Coming out of a rut?

So I've been playing about 4 hours a day for the past month and ya know I might have hit a wall. Laddering to me is now like a chore. The only way I can ladder now is to go ahead and play some custom games or kick the crap out of the campaign. So I was wondering how do you guys get out of a rut and any tips to avoid this crap.

Sounds like you don't enjoy the game any more.

Easy solution: don't play it anymore.
There are so many awesome hobbies out there, it's a waste of time to do something you don't enjoy.

This happened to me alot when i was hardcore on BW.

Take a break for a couple days then when you get back you should enjoy the game again! Best of luck to you man

Tollhouse I've been going in and out of that rut for a while now. I still haven't found the perfect way to get out of it. It really depends on the person too. The game will be much better for players who are able to withstand tilt, and it is a total nightmare for those that are vulnerable to it or even just wary of it.

Lately to get out of it a "rut" I've been going over ALL my losses in replays, no matter how painful they are to watch. It's actually quite a productive thing to do. If you dedicate an hour or so to analyzing you replays it's a nice stress reliever and learn a lot from it.

I think I'm going to have to reach out sometime to players and have a practice group where we do the most nerve wracking tactics to each other so that we'll conditioned enough to not fall into the rut no matter how rough the games are. If you understand what your opponent will throw at you, and have practiced enough times against it specifically, I believe that ladder will feel much less of a chore.

Either play UMS (StarJeweled;)), FFA or watch a VOD or something. Always makes me want to ladder again.

I think it depends whether you are winning or losing. If you don't feel like playing because you are losing often, I would take a break, examine replays, try to come with different strategies, etc. If you are winning but still don't feel like playing, maybe it's time to find another hobby. If it's not fun when everything's going well, it might not ever be fun again.

So...you've been laddering like it's a part-time job, and then complaining because it feels like a job. If the game isn't fun, then don't play it! In the very least everyone needs a break. Take one.

I will take most of these suggestions as with the replay viewing and just custom gaming it up for the fun of it. The giving up however wont happen even though i complain that this game has gotten a bit over used for me I still love what this game is. So Im just guna take my sweet ass time and watch some day9 and play star battle i think.

Yeah I think you need to find another hobby to balance out your time, otherwise things like this tend to happen

Read a few books, watch a season of some series you like from tv, play some other games with friends.
