Hello TL! I've been an avid gamer for over half my life and during my years of collecting and playing, I have gathered 58 unique titles and 24 expansion packs of PC games and 8(9) games for my Gameboy Advance.
OK enough background story.
I'm now 21 years old and about to move out to my own place in a couple of months, and all these boxes with games take lots of space, but due to nostalgia I've been hesitant to sell em off.
But today I decided to head out to the local retro game retailer after calling to see if there was any interest in my precious treasures. The guy was not very into it but still didn't blow me off completely like other game retailers had, so I felt this might be my chance to get at least something sold.
I packed a sports bag with the games I thought would generate the most interest and got my ass on the bus.
I finally reach the store and started talking with the guy I had spoken with earlier on the phone and the next thing you know I'm packing up my games from my bag for him to look at, and he types in some stuff on his computer. I just made $40 for my 8 GBA games, however I was a bit sad because my console was stolen years ago with a game inside that would have made me another $10-15 + whatever the console is worth. But never mind that, shit happens and I was thinking yeah this was pretty easy my other games are definitely gonna sell.
"Uhh you had some PC games you wanted me to look at too right?" I have a tendency to start daydreaming but that snapped me out of it. I started unpacking my bag and put my games up on the counter. He took a quick look at them, typed on his computer and called in another guy to look as well.
"Yeah... sorry bro but we don't want any of these."
I felt empty inside. How could these games not be worth anything?! The boxes are in great condition, the CDs are mostly unscratched. Manuals and other extra content is barely even bruised. I gathered my games again and left the store.
I got on the bus home and the memories were all coming back. Countless hours spent playing, both by myself and with friends. I remembered playing HOMM3 on Hot Seat with my dad, as well as the first time I connected to an online game. They might be worthless in cash, but its impossible for me to put a price tag on these memories.

Sad story that noone wanted heroes of might & magic but still im sure ull find something to do with it. Along with the rest.

The only console I owned was NES...
But I feel your pain, I know those games meant a lot to you. But sometimes it is the best to let go, and those memories will stay with you forever. I think "worthless youth" is a little too harsh, cheer up dude.

Memories are always worth more than things. Have a garage sale and keep your memories!

you could try selling them online through Ebay or something like that people will always buy bulk collections of games and stuff like that. If you really need to get rid of them, I would say keep them take all the discs and put them in one of those disc folders. and put all the cd keys on a piece of paper in the sleeve with the discs. saves space and you get to keep all those games :D

Have you tried selling them online? That might attract more interest.

Considering that the store needs to invest into buying, storing, advertising (shelf space) the game and then dealing with taxes after it's been sold, there's little reason to buy a used and old game. You'll have a lot more luck with Ebay or garage sales, where avid private collectors or nostalgics may actually be looking for just what you have to offer.
Also: Only 58 games?

When I was a kid, I had to grind so hard to buy a Nintendo / SNES game. I remember thinking so hard about whether the $30 for Final Fantasy 1 used was worth it. Same story years later for Star Fox. I also got my console about 2 years after they came out but it didn't even matter because it felt like there were so many amazing games. Renting games was incredible also. It meant I couldn't think about anything that weekend except playing that game. I would wake up at 5:00 AM so I could come down and play my rented game for the maximum amount of time.
I miss those days.
When I got to Nintendo 64, I started to have an income, which meaning the value of games dropped. It was easier to buy a game, play it a bit, and then put it down. I never had to ponder for weeks about whether it was worth it or not.
Now I buy an XBox game on a whim when I'm walking through Wal-Mart, play it for 3 hours, decide it's shit and never play it again. I have more XBox games than all my previous consoles combined, and I feel like most of them are shit. It's not the same. Nostalgia is strong

My advice to the OP is to keep them if you can. They're basically valueless and the value is the memories you get from seeing them. The only cost to keep them is space, so if you can afford it, keep them.

Even though a lot of it's is the nostalgia goggles, I still feel that the quality of games has gone down. Graphics over aesthetics and gameplay. Brown and fucking bloom. Space marine shooter 32.
Goddamn, now I've got to dig out the SNES.
EDIT: I agree with Chill, I'd keep them. I've got a ton of games laying around here and I'd never get a penny for any of them, so might as well keep them.

I know what Chill means, outside of some WoW for my RPG addiction(soon to be replaced with d3/swtor if they actually deliver instead of having just been hype games) and Strarcraft/Starcraft 2 I really am not interested at all in most games. I rent or buy them used, play them for maybe a week if its half way interesting then just go back to WoW/SC2.

Not everyone has played Homm3 but for those who have, the game's brought us many unforgettable moments of playing with family and friends :D

I just started playing my SNES about two months. Donkey Kong Country so good. Though if anyone wants to sell some of their SNES games, I'd take em off your hands. ^_^

When I was younger my family sold my NES at a garage sale  So many memories growing up playing that.

I've pretty much cycled through consoles and handhelds as they came. I held on to my gameboy classic and advance though, so many good memories and replayability

I could NEVER sell any of the games I've played through the years. The memories are simply too great. Heck I have an old desktop standing in my basement locker with win95 which I every now and then bring out so I can play some of my old games! Keep them if at all possible!

I'm a big softie when it gets to nostalgia, so I've kept all my boxes and old consoles. Sure they're collecting dust and taking up space, but to throw them away... would be a travesty. I sometimes glee like a kid when I open up my old D2 boxes and read the manuals.

I regularly play old ps1 and nintendo games on my laptop(with a emulator) while I'm taking the bus from my home town to where i go to college and back.Its a really grate way to kill time and re live the awesome memorys I had as a kid from these games.Last recent one i played through again was Breath of fire 4.
I'm really proud of my old game collection,every time theres party at my place,I blow the dust off the NES and PS1.The guys just go like"STFU no way you still have these.They work?",they leave everything alone(including the girls ) just to play a bit of super tank,galaxy,worms armaggedon and all of those old classics.It's really a joyful thing to watch people blowing each other up in worms 2D.

Good old dendy.. forget whatever happened to that box of fun. Probably sold when we moved to canada I think.
I played some dc / n64 / ps1 games on an emulator (ff7, ssb64, ikaruga etc) but it's not the same :<. Gotta get my hands on a nes/dendy or whatever it's called here somehow.
