OK. Sometimes I am replying to a thread, writing out my reply in the quick response box. Recently though, my posting numbers have dropped off quite a bit. Not many of you may have noticed (mostly because i don't post a lot anyways), but instead of posting 50+ times per week, I have been posting closer to 20.This is not because I am losing interest in Team Liquid, Starcraft, or the internet in general. No, this is because I am using my self control when I post.
I will use what I was posting about 10 mins ago as an example. I was posting a reply on the LoL general discussion thread (Here) about how my RL friend refuses to 1v1 be. I was going to ask ways to convince him to play against me even though his number is higher than mine (thats all it is), but then I thought to myself.
What the fuck am i posting this for?
I discarded the post and continued to browse TL and the other sections.
I have learned mostly from experience and seeing closed threads what is ok and what is not ok to say. I know not to post to bitch/complain about something i find unfair, and I know not to post things that are completely irrelevant to the topic. This is probably why my post quality has (mostly) improved over the past 750ish posts.
..I just had one of those moments, thinking to myself why am i posting this? I probably shouldn't post this, but after thinking for a few more seconds, I want people to see it is possible to improve your posting by simply asking yourself "Why am i posting this?". If you can't think of a good answer to that question, discard and move on.

Most of posts are agreeing with what the OP is, for example, I agree with your post. What do I say?

Would you be offended if I found this post ironic?
It's somewhat like having an entire chocolate and delicious cake because you managed to go a whole day without sweets.
"I don't need to post silly topics, so I'll make a topic about it (yes this is a blog, but same idea and I found it funny, not trying to be a dick)."
|
I'm on the same regimen as you, I got banned too much for just sort of vomiting my thoughts onto a page. I don't do this in e-mails, reports or presentations, but on a forum setting it's tough to avoid, especially when confronted with the idiotic internet massed who don't restrain themselves.
It's tough to stick to though.
Another thing I sometimes have to resort to in order to abide my self-imposed restriction is sometimes not going back to a thread that I've posted in to read the replies (especially in a thread where I've said something that isn't standard for that topic). It deprives me of the chance to respond to a counter-argument, but I shouldn't have to if I've followed my first restriction.

Not at all, i was considering not posting this in the first place. I probably decided to go through with posting it because I haven't blogged in a while. (even though I am going to do a vacation blog in like 5 days)

The real heroes are the ones who read this blog, type up a response, and then decide not to post it.
...Not after reading my post though, that would be kind of defeating the purpose lol.
Also what Sprungjeezy wrote was 100% accurate.

I have typed out a response to quite a number of threads, and I'd say about half the time after I finish I get rid of it because either A. It's absolutely worthless or B. It makes me sound like a dick

I started writing a post and then deleted it because it wasn't helpful and/or interesting so I'm posting this instead

I only post on these conditions:
1) My thought is original and shows real meaning. Soooooooooo many people repeat others thoughts.
2) I'm not insulting someone elses idea. At least give a considerable explanation as to why (uhhh they call this constructive feedback?)
3) Last but most importantly, I can't show weakness. Whatever I post, it's gotta be pretty damn foolproof for myself, worst thing is being on the wrong channel.
This more applies to strategy forum sections (BW&SC2). LR threads I just post whatever I feel like eg: my predictions, MINE DAEBAK!!! etc...

I shamelessly bring nothing to the table in 35% of my posts. I hit post to see how many its at.
Posts made in the last week 608 That's 212.8 (estimated) useless posts. The funny thing is, I agree with you. I/You/They really don't need to say "I agree with the OP" 300 times.
But it's rarely that cut and dry. What if I'm not agreeing with the OP but a question/statement half way down the front page? The 30th page? What if half the thread has said the same thing? A quarter of the thread?
There are many lines to draw in personal discretion and I'll say this for sure. I commend your restraint. I do not have that quality.

Can't count how many times I've typed up a post and just deleted it in the post box. Sometimes people are stupid to the point you just make yourself look dumb by even trying to engage in dialogue with them.
Sometimes I still post it though, so I've accumulated a few warnings

Yeah I agree with you, I type maybe a few sentences or a paragraph then end up just discarding the message because I don't want to get in a lose-lose argument with a couple thickheads, especially in the General Forum. Probably saved me a lot of trouble.
