So you want to watch some anime, but the standard shit, aka highschool moeblob crap, turn you off (aka me) because you want something serious?

You like to watch a lot of military history stuff on the Discovery Channel, or History Channel?

Interested in high tech weapons and gadgets?

Has a huge hard-on for guns, tanks, and planes?

Since Blasty and Sent wrote the yuri and mecha guide, I shall write a guide for the people who answered yes on most of the questions above.

Disclaimer: I won't be writing a summary for all the anime that fits in this category, just some that you must watch if you are into this type of stuff, and these are my favorites.

1. Gunsmith Cats

Rally Vincent and May Hopkins are bounty hunters that operate in Chicago, and in their downtime they run the titular "Gunsmith Cats" gun shop. When an ATF stumbles into their little shop, Rally and May set out on an fast paced adventure to uncover a government scandal and it has crazy Russian bitches!

Don't let the age of the series fool you, the animation and attention to detail is amazing. The Japanese Production team went to Chicago to take photos and videos so they could get every place right. They also rented a Shelby Mustang, the car Rally drives, and recorded every sound that it makes. The detail that went in to animating the firearms used in the show is just phenomenal, since the production team recorded every gun when fired inside and outside and not to mention the animation of the guns is 100% correct. This show is /k/ (4chan's weapons board) and TFR's (The Firing Range, Something Awful's weapons forum) wet dream.

Gunsmith Cats is one of the first anime series that got licensed in North America, and it really changed what a lot of people thought about anime. It changed a lot of people's view on anime, because at the time everyone thought anime is just tentacles or giant robots. Gunsmith Cats brought something new into the crowd in North America and everybody loved it. A personal note I would like to add is, the dub for this show is really well done, even the Japanese director and studio that did the animation liked it. For a show set in Chicago, I watched the show in dubbed form, but the choice is up to you.

2. Black Lagoon

Here is the plot: Americans, Chinese, Russians, Nazis, Neo Nazis, Cartels, South American super maids, Triad, Islamic terrorists, slutty Thais, stoned Irish, Romanian psychopaths, Italians, Indian counterfeiters, dozens of sadistic mercenaries, Texas cowboys, CIA, Yakuza and Nuns, all trying to kill each other.

This one has the feel of a 90s action/cop movie. The action scenes are really over the top, yet they don't feel dumb, which is something I think takes a lot of skills to do. Surprisingly, the show does pay lot of details to the weapons and firearms used despite the over the top-ness. The show also does an excellent job creating characters you actually give a shit about, and leaves plenty of room for glorious action scenes. I mean the show's most famous scene is a boat jumping up in the air, and torpedoing a fucking helicopter.

Personal note: The dub for this is pretty much liked by everyone in the anime community, except for a few weaboos and trolls. The Japanese track is no means bad, it's just there is a lot of Engrish which takes you out of the experience. The extra profanity used in the English track really adds to the atmosphere, and Shen Hua sounds hilarious. Again the choice is up to you, both tracks are equally good and enjoyable.

3. Ghost in the Shell

In the future, cyberization of humans is a common practice. Motoko Kusanagi of Public Security Section 9 and her team struggles to keep the world safe. Also, at least in the movie, when she uses optical camouflage, she goes naked (boobies!)

Anyways, the show isn't just about boobies, as the show is an excellent mix of action and suspense. The sci-fi aspects of this show is amazing as well, and it even has a huge philosophical back message to it. In a way, this show could be described as a "reverse Matrix", I won't say anymore because I think that would be just spoiling it.

There are 4 main things you have to watch if you decide to pick up this franchise. The first movie, the 2nd movie named Innocence, and the two TV series. There are also compilation movies as well. I would like to add that the dub for everything in this franchise is really well done and pretty much everyone likes it too, so take your pick on which audio track you want to use.

I think this is all I want to fit, as I want to keep the length of the blog short. Here is an useful picture for reference:

Right click on it and select view image, the image is big.

I wouldn't really consider this a guide, but rather your recommendations. Full Metal Panic had a good bit of gun action as well.

Phantom is like everything Bee Train makes, it starts out awesome, but fails at the middle, then it tries to salvage it at the end. I want to like the girls with guns stuff Bee Train made, but I found it hard.

Where is the swarm of ADT people?! ;D

And DUUUUDE you were supposed to call it a guide and put [G] in the name in keeping with the format (because we one day will have guides for almost all genres!!)!!

e.g. G3CKO's Guide to Gun Animes (or something)

I'll have to check out the Black Lagoon dub. If it's as good as you say it is, I'm all for it. The Japanese Engrish was so bad lol.

Dutch is actually voiced by an African American actor by the way. So he sounds naturally awesome.

Z3kk's Guide to Writing Anime Guides. This is more of a mini guide but it's a good start if you ever expand it. Ghost in the Shell is still on my to watch list. For some reason I have never gotten around to watching it but maybe now I will.

It's in the last picture, I'm just too lazy to write about it. Also 2nd season is wtf quality, so pretend it didn't exist.

I like how you used the term moeblob crap and then recommended strike witches lol.

The little blurb calling the girls in strike witches "teenage" was even funnier though.

Tbh, I wouldn't recommend it as an action anime since there wasn't much shooting involve. It's more drama-relationship in a weird way.

Also, I just finished the entire Ghost in the Shell series (plus the two movies) last week. Really good series but heavy dialogue in some of them.

I defend my decision because:

Surprisingly it's a decent show, the historical details are very well researched. The amount of WWII figures and historical moments are really accurate. The girls are based on real life WWII ace pilots. For a history nerd, that show has it's appeal, despite the girls don't wear pants.

If you can overlook that, the show is hilariously good (from a history point of view).
Also /k/ made that chart, not me. Go bitch on 4chan.
