with SC center, but the point of this would be to get away from corporate ties. I love what djWHEAT does on onemoregame.tv but like he has sponsors to live up to and corporate obligations. I kinda want this thing to be able to ask people like Sundance, NASL people, IPL people, EG, Liquid, etc. why things aren't the way they should be without the fear of pissing off my money, so to speak.

Like I said, there may be no interest in this, but I feel like people would like this because it gives them an opportunity to have a voice.

Why would an incontrol on your show say anything different than an incontrol on SOTG?

Don't really understand your vision.

Is an incontrol on ITG or SOTG asked any difficult questions? (I'm not trying to play bash with my examples incoming) I would ask things to the nature of, "Can you explain the drop in your performance since MLG Dallas? More practice has been your answer for a while but with you going to the EG Lair and having a full workday to practice, why are the results still not there?" These types of questions don't really get asked on shows.

The questions ESPN, ABC, etc. ask the sports athletes. Those interviews are usually really good because ESPN doesn't have an obligation to Ohio State, or Florida, or the Broncos, or what have you. They just ask the questions that people want to hear the answers to.

Think Frost vs. Nixon, I'm not letting people get away with sidestepping the questions and giving the same answer they always do.

I think SOTG asks pretty decent questions.

But like you said, they have ties to people and organizations, why would they want to go on your show knowing you're going to ask questions that them answering could hurt their image? And even if they did wouldn't they just give you the watered down version?

I'm not saying don't do it, I just wouldn't expect it to be anything more than you and your friends talking about starcraft, which is fine.

Yeah I think that would be a good way to go about it. Shoot some "episodes" or whatever, maybe get lucky and land an interview with a decent player and get on the map!

I don't know, if this was something that the community wanted from the fans though, I could see them almost being "forced" by people into answering the questions. Like the community is already calling people out on their shit, telling them, "be honest with us or we won't support you" is a great testament. I want my favorite players to be honest about what's going on with their gameplay.

Idk, maybe your right and I'm slightly over optimistic : /

I'm already in the process of starting a series of interviews with pros community members and such where I have no affiliation with any esports associations.

Nice man. Do you need help with anything? I guess it would make more sense to band together rather than start a bunch of these separate things.

Have you heard of the sc2 radio show that casts for an hour or so a couple nights a week? If you haven't, you're probably being a little too optimistic. There're a completely independent little thing going over events kinda like SOTG does, and I believe they do a few other things but I don't watch. In essence, they've been doing something similar but don't have the fan base, get my drift?

If you do try to do something like this, my biggest piece of advice is the following:
1. Assume all your listeners already listened to STG. Hold it after Tuesday night(obv), I think Wednesday or Thursday would be best. SOTG is quite through in their work, other than covering the euro scene =p You'll want to mirror their thoughts as little as possible. This is obviously hard because they tend to talk topics to death before moving on (a good thing imo), so you won't have as much input to give. Still, you have to cover the basics, but try not to be too repetitive.

2. Never Ever Ever forget why you started this project: to present a talk show that SOTG is incapable of. Your ability to call out bullshit and point out the large errors of the big name events (MLG, NASL messups, etc) is your BIGGEST CRUTCH.

Thanks for the post! Yeah I totally think bullet point 2 is the biggest thing, calling out bullshit is gonna be the biggest hit of the show. Getting sc2 personalities on the show to talk about news (STOG but with rotating people) would be sick to.

Dude whatever the odds or the counter arguments are - do what day9 say and just fucking do it
Just do it the best you can and see what comes out! Nothing bad will happen if it doesnt tourn out great you will still have gained lots of experience and skills.
The most important thing to have is a strong vision of what you want it to be like! Just go do it.

Don't think. Just do it.

Anyway, this is one of the many reasons I do not follow such bullshit like SotG anymore.

Everyone has an agenda these days.

Oh,

For the record Sean edits himself all the time and you won't get straight answers from many SC2 personalities as you call it.

A no holds barred show made for the fans by the fans? Make a pilot show, I'd love to see where it will lead.

I'd love to get involved in this for sure. A show that asks the real questions, not the fluffy bias ones that may come up in any internview where money is on the line and their job.

Didn't actually watch neither MLG og Dreamhack because of the insane amount of commercials and downtime. I know it has little to do with what ur proposing (which I think is a good idea) but just wanted to say that I agree with the sentiment about sc2 becoming a little too much business with non-stop commercials, way to much political correctness.

I think this is why people like Idra and Destiny have so big fanbases. Because they say what they think. Even if it's stupid.
Hearing about some lame ass product or a player promising to "practice harder for next time" gets pretty damn boring. Fast.

Go do ur thing and keep it as real as possible. I think that would be a step in the right direction.

Ps. sorry if my post makes no sense lol, just needed to say some stuff
