So ive decided not to play StarCraft anymore, ill still watch events and read TL.net because its so much fun to watch great games etc but i feel i really dont have the time or motivation to continue playing.
SC has been a big part of my life for the past 10 years but i just feel like it is time to stop and focus on RL
glhf everyone :b

glgl which race do you play?

Honestly that's a good choice. At the moment, my only connection to eSports is watching Brood War Pro League (but not long TvT's and such lol :D ) and (rarely) reading forum posts, such as blogs on TL.
And it's not a time shortage thing, its a conscious choice to live my life sort-off away from "this" world, the world where everyone is pissed off that they got cheesed in a game, rather than being pissed off that they have 3 boxes of pizzas lying on the floor while they read this post! (Sorry guys, I used to be that way so don't hate me for projecting )
And I never felt better.
...
... anyway, good luck, and let the discipline you learned in eSports carry on in your real life

Everything in moderation dude. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

eh maybe it does
anyway i'm in the same boat, and i feel good about it. carpal tunnel made the decision is easier, as did sc2 (i don't have the same feeling for it that i did for bw) but in the end it's just re-prioritizing

im having carpal tunnel in both hands + i get very stressed out when playing lately, which is something that didnt use to happen. Chronic stress is not very pleasent, and i really dont feel like playing half-assed so id rather just quit and focus on something else (working out, socializing, getting a nice job etc)

I'm in a phase like that right now as well but I still play vs the AI when I feel the itch just as I do still with BW. Sometimes the game brings too much stress and takes away to much time as it did with you, with me it also brought wasted money dumping it into computers, multiple accounts, and having a better internet connection that I recently put down to a lower cheapo DSL one. I totally feel you on this and I don't really even watch much anymore but I'm still a total forum addict lol. Good luck to you man, I hit the high diamond level and felt like it was as far as I could go while having fun seems like you kind of got to a similar place with the game/life. You should still play vs AI though that can really help with the withdrawal of this addictive game.

That doesn't apply to everybody. Some people just want to be as good as they can and won't settle for moderate playing. Usually the moderate players tend to be the worse ones as well because obviously they play less. I am very much like this with anything I pursue. Either I want to do a really good job or I won't bother at all. I don't want to be average at a bunch of things, I'd rather be really good as a select couple. I know tons of people with this mentality and it applies to SC as well.

You'll come crawling back.
Don't give up totally, but put it on hiatus until you have a ton of free time and such. E-sports are too awesome to just drop totally.
|
I used to put everything into my pursuits. One time I tried to do something that was too hard for me to do, but since I always put everything into it, I kept putting all my effort and will into it. It didn't end well.
This kind of mentality will f"ck up your life, so I recommend that you try your best, but don't put everything into it.

Interesting decision, actually this initiated a thought process in me. I mean, how far can i get without losing fun in this game?
Right now i am about gold/low plat level and i beat opponents without conentrating too much. But i imagine i will get stressed out when i reach higher leagues. When i really need to focus hard and every half second canbe decisive for the game.
Hm, don't know...
