As thread title says I'm unsure if my g-mail account got hacked.
I got some notifications from former co-workers and family and friends that they received some spam today from my e-mail address.
It came from my gmail. I changed the password already.
What I'm wondering is if I got hacked without downloading any program past month or two I think. Browsing only TL (and links on tl like liquipedia or community news links etc).
I'm on a Macbook Pro so afaik there is no anti-virus program to download.
What other way is there for my gmail account being compromised?
I figured that this place is probably the best way to ask since google support will take ages and TL ppl are generally smart.

Probably. Change the password again. Sometimes it has nothing to do with what you do or your computer, just someone get together information on an email address and a password. I have had this happen before, once you change it, it stops.

What are you on?
Maybe you visited some web page that exploited your browser (do you keep this up to date? >.>), that's about all I can think of if you claim you "haven't downloaded any programs in the past month or two" although I haven't heard of an exploit pack targeting browsers created for OSX yet.

That helped. It was some hacking from China lol.
And I did change my password last week. It's a custom I have from my school which always asks for changing password every 5 months or so. So I had the notification to change my school password last week so I also do that for my e-mail as well as my OS password.
That's why I found it so odd that I got hacked while my password recently got changed.

Since your on MAC, and the possibility of it being hacked is quite low.
So it's quite possible some other website where you registered was hacked and usernames/passwords got compromised, and you're using the same password for gmail ?

Are you using the same password for both your gmail and your school account? If so, maybe your school's servers have been compromised which led to the hacker knowing your gmail password. I'd suggest using different passwords for the two accounts.

Did you have your Email+password on GOM's site? That might be one place to get your email compromised if you haven't clicked any spam mail or suspicious sites.

The e-mail I used for GOM is not my gmail account. It did come to my attention but the passwords are not the same as well.
I think it might be through school server as my gmail and school e-mail did used to have the same password.

It happened to me once as well, where my friends were complaining about receiving emails from me that I never sent. However I changed my password immediately afterwards and this situation was never heard of again. Think you are worrying too much IMO

Please google before saying there is no antivirus to download for mac. There are tons. I should know, I'm 15 and go to a school where they have new macs all of which have antivirus protection systems installed. There is of course norton(meh). But heres a nice list to choose from:

I believe you should also calm down. This isn't an emergency!(and you should be calm during those too IMHO)

No, he's raising a valid point and we are not sure if the hack is due to a virus physically on his computer or is he just visting malicious websites which somehow extracted his password without infecting his computer.
There are plenty plenty ways of hijacking an email, some of them do not require the explicit knowledge of one's password. The only way I know of if hijacking a login session but I feel gmail should be fairly resilient to those. I'd use a more secure browser, as I do suspect this is a web attack, and make sure to log-out of all sensitive accounts before surfing a website you do not trust.
Here are a list of some common web attacks, I do not know much, and it is likely that whoever hacked your gmail account uses methods that are more sophisticated. But it is good read regardless:

3FFA just fyi if you come in with this attitute "please google", "I'm 15", and a link to yahoo answer, and telling people they should calm down, it makes you very unpleasant. If you want people to adopt your idea and point of views it is recommended that you do not sound off as "I know it better than you", that way people are more willing to listen.

Grant access to your account:
(Allow others to read and send mail on your behalf)
Make sure it's empty. I've read somewhere that they usually add their accounts there, so they can still send emails from your account even if you change your password.
That and changing your password should ensure they won't be able to send emails.
I would definitely notify Google Support tho, maybe they will help you find out exactly how it happened. I'm fairly certain they take Gmail hacking pretty seriously these days.

maybe it has to do with gomtv.net being attacked. Emails and user info was compromised.

Had this problem too... I spammed each time i like logged in to my email either from msn or just email... then hotmail locked my account... and i found out what caused all that and it was a botnet... so i just reformated and then contacted hotmail and they unlocked my account

Thanks guys and @3FFA I said that I didn't knew because I was told by a friend there wasn't any but now I know he didn't know for sure (tells me that I should just look things up to be sure just in case).
Since I know there is an anti-virus I've downloaded the iAntiVirus program so thanks for the tip.

The only sites I browse on my mac is through TL / apple dev (for developing apps). Anything else is visited through my phone browser. So maybe it's through there?
I've already changed my password (2nd time for all sites/accounts) in a week. Nothing has happened yet but just to be safe I changed them all (which isn't much since it's only half a dozen sites).

This is so weird, I read this topic last night and found out one of my e-mail accounts has been compromised today. It got locked down on the 14th (it is an old account I barely use for anything).
It seems so bizarre because I don't think I have any viruses, and I use many many e-mail accounts with the same password... and the one that gets compromised recently I haven't touched in months.
How..? It barely had any contacts on it. Hotmail account btw
Edit: I've noticed a close friend of mine also had this happen to her hotmail account too. And we're not computer illiterate or anything. We've never clicked on links or downloads from our e-mail accounts. Is there some sort of hotmail exploit going around or something?
