Hey guys,
as probably 90% of you guys I'm in total Skyrim fever today. Im really excited to see everything and explore a completely new world. There is only one tiny problem. It's called Steam. This morning I patiently waited for my amazon package to arrive. After I ripped the packaging apart, I thrusted the dvd right into my Pc. While downloading steam, I gazed at the wonderful map that comes with the game. After steam was downloaded, I instantly started the installer. Somehow it started, but was over after like 20 seconds, which is a bit shot for 5 gb since my pc is not a high end one. But whatever. After that the game tries to log into steam. After 20-30 crashes while loading, it finally started so I could log into Steam. But what do I see? Hurr, 5,5 gb of an update! WTF? Why do I buy a dvd if I still have to download 6gb? If I go into 'reinstall mode' it just says 'Checking Steam Chache 100%' but after 20 minutes still nothing happened. After that I was raging pretty hard since it takes like 6 hours for me to download 6 gb. So I decided to try installing on my brothers pc. After starting steam, a 'starting steam hurhurrhurr' window comes up, but just like at my own pc nothing happens after that. It's ridiculous! But that is not all. After downloading like 1gb: ' Steam servers are busy, try again later ' But that didnt work, so I restarted steam. Yea nice idea Xiron, steam not starting again. Awesome. Thanks steam! I just wanted to play the most epic game since Oblivion. Now I have to spend 8 hours waiting for your shit to run properly.
Im so sad right now. T_T

why didnt you just buy it on steam and preload it 3 days before it came out

Some people have this thing called "Bandwidth Caps" and they can't always spare the extra bandwidth, so they prefer to buy a retail copy to avoid wasting their bandwidth.

1st: It was cheaper. 2nd: I hate steam and dont want to support them 3rd: As I said it takes ages to download, so why not just install from a DVD that is cheaper than downloading?

Why do I have to be online on Steam for a game that has no online component? Cant explain that!

Why dont you like Skyrim? Btw what do you mean by console ports? Google doesnt tell me :<

you can run steam while offline and still play stuff and if you get disconnected from steam ingame it also doesnt matter
|
i didn't say i don't like skyrim, i'm just not hyped for it. i might play it some time, but certainly not right now.
and console port as in "developed on and for game consoles (xbox/playstation etc) but made playable on pc as well", meaning it sucks to play on pc because it usually shows several symptoms of "crashes when you alt tab or some popup throws you out of fullscreen", "provides nearly no configuration options", "has a game-pad designed user-interface", etc.

You can still play steam games without being connected to the internet, they do have an offline mode, I'd recommend trying that if it really bugs you that much... Steam certainly isn't the best-designed thing out there, but I still enjoy it :p

you don't have to be online... your hate for steam seems like misguided fear
console port means that during development the game is programmed and optimized for a console first, then later modified (ported) to be run on a pc. (or it means something close to that). So more unexpected bugs happen on the pc version, since there is an additional layer of modification.

At first I was like wtf... what the hell's the point of a CD if it has to download the install from online? My mind was blown. Did I really waste my time with a midnight release for a map and still have to wait 5 hours to play when I could have just bought off steam and preload. I don't know why it's set default to download and not install off of disc. Luckily I found this from another forum.
