So I finally played my placement match today for Season 4, and got placed once again in Platinum (was scared I was gonna hit gold, haven't been doing too well lately).
And my first 6 games went just fine. All wins for me (YAY!) but nothing to really brag about. I was having fun, because we all know that you have more fun when you're winning than losing. So here I am playing some ladder games in a really friendly and good mood.
But then I hit my first loss. It was on Antiga Shipyard, and it was a bit of fail scouting on my part. I didn't really care that much, I knew I should have seen that third going down. Oh well, will try again next time.
But the next game starts, and after the usual "GL HF" the dude asks me if I like Mondays...
We all know what this means... Someone is trying to Funday Monday me! I frantically ask my friend next to me what this week's funday monday is, but he doesnt know, and googling it while playing sc2 is not an option. He carries on about Mondays and I mention DayJ and we exchange some decent banter. Eventually I tire of it and carry on with the game.
So instead of the forge FE I was planning, I played the safest 3 gate sentry opening I could against this zerg player. I lost a bit of time responding to him and forgot my 2nd pylon, and that annoyed me. But then what happens... He goes for a standard muta-ling game. I held it off pretty decently, but eventually succumbed to the loss. He then PMs me after game saying the Funday Monday thing was just a distraction.
But what has SC2 come to? Sure, if you want to just chat someone and distract them, fine. But don't use Funday Monday to do it, pretty please? It makes me want to just kick you in the (not so shiny) jewels. I guess in the end it's my fault, and I should just block everyone every game, but then the community just loses all its friendliness it once had.
TL;DR --> Don't use "Funday Monday" to distract people on ladder. We let our guard down on standard builds because we trust you be honourable when calling a Funday Monday.

Interesting distraction.

Did you not scout at all?
With probe scout + hallu you could have avoided this T_T.

What if the Funday Monday is muta-ling I haven't watched Day[9] recently, but it could have been something like tech to mutas before something.
I think instead of meta gaming someone, just do your normal FFE and scout then respond as if you didn't hear him say that.
|
If someone ever said something like that to me I would perform the most abusive gimmicky build available so that a bit of his soul will disappear into the nether reaches of the SC2 ladder.
|
Everytime someone starts up chatting in the first 3 minutes it sets off red flags for me and I'll do as much scouting as I can! ( looking for proxies vs and or fast wall vs )

LOL, just accept it, we all get cheesed, just move on and try it on someone else. Spread the love. :D
edit: typo

Which units did you restrict yourself to? Sentries and?

LOL, you are trying to take an unfair advantage someway because you think he's funday-monday-ing you, that's your own fault.
You should still, just react to what you scout.
|
so you tried to metagame him and decided not to scout at all expecting something crazy and are upset because you lost? I didn't know there were people out there who fell for this kind of stuff.

This pretty much sums it up. if you lag for a second, and then see zzzzzzzzzzzz across the screen, you'll probably think about making some zealots to hold the incoming ling aggression.
But if he was just juking you, and expanded and was just messing around, would you be upset?
This is basically the exact same thing. You and your opponent shared a love of day9, be happy that you were able to connect to another person, instead of him just cussing at you
|
so someone saying good luck and have fun in all caps means cheese fun-day monday and therefore he is a dick for actually playing standard?
What has the ladder come to..
|
Well people sometimes ask u questions right before they let there banelingbust run into u and other stuff. I normaly don't get into long conversations with my oponent since i cant realy write and play. (unless its like realy early in the game). Sounds like u just have to be more confident in your build order even if u suspect he does some crazy stuff your FFE + scout should be fine.

If you think somebody is trying to funday monday you, why not just get super aggressive on them? Pretty sure about 90% of funday monday builds would just be slaughtered by a 4gate
|
Funday monday is to play against a friend both at 50% handicap. if anyone tries that in a real game they'd get absolutely mauled by anything that does aoe.
Hilarious read though.
edit: lol, "this is key, i need to distract him, i need to do something gay, see i type from with a question mark..." Genius.

The wicker(basket) man strikes again!
Haha TBH most 1v1 Funday Mondays are pretty much suicide, I'd probably double expand or something

LOL, I do kinda of the same thing in p v t. Ill first cry about how much i hate 1/1/1 and how I always lose to it, thus making the terran go 1/1/1. Then Ill proxy 4 gate them :I, and win.

As terran, I say "I'm going to 1-1-1 and theres nothing you can do about it >:D" They like go 1 base mass immortal colossus or some shit and I fast expand. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ill do what I want! I'll funday monday fake you all day! L2 Scout
