I love survivor, still watching it regularly.
I can't stand Russell though. I was really happy to see that people knocked him off right away because he is a complete and utter loser. I couldn't handle all the weak people who sucked up to him in previous seasons out of fear so it was really nice to see that he got voted off first. He was entertaining somewhat to watch at least though, but a 3rd season with him was already a bit too much (thankfully he didn't last very long).
I really wanted Matt to win in this one just because it would have been hilarious to see somebody win after being voted out twice.

I dont agree. Russell chooses the people with which to play with, not the other way around. I dont see why he is a complete and utter loser. His qualities as a person dont matter in the game. Too bad people are so emotional and dont understand the way this game is played.
Matt was nice dude, but too stupid.

i vowed to never watch this show again after all the bullshit they pull with the "OMG DRAMA" and the "TWISTS LOL!!" that ruin the pristine, amazing game that this is.
and then i was convinced to watch it again with a "trust me, you want to see THIS season."
it was the first season with hantz. i was thrilled.
hantz is the greatest player to ever play the game. period. pure and simple.
but the jury was a bunch of fucking crybabies who could not vote with their heads up their asses for the player who actually OUTWITTED, OUTLASTED, AND OUTPLAYED. so he lost... and some no-name dumbfuck who did absolutely nothing won the game.
what this does is create a metagame shift, of course... players will know that the player who makes moves wont win at the end, so it incentivizes everyone to do fucking nothing all game. thats not survivor. the format is dead because of this baby shit.
then, hantz #2. hantz #2 loses again to the exact same retardation in the end. no, sandra, you aren't the greatest player ever, you're just a dumb cunt. you "won" because hantz "lost." you would think that the ALL STARS, of all juries, would reward skilled play and not be butthurt for their feelings being betrayed. i loved hagrid in pearl, i really did. i loved hagrid in his 2nd game too, i really did. but hagrid in #3 was horrible. shut the fuck up about honesty and shit: you're HAGRID, the guy who stole everybody's shoes on day 1 of pearl.
so, of course, hantz #3 gets treated to the absolute DUMBEST play in the history of survivor, ever: a tribe pre-merge blowing immunity to suicide a member. this has never, ever, ever, ever, ever worked, ever, and it's just easily defeated on a logical and mathematical level. but they literally had to suicide to get rid of hantz.
i will never watch this show again.

I enjoy rewatching older seasons; Australian Outback, Africa, Cook Islands and Fiji are my favourites.
I didn't really like Russell; something about his attitude rubbed me the wrong way.

@ annul - absolutely lol. If Russell was to play SC2, there will be like epic metagame shifts every day. It was so funny watching his tribe gets destroyed one by one after they kicked him out. what a pussies.
I guess by Hagrid you mean Rupert (I had to google this lol). Never liked him, those million dollars he won should have gone to Rob imo.

if rob didnt fall in love on all-stars he would have 2 wins under his belt right now..
in marquesas (robs first season), he was screwed over by a tribe switch, where he was randomly thrown into a minority..
and in HvV (specifically the video you linked).. finding an idol + tyson's stupidity does not equal russel > rob..
Russel has played 3 times.. made the finale twice, where it was proven that he never was and never will be a threat to win this game.. and his 3rd season was an utter fail where he showed his complete lack of ability to adapt his game to his surroundings..
Rob has played 4 times, was screwed over by a twist once, an idol and an allies stupidity cost him once, and he totally dominated his other 2 season.. in all-stars he dominated everything, start to finish, and narrowly lost in the final 4-3 (which would have easily been avoided if he didnt find his wife in the game, still counts as a win imo).. and in redemption island, played a near perfect, if not perfect season..
To you people saying, crybaby jurors blah blah, Russel is #1 the game is flawed..
Open your eyes.. You can dominate the game and not be an asshole to everyone else on the island.. This is the flaw in Russel's game that prevents him from being anywhere near the top..
A perfect example is Rob in redemption island.. He was in charge, start to finish, dominated, decided who goes and when, made individual alliance with everyone on his tribe, and still managed to come off as a nice enough guy to give the win.. If not for Ralph being a dumbass (self proclaimed), would have been a clean sweep..
Claiming Russel is the greatest and the game is flawed is just a failure to acknowledge the social side of the game..
The rules are clearly stated.. You vote people off, the people you voted off determine the winner.. If Russel cant win by these rules, he is in no way the greatest player..
Would Russel be good if the people he voted off weren't the ones who determined the winner? Definitely, but that is a different game, not survivor.. Russel Hantz is NOT the greatest survivor..

I fucking love survivor. And russel is the greatest survivor ever. His first two runs were amazing. I don't think he could ever do well again though. The last season was probably the worst in a while for me. I can't connect with Rob at all. He seems like an OK dude. And his strategy to get votes is good. He isn't a floater, but hes still pretty boring to me.

Survivor is some of the very best shit on television, years ago i used to think it was utter shit, like most ignorants, but then i actually got through the shame then guilty pleasure, so i watched it and SAW THE TRUTH. well not really, but it's fucking awesome.
Russell is the most awesome player ever, but i think he overdid it even for him towards the end of 20. still, numero 1 in the hearts of fans, for season 19 at least.
but you can't take it from Rob, the dude played the best game ever played on the show last season, clearly number 1 player in my mind.
can't wait for the next season, i caught a glimpse of Eric that kid with the worse move in survivor history in the preview clip they did at the end of last season, and i think another of a chick i knew but i can't remember her name, should be interesting if those two are really coming back.
i do fear for the show though, it's getting old and the epic storylines are wearing thin, but then again, i've had this feeling several times in the past, then legendary shit happened like russell and heroes vs. villains, so long live Survivor

Rob is good, but come on... the other players last season were super retarded. Basicaly he had no real competition once Russell was kicked out.
I think it was very pathetic from Rob when in All Stars when he was almost crying and begged Lex to help him save Amber, and then fucked him up pretty badly and all he said "LOL its just a game", but when he thought that Coach has voted him out on HvV he called him "You are a little man" in front of everyone...

Can I ask, why people believe Russell is the greatest player?
From where I'm standing, his game, although very entertaining, has a huge hole in it.
To me, Russell is good at getting idols, forging alliances, and making plays, but he completely fails at understanding the game.
You go into the show knowing that if you make the final 3, you will have a hand in voting out your judges.
Bitter judge syndrome is a very real reality and something Russell never seems to take into account in his play.
He's too aggressive, rubs people the wrong way, and makes too many enemies.
Whereas Rob can charm, Russell is like a bulldog and that is not ever going to be a winning strategy.
The best players would probably be Sandra and Yul.
Sandra may be anonymous but her under the radar approach is a winning strategy.
And Yul, silly idol season or not, probably made the least mistakes of any winner I've seen.
Personally, my favorite player is Parvati.
Looks and entertainment; she has it in spades.
She and Rob are two players you can see adapt from game to game, because truthfully, she was really naive in her 1st season.

To try to add something else:
Redemption Island is real tough one to judge.
Not only did Russell's and Rob's reputation preceded them; their tribes had very different and distinct personalities.
There's no doubt Rob got the lucky end of the draw, and although he played his hand to perfection, his tribe was totally inept; never once attempted to play the game. So, meh.
The win elevated Rob to top 5, above Russell, but at least below Sandra and Parvati.
Yul and Earl are difficult to judge in that they both only played 1 season.
Tbh, I didn't catch Earl's season but some say it's almost as impressive as Yul's.
As a side note. Obviously, luck plays a rather substantial role in the game.
For example, would Sandra have done as well if she was placed on a team that was weak on the challenge end early on?
Sandra excels when there is a lot of chaos as she can lose herself in the background but
she's pretty much deadweight in the physical department (which tbh means very little). She has been able to squeak by early on due to her team and has never been put off her game.
It's why I prefer Parvati who has a strong social game as well as a physical game, and can adapt when the group is decidedly against her (HvV).

The new season starts today. Anyone else excited? Coach and Ozzy are back. Honestly, both are not my favourite players, but it could have been worse. Cant wait!
