Just certain things that is said in the comic seem wrong. Like in the 1980's nuclear war seemed inevitable. I'm old enough to remember 1980's and that's just not true. I don't know anyone who was afraid of nuclear war in 1980s. The 50's and 60's sure but the 80's? Or the "Stephen Hawking becoming a name in the 1970's" comment. That is off as well since I doubt anyone outside of astrophysics knew about him before a brief history of time came out (which was in the late 80's). Everything just seems too cliche and "Forrest-Gumpy" to me vs a real life. So again I would love to be proved wrong but until then I'm going to hold on to my tears. You're completely correct to doubt - as really we should doubt the authenticity of anything on the internet...(or anything really) But I took the piece for what it was and enjoyed the thought and message regardless. I have a habit of just taking these storys at face value and assuming it's about 50/50 it's real or not... thereby letting myself enjoy it as a stroy where the truth of it doesn't matter. (ya forest gump made me tear up a little too) Not to defend the auther, as I simply don't know, but his point about the war in the 80s makes sense to me as it was the last decade that nuclear war was a reality (just think of all the 80's movies). The issues with the dates don't bother me as much as an 80 year old playing twitch based fps games (when actually there are so many games out there that 80 years can play just as well anyone else) but hey it's all just nitpicking... but still I enjoyed it

Touching story, even if fake though

Would have been significantly better if it was simply well-written out, instead it just looks like more internet derpery.

They aren't terrible or stupid, it's subjective anyways and their purpose doesn't have to be to make things humoristic. It's just something that author decided to put there - and this something usually doesn't have a lot to do with the reasons some people react with sharp disagreement and rejection. Some people just like to pick on something and talk about how stupid it is and when you look at the reasons they have, they really don't have any valid ones, they just want to criticise something. Not saying it cannot be disliked, it's just that some people ignore what author could have in mind - in effect, they criticise something without understanding it.
