I did my placement matches back in August 2010. Got into bronze. Then I saw the Day[9] Daily "Probes and Pylons", and I improved pretty much constantly and finally got into diamond in December by out-pyloning and out-probeing (supply and scv actually) opponents. That's about 7 months ago. Still, here I am even though I play a decent amount of games each week.

I've been top diamond ever since masters league was announced. Sometimes top 10 in EU, currently top 100. Sometimes my rating goes down when I'm on a tilt, but then on the next day, after I install SC2 again (yes I do rage uninstalling a lot), the rating goes up again. But never into masters.
I was trying to get masters before season 2 started, so this shameful memory of being only diamond wouldn't stay in my profile forever. Now season 3 is about to start, and I'm in the same situation.
Does season 3 start next week? I still have time. Never give up, never surrender!

don't see what the problem is, if you aren't advancing, you're not good enough.
advancing or not is not based on your MMR or even your rank in your league.
it's about how consistently you win
if you start winning against master league players you advance, so unless you're winning all your games but still not advancing i don't see the problem.

It's the getting better. I have read a lot of stuff, watched a lot of streams and played a lot. I know if I decided to get better, I would use all my free time to playing ladder, playing customs and analyzing my games, but I've been mostly just mass laddering to avoid watching the replays of my own failure. I'm a casual gamer.
For the last few days I've been beating 1200-1300 masters, so the promotion could be close. I just have to stay calm and somehow not tilt even once before the season ends, and I'll get promoted soon! (That's what I've been saying to myself for the last 4 months.)
Also I just hit 1640 points, which would make me number 10 in EU atm based on sc2ranks.com. Hurray \o/
