It is now the 28th of November, 2011.

Normally my days look like the following:
Get up, go to school, get back home, video game (or E-Sports) related stuff. And I've been fine with that for the last 8 years.
But today on the bus ride towards school, I had a clear moment. I realized that in those 8 years, I've been answering everything with the stuff that people want to hear.

"Do you enjoy your current education?"
- "Yes, I really enjoy it."

"What do you wish to achieve?"
- "I would like to become an Architect."

I was preparing my life to be a "9 to 5"-drag, on which I would hate myself for it for the rest of my working carreer and would regret it for the rest of my life.

At first on High school, I told people I wanted to be a DJ. I realized that that might not be the right decision for me. So I switched to becoming an architect, I made it to part 1 out of 3 of the total education process.
(1: First 4 years of College, 2: Second 4 years of College, 3: 4 years or so, of University).

So I made that, stood there, posing to the camera's with my diploma in my hand, realizing... I don't want to be an Architect.
Now I'm doing a Interactive Media education, which will probably take 4 years to complete. And here as well, I'm responding to questions with answering they want to hear.

"Do you enjoy your current education?"
- "Yes, I really enjoy it."

"What do you wish to achieve?"
- "I would like to do something with commercials."

But the matter of fact is, I don't really give a sh*t about commercials, building websites, or drawing buildings, or whatever the f*ck. And that is what I realized this morning, in the bus ride towards this school.

So... here I am, hours away of failing a test I don't give a sh*t about...

You know what I want to do?
All I want to do is, help E-Sports grow over the entire Western Civilization.

You'll probably see me soon, 'cause I'll get there.

EDIT: Okay, to clear up some things: I do already have a degree, I just started my current education.
I'd like to contribute in E-Sports by being some sort of news writer.

I know where you're coming from, but accepting failure now might leave you with regret later on, there was a point in my current degree that I was borderline dropping out. I lost all motivation to do what I was doing and I failed 2 subjects in one semester just because I didn't study for one of the finals and didn't bother turning up for the other. I regret those decisions now because after thinking it through I was already halfway in to the degree. But here I am now with graduation in three weeks and looking to see what will come in the next year. If you are just starting out your tertiary education to just pursue E-Sports, it might be a good idea to do it as a side project or something and see if you can sustain it somehow. (no idea what you plan to do, cast, player, etc). E-Sports is growing but it's not such an easy scene to bust into that you can warrant just dropping everything in your life to get into, don't get me wrong I wish it were that easy, but to believe that would be naive.

btw You don't live at with your parents or anything right?

So how do you plan to help espors grow? Do you have founds to support teams? Or do you commentate? Do you play at high level? How do you plan to make money out of all this? Because I feel like, nowadays too many people are trying to milk this esports cow.

the bolded part is really funny, because before i fully read your post i went to the bathroom and thought about how people who think they can be a starcraft commentator "because I like starcraft!" are just like the people who think they can be a DJ because "I like music!"

But why not get a degree? Something to fall back on. You're allowed to go for your dreams, but shouldn't you be somewhat realistic?

hmm, as far as i'm concerned after reading this post, the only thing E-sport changed about your life is it screwed it up. Think twice about that decision of yours and don't make another post with a photo of you and a computer with you asking yourself those same questions.

I'm confused. Esports is a very broad term. What exactly do you plan to do within esports?

Most people who got into esports had jobs or a practical future before they went completely into the scene....I don't really know of anyone (besides the actual progamers themselves) who just quit everything they were working for, got into the scene, and succeeded. You don't seem very practical about this situation...but glhf?

There's a big difference between what you want to do NOW and what you want to do in the LONG RUN, these "do what you want to do" kind of advice most of the time don't get people anywhere.

You can't just say you want to help Esports...you need some focus. That's like saying you want to contribute to science - very broad! Maybe if you can find a niche that is interesting and can really get people to notice your work you might have a chance.

Make sure you don't throw away your chance for an education for esports, it's nice to have something to fall back on should you need it!
