I've been thinking about starting a project here on TL. I know there are a number of musicians around here, and I count myself among them (I'm just an amateur though). I've been playing around with Fruity Loops alot lately and wondered what kind of stuff we could produce if we were to start a group collaboration. Here is what I was thinking.
-Anyone who has the Fruity Loops program can assist. -One person starts by writing a few loops and putting it into the playlist. -That person uploads the .FLV file so that others can download it and add, extend, or change the song. -Anyone with a basic understanding of Fruity Loops can assist.
I think we would end up with something pretty cool. It would be interesting to see how the song evolves in different directions. Once we have something resembling a finished product, anyone can download the .FLV file and remix as they see fit.
There would be a bit more to it, but this is the gist of it. What do you guys think? How many people would be interested in something like this?
PS - If anyone is up for just a two or three person collaboration, please shoot me a PM. I would love to work with you on something!

The problem I see with this otherwise decent idea is that everybody in FL and digital music production in general uses different VSTs, and those aren't saved in the .FLV for obvious reasons. That means we would have to limit or productions to the VSTs that come with whatever version we want to use. That's quite a limit in my opinion, I personally have gotten very reliant on VSTs that are actually good. :p

I thought about this as well. I think it would be prudent to outline a short list of VSTs to use. This blog post was meant to kind of get the ball rolling. If there appears to be enough interest, I would make a post in the General forum with guidelines to follow.
What are some VSTs that you like to use? Do you have anything on Soundcloud I can listen to?

Don't have anything uploaded to soundcloud but I have been working with FL for several years. Sytrus is actually a decent software synthesizer that's been part of FL for quite a while. Other external VSTs I like and use are: Massive, Biohazard, Crystal and Poizone for software synthesizers, apEQ and EQUO as equalizers/analyzers and Orchestral, ezdrummer and Pianoteq for real instrument simulation.
Not sure if posting a list with the VSTs is a good idea, these are all expensive plugins and a list makes this look like a piracy kinda thread which is against the forum rules.
Also we would have to decide on a minimal FL version as, I believe, .FLV files aren't downwards compatible.

What if we say stock VSTs only, for the uploading/downloading/editing portion of the project? You can use whatever you want on the finished product. This way the song will not get overly complex as it grows?
