Only recently have I gotten into esports (about 3-4 months ago), and absorbed myself with it, I watched it religiously, I grew attached to it. I watched a pros stream, looked into coaching, and signed up for tournaments. I wanted to be a part of it. I never knew this existed before I came here. I never even thought about it. Never would I have ever guessed South Korea to be the 'epitome' per say of esports. Never.
But it's changed my life.
When I wake up in the morning, I think to myself - who's streaming? When I wake up in the morning I look for threads about MLG, Anaheim or something of the sort. I want to look at GSL results. I have gotten Steelseries gear solely to support one of my favorite teams - Evil Geniuses.
I no longer see Starcraft as a game - I see it as competition, I see it as a sport, and that's changed my perspective and feelings in so many ways.
I've been watching esports explode, and it's brought tears to my eyes. When FXO went to Korea I got nerd chills all over, and a tear came to my eye when I was watching the GSL, I was proud to be a 'foreigner' I was proud to be a part of something as great as this. Listening to President DJWheat's speach about FXO made me shake and just feel awesome. Watching Hot_Bid's video of pro's who lost on his youtube made me emotionally respond, listening to 'When I'm Grandmaster' by Temp0 while watching the video made me smile and get nerd chills.
I'm a different person in a way - more developed - because of esports -- and I'm damn proud of that. I am proud of how much this has grown, and I'm proud that I'm a part of it, and all of you should be as well. I would have never guessed a year ago how much I'd be into this thing called 'esports' I always thought progaming wasn't big - I always thought it was lesser or insignificant.
Never have I been more wrong.
Never, never do I think something like this has actually made a significant impact on my life, but now it is a part of my life, it's intertwined with my schedule, I change things on my calendar around so I can watch tournaments, it's a marvelous thing.
I would like to dedicate this blog to not only esports but to Teamliquid - for allowing me to have this experience - for allowing me to be happy and be sad when I would otherwise not care - to make me want to post this - to make me a part of something great. Thank you Teamliquid, just for being awesome. Also, thank everyone who runs tournaments even the small ones that don't get enough attention, thank them all!
Feel free to post and not only give thanks to Teamliquid and their kickass moderation but to post your own story - should you have one.
Thanks tons for reading!
