What Should be Done?

This entire argument and all of these threads are making my head hurt. There are people on both sides, see things that happened and the facts quite differently. I am tired of everyone arguing about it. We are overshadowing the amazing achievement by QXC last night with these arguments, so let's stop them and look forward towards fallout. I have a question though for everyone about this entire thing and where things should go in the future:

For people that think that EG did wrong: What do you want them to do about it now? What can they do to remedy the situation to you?

For people that think that EG did nothing wrong: What do you think they should do for the community, if anything, to appease the people that are against them?

What about the question about community driven journalism that AG posed. Should there be some kind of standard or should those standards remain in the hands of the community?

Also, is there a need for some kind of player's union or regulating body like in other sports that will protect teams and players from situations of "preying" or anything like that?

Finally,

For people on either side, do you think that EG players should say or do something? Have you gained/lost respect for those players, and if so, what would you like them to do about it?

This all being said, I want to hear what people think in the way of fallout. I am tired of what one thinks happened, but more interested in what should be done about it all. Go ahead and reply, let us know, but please, answer the questions, state your side, but please try not to argue with one another. It is tiring.
If you have some other questions that pertain to looking forward from this event, post them and I may add them into the main set. Thanks!

P.S. QXC, you are the man. =)

They should do nothing except support Puma

This fickle community will get over it in a week and find some new witch to hunt and cry about, they have been doing it non-stop for a few months now.

I missed the comments about community driven journalism from AG, what was he talking about?

If it was the translation, then it's sort of ridiculous to call out one of TL's greatest contributors (Milkis) instead of actually defending your position on the issue. It's an attempt to make EG look like the victim in the most ridiculous way possible. Koreans are mad at them, and TSL's coach is disappointed. Write up a quick apology to the coach for not contacting him and state that they were respecting Puma's wishes (that he wanted to talk to his coach, implying that EG wouldn't have to).

EDIT: Also Pumagate is a ridiculous name, please don't use it T_T

Yeah, you are right overall. I know this in my heart. I wish I was better at ignoring these things in the forums. I am great at in IRL, but when it comes to here, I am constantly wondering people's opinions.

I just hope that everything works out for Puma, EG, TSL, Coach Lee, and everyone else for the best.

It is just like some kind of cultural train wreck. It is so hard to look away.

EG is a private organisation and Puma was a free agent. They don't owe anyone anything.

Also has everyone forgotten when FXO was apparently "killing esports" by signing players from other teams all over the place to build their roster?

I can see AG's point, but I don't agree with it. In fact, kudos to him because it's a clever point to make from EG's position to detract attention from the actual issue.

Milkis is generous enough to translate the article into English and the response is that he should wait until the EG PR cogs turn and generate a public statement.

If EG wants to make a point earlier than when they did, post it in the thread and it can be added to the OP, or tweeted or use one of the other many mechanisms that exist to communicate on the internet. Translators that are adding value to the community do not need to get your opinion, or approval, before translating and posting articles. *To be said in AG's ESPORTS lecture tone* This is not how the "international [Starcraft] community works".

Here's my take on this whole situation...

At the end of the day, e-sports is a growing, thriving, business.

If TSL didn't have their players under contract, then they made a huge business mistake. EG contracting Puma, while arguably discourteous, was a great business decision.

I was talking to iNcontroL a few days ago, before I (or anyone) knew anything about this Puma deal.

He said EG is in the business of finding and signing superstars. People like Jwong. Idra. Incontrol himself, is a great example.

Puma fits that bill beautifully. Any smart business owner given the same situation and the means would do the exact same thing.

Think of it like a more traditional sport.

Lebron James' contract just ended. He wants to sign a new one with your team.

Do you
A.) Sign his ass
or B.) Talk to his last manager/coach, and give them a chance to come up with a sweeter deal?

You fucking sign him. All day every day. EG should be applauded for doing the smart thing.

Puma should be applauded for getting a great deal. (presumably)

And TSL, if anything, is in the wrong for not taking better care of one of their superstars.

For those that don't understand what all the fuss is about, it is not WHAT EG did, but HOW they did it. I'm not seeing how this is so hard for people to understand. There isn't anything to argue about.

To answer your first question, when you do or say something that you did not mean to offend someone (because EG pretty much offended the bulk of the Korean SC2 community) then what do you do? You say "sorry."

Korean culture should apologize to EG for hurting them and then all the coaches and players from the teams in Korea needs to go to a seminar on peer pressure and the importance of contracts. And maybe one on western business culture.

Also, EG should sign a few more loosely tied Korean pros before they get them under contract.

Also, EG should probably apologize to Milkis OR TL/Tyler (depending on which stance they want to officially take) for being wrong and hypocritical.

Also, djWheat should apologize to Milkis for conducting a bad interview on SotG (cutting him off too often), whether intentional or not.

Also, mouzsports needs to apologize for not sending anyone to Anaheim.
