EDIT: Sorry for beginning, but this isn't really about the latest HuK/EG announcement. ^-^ Please read through.

I think this has been a bit of a time for reflection. Now I think I can speak for most people in saying that the latest TL/EG/HuK announcement didn't really take us by surprise when the time finally came. We had this as a possibility days ago, and we all brag how we “called it.”

I will say I wasn't surprised by the announcement, I was surprised by my reaction. I was all but convinced that this would be the big news, and yet, at the same time, I was blown away. Now I could talk about how HuK is such an inspiration and the reason I play Protoss and all that (which is true), but that goes for a lot of people. What I will talk about is the realization that I love eSPORTS.

Big deal, right? Ask (almost) any TLer and they'll say they love eSPORTS, but how do you know just how much you really love it?. It took a day like today to remind me. I broke my F5 key just like everyone else this morning, and when HuK's farewell article arrived, I had trouble getting all of the way through it (especially HuK's goodbyes to each player). I couldn't believe I was getting emotional over something as silly as video games. “What's wrong with me?” I thought.

This was my reflection: Over the last 7-8 years of my life, I have followed professional gaming. I grew such a respect and passion for eSPORTS, and it's become a big part of me ( more than I knew). Lately however, I've been rather passive towards it. Nothing was really sparking my interest these past weeks, and with a lot going on in my life I kind of silently excepted I wouldn't be following as much of the scene with so much going on, and maybe I'll be “growing out of it” soon.

Then, today, out of nowhere I shed a tear over a freakin' player transaction. Is it a little embarrassing? Sure, but I'm not afraid to tell you guys, even brag, that I really do still have this great passion for this silly game. Today was special in that I was reminded that I couldn't live without this awesome phenomenon we call eSPORTS, that I love it as much as I ever have, and that I hope to be a part of it for the rest of it's/my existence.

I and many others have an incredible emotionality towards gaming, even if we need to be reminded sometimes. I'm tired, I'm sick, and maybe this post doesn't sound like it does in my head. I just want everyone to never lose the passion, never grow apathetic towards something we are so lucky to have. Enjoy eSPORTS and spread the passion.

I know there is a lot going on so I won't hold you up much longer. Just let this be a friendly reminder that sometimes, we need to sit back and reflect on what we have in life. Which, in this case, is a bunch of people getting together for something that really touches our heart, competitive gaming. I'll leave you with a perfect quote by someone that I think embodies my message pretty well.

"There is nothing cooler than being proud of the things you love." - Sean “Day[9]” Plott

So now you call it eSPORTS instead of ESPORTS?

Don't care either way. But the others called it eSPORTS too, so I wondered.

Btw, I don't care about e-sports itself

Yeah he was on of the big reasons I recently switched from Zerg to Protoss. I actually got caught up in the countdown as well and made a blog posting the facts that I knew to be true at the time.
http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=255404

People were talking about how this wouldn't be that big if it was just signing Huk, but I tend to think that it is a ton bigger than any of us could of imagined. Fallout for a couple years to come.

Anyway, back to Starcraft II as a community. I can't believe that topic got so many damn pages, it just goes to show how passionate people are about what goes on in the world of ESPORTS and Starcraft II more locally. We all care about what happens and that is a good thing. Good blog post and even better quote from Day[9]. I might have to go watch Daily #100 yet again.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one getting choked up reading HuK's goodbyes. :3

To your first point about people "calling it". I hate people who do that. They make like 5000 predictions and then when they finally get one right, "OMG OMG I CALLED THAT/ I TOLD YOU/ I SAID IT FIRST" and then proceed to link their post where they said it. It's so annoying, like seriously go predict the lottery with your "newfound powers."

I agree with you, but this is kind of a small point, I hope you read the whole post. ^-^

I know, right? My bro was next to me, "luckily" I have an eye infection so I could pass it off as that.

You are not the only one sheding tears here, I can assure you. (also need to hide them away from my husband, he'd totally not understand why...) Although I've never had the luck to speak with any of the Liquid guys, I've always seen them as gentlemen & truly inspirational, when it comes to SC2. Losing HuK is just blow for most of us, he's been part of Liquid and I personally just can't imagine him going elsewhere.

As a parent & adult, I do understand that he simply made this choice, so he can truly make living out of SC2, so he doesn't have to worry about every-day needs like regular job or making money any other way than just doing what he loves - StarCraft 2.

I do wish HuK the best of luck, but I'm not denying that I'm truly sad because of this whole thing.

Also, thank you for that awesome Day[9] quote, it reassured me that following my heart in what I love is the only way as to how to do & feel about things.

You summed up exactly how I feel with this post OP. I could not have worded it better myself.
