Hi TL,
I was recently watching desrow's stream, and he was basically saying he was charging $15/h for power leveling an account. What's power leveling? As I understand it, its basically laddering on someone's account so they rank higher. Is this legal considering Blizzard's stance on people portrait farming and such? Should this be endorsed on TLnet?
I mean, i love watching desrow, but charging a fee for doing something that to me seems shady doesn't make me feel comfortable.

|
Its not like its actually hurting anyone except the player who pays. Now that guy can lose $15/h and get roflstomped by people much better then him when he starts laddering.
|
Im pretty sure just sharing an account is not allowed so this would probally not be allowed either. It hink you got the idea of power leveling would be just playing on someones accoun and laddering. It makes no sense to me as you would just lose when you play on it yourself anyways because your not good enough to play at the level he gets you at.
|
these kind of things are the posts you'd find on many of the hacker/shady forums (I only know cause I went searching for cheaper CDkeys for EU, which honestly the amount of scams happening its better to just buy from blizz) - but there are so many "I'll bring your account to masters for $100" posts, its ridiculous that people actually make money off it.
Of course its not legal by blizzard, ala the whole TLO/Huk fiasco. But newbs will pay anything to get that masters icon on their account I guess.
edit: im surprised someone like desrow, who im assuming wants to be taken seriously as a progamer? would offer a service like this publicly.. Guess it really is all about the money for him.
|
I didn't think I could lose anymore respect for desrow but I guess I can.
What the fuck is he thinking?
|
im looking to get masters so my friends will be impressed! where is descrow when you need him?

It's not allowed under Blizzard's ToS as far as I know. If I remember correctly (please correct me if I don't) this came up a while ago when Select offered to do something similar, but removed his thread when he found out it wasn't permitted.
Edit: heres the thread http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=217746
Select's response
I noticed it is against the rule >< I erased my leveling page

Exactly this. The more I think about it, the lamer it gets :/

Charging an hourly fee seems kinda retarded, what if he just decides to fuck around for 2 hours, it'd make more sense to charge based on what rank the account is currently in and how many games are played on that account.
I highly doubt this is legal because, as someone mentioned, account sharing is illegal. Though I don't know if Blizzard is going to actively stop this, it's probably not high on their priority list of things they need to handle. Of course I could be wrong, if they have enough time to send out personal letters to remind everyone, in case anyone forgot, that separating accounts by server really sucks and not let anyone practice with their region locked acounnt, they have enough time to crack down on this.

Do you have any proof? Hopefully he reads this and immediately stops/

The shitty part is that it'd probably take Desrow 40+ hours to finally win enough games to level up your account. You get what you pay for.

From my understanding what you do on your stream is your own business but TL can choose not to support it and what not. I know in the past they ban known cheaters and hackers but this isnt cheating but it is against the terms of service so i dont know. Maybe a mod could give some clarfication.

This is definitely NOT legal, but Blizzard is too busy bugging people like HuK and TLO anyway, so desrow is fine for the moment.
|
LOL Everytime I find a new thread about Desrow it is always some negative stuff he is doing, no offense but I find it really funny too that TL features a player with this sort of behavior, basically all the extra revenue he is making is because he is a featured stream on TL, in other words if he wasn't featured he wouldn't have as many viewers and therefor wouldn't be able to rip off as many people.
So sad that not long ago I read the thread about him posting all that drama between Reign and Pheonix on reddit, and now this lol.
Money is the root of all evil.

What an easy freaking way to make money. A shameful way as well.

Point taken, its not fair for those people to lose their points.
still seems so foolish for the buyer though :p Also, why would someone watch a stream of a master crushing low level players?

A lot of people have been known to play and smurf on accounts, it seems like you're taking incredible offense to this for no reason. It really doesn't matter that much to me if I lose 1 match due to playing a pro. Following the same logic, then aren't we doing the same thing when a pro buys a smurf and streams his placements, as he is stealing the ladder points of lower leagues as well?

I personally don't care about what he does on his stream, if some idiot wants to throw his money away to get stomped on ladder at a later date, let him. Having said that, you may want to be careful in future Desrow as it's against the Battle.net Terms of Service, as found here: http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/company/about/termsofuse.html
You agree that you will not, under any circumstances: 2.2 exploit the Service, a Game or any part thereof for any commercial purpose, including without limitation (a) use at a cyber cafe, computer gaming center or any other commercial establishment without the express written consent of Blizzard; (b) to communicate or facilitate any commercial advertisement or solicitation; (c) for gathering in-game currency, items or resources for sale outside the Game without Blizzard’s authorization; (d) selling or trading Game characters or accounts for the Service and/or a Game; or (e) performing in-game services in exchange for payment outside the Game, e.g., power-leveling;

desrow just makes himself look more and more like an idiot every single day, cant believe anyone would even pay that guy money.

Can't say I'm surprised. I hope TL takes his "featured" status away. A lot of non-featured streams are more deserving imo.

However, TL will unfeature or disable your stream if you are caught cheating, restreaming events, or acting illegally. In this case, Desrow will be unfeatured if he continues to stream 'powerleveling'.

So Blizzard sends a cease and desist call to HuK for playing on TLO's account because his MMR is broken while desrow intentionally violates the ToS for profit?
Fun.
desrow I wish you'd just go back to yelling at people you were coaching. That had much more entertainment value than this -_- please don't help people into masters for them. stick with teaching please.

Well since you can't know is he or is he not playing on another account powerleveling some bronze player, there is not much you can do about it. But still its better this way that he can't stream it atleast.

w/e you do don't unfeature desrow. He is consistently on, way more then other featured streamers and provides good entertainment to those who watch. If being featured requires consistent steaming and high level play...desrow has filled those more so then most. A lot of people do things which violate the ToS everyday.

Fun. HuK and TLO wouldn't get warnings either if one of them took money from the other. Hirosue got unfeatured without a warning when he let scan stream on his account iirc. I thought that TL is sensitive about this kind of issues and would unfeature desrow as well.

I think it's going on someones account and getting them to high Masters/GM for a fee. Pretty much the same as smurfing, for a fee.
|
It is not nearly the same as smurfing lol. But desrow aint the first that has done this thing, so not all blame should be on him=)
|
He prefers to play people of lower skill than himself. He has a 50% win rate in the master/gm leagues so enjoys going on gold/plat peoples accounts who pay him to four gate 15 low skilled players per hour. And hey guess what, it buys him half of his lunch. Win win for him.

Well I remember Select offering something like this a while back and immediately withdrawing the offer because of some reason- I want to say legal issues but I'm not sure (maybe the fact it was a gray area?). However I really don't think that this is the right way to go. Might as well buy a masters account to put as a shiny sticker onto your e-ego, but thats just me.
