I'm very disappointed. I haven't played that many notable matches on the ladder so far (I have played a fair amount of these in tournament but not that many on the ladder) I've played players such as vibe, naniwa. But to play versus IdrA was like a cherry on the cake.
The game starts, I am streaming.I'm feeling a bit nervous because I want to show my audience that I can compete with such a beast.We spawn on Xel'Naga caverns. I type “gl hf” even though I barely ever type it anymore these days... no reply. I wasn't expecting one though, since it is IdrA I was facing .
I scout with my probe, he goes for pool and gas, a pretty standard opening. I open with a very standard build: 9 pylon 14 gate 15 gas 16 pylon 17 gas 18core or something like that. I've been having a bit of trouble against zerg when I go 3gate FE. Since we're playing on xel'naga caverns, I did not want to go stargate, I felt like DTs would come too early for him to have a third since he has to clear the rocks...
I decide to go with 4gate pressure into expand. This is when the sad part of this game happened =/ My probe sitting at his natural in case the 14hatch survived was patiently waiting on the left side of the map, patrolling and being confused on what to do.
No lings were trying to find him. Bob the probe (Yes I call my probe Bob) was not hunted. He was not on the bounty list. In fact he was not even on IdrA's "to do"-list. After watching the replay, I noticed IdrA sitting with his lings at the watchtower for 30 sec (2 at each), sending one to my ramp and using the 3 other lings to kill the rocks blocking his third.
I asked myself... “is IdrA drunk?” “Did IdrA just got out of bed and is playing sloppy?” “Did someone pay IdrA to ladder on his account?”
Well, no matter the reason, if he's not going to be careful and not going to poke in with an ovie, I will all-in him and win.
I was very anxious when I saw a bunch of roaches at the natural when I poked with my army, however the entrance at the natural on xel'naga is easily covered with 2-3 forcefields which made his army easily beatable.
I can assure you that Greg "IdrA" Fields was not pleased with the game at that particular moment.
I do regret all-inning IdrA. I wish I could show my viewers that PvZ is a winnable match-up even when played to the mid/late- game.
Maybe one day I will defeat IdrA in a macro game, but until then I will keep queueing ladder matches in search of brighter days.

Awesome game! I watch Desrow stream all the time, trust me he does usually just pressure /semi fake the 4gate into an expand and causes the zerg to over react and make way too much army and not enough drones so it actually works really well... not his fault that IdrA decided to be way to lax and open himself up for an actual all in 4gate.

This is a classic example of Idra fanboyism allowing someone to overlook so many obvious flaws in Idra's play: hmm I scouted 3 chronos being used on the warpgate tech, well better not worry about sending in an overlord to see if he's 4-gating (the most common build with so many chronos on the core), well I saw a nice little scouting probe walk to the left side of the map no need to check for proxy pylons...
I believe the mechanical perfection to which you attribute to Idra would have helped him recognize such an obvious attack.
So what form of scouting did Desrow actually prevent that made this impossible for Idra? he saw all he needed with his initial drone/ scouting the front with lings, granted Desrow was ready to stop any overlord scout for a bit but he backed off after a few seconds, do you really think 2 sentries can kill an overlord before it is able to move 2 pixels over? I find it hard to believe this was in any way a coinflip.
Desrow go spend more effort in getting better than bragging, it doesn't matter how much attention you get, how many practice game you manage to take off your practice partners that you post, at the end of the day your tournament results is what determines how good you are. Before you win anything you are like the rest of us, a piece of trash compare to the likes of idra.
I don't think he can even be consider mediocre base on his record. And he doesn't have the right mind set to achieve anything major right now, He is too far into superficial BS like taking a game off some big name than actually improving his game.

When you're fighting with your units in small fights, try and focus on micro a lot more. you seem to just send the units back in groups which isn't really micro and you should know this being from wc3 ^^. nj beating idra and I hope that someday u beat him in bo3.

LOL@all the hate. I think he made a smart move. You can see that Desrow could've expanded (he had 400 minerals for an expansion timed), but saw that his probe was still alive and that the overlord wasn't scouting, so made a forward pylon and warped in more units. He decided to go for a 4gate rush at that point, which was quite smart. Idra's fault for not scouting there. It's odd too since he usually sends his overlords into his opponent's base.

Do you have actual evidence of him cheating via streams? This is the equivalent of maphacking, so it's a fairly serious accusation of a well known player.
If you have no evidence of him actually cheating when you make a claim like this, it only destroys your own credibility. People did it when Cruncher stream sniped Idra once and the "incriminating" screenshot actually proved Cruncher's innocence and got a horde in rabid fans banned.

One can reverse your argument and say that anyone could have won versus desrow if he/she had just moved an overload into the base and scouted...and this is true. Desrow went for a blind all-in, and a Z who scouted it would easily have prepared properly and would have crushed him. And anyone can win with anything...that's just rhetoric.

To the user talking about stream cheating. I watch Desrow almost everyday. I enjoy his stream he is funny and very entertaining. I would like to understand the evidence of why you beleive he stream cheated, because that just sounds like you are looking to ruin a players name.
If you want the video you will notice in the opening hes says.. "What the..." He was not expect to play Idra he was totally surprised and took it very seriously. If you watch his stream you would see in most of his games he is always talking, joking, making funny voices or commenting about the game play. He barley says a word well playing Idra. Near the end you hear the sigh when he realized he had won. Then the pause and his celebration of the win.
Does that really sound like someone that was stream cheating???
Also this is his blog, He is blogging it so his fans can watch the win and see how he is improving his game play. This was not an attack on Idra as it seems some people are taking it as. Desrow has a lot of respect for other plays and when people ask him where he thinks he ranks he is always very humble. maybe even to much so.

I played VTFuture in hopes of stream sniping idra. That game of me vs future happened the 10th of june. I was trying to snipe idra and I ended up matching future. After playing future, i ended up going to his stream to see if he wrote anything about the game in the chat. He didn't. End of the story I don't stream cheat, I only stream snipe when I'm bored / not streaming/ playing the game myself. Stop "accusing" me of stream cheating -.-

It's like people don't understand how a player's personality creates a need in the market for these types of posts.Idra is everyone's favorite person to hate, a quality that he has--intentionally--crafted for himself. Again, i've been watching and playing sc2 for 3 weeks now and already hate Idra, in the same way I hated Lleyton Hewitt or Rex Ryan. Personally, I'd love to see every loss Idra takes its own blog written as well as this one. I just like to see him lose. If Idra was the only american left in a tournament, I'd still route for the other guy because something--maybe everything--about his demeanor irks me. I'm not alone. consistency my man. beating him once or twice with a rather "unusual" strategy isn't exaclty standing toe-to-toe. in a best of 10, i'd pretty much bet that idra would take it 9-1 or 8-2.....

Call me suspicious but the likely hood of someone simply "sniping" to play someone seems kind of like bullshit and rather unlikely. The guy acts like a douche on his stream and to see him stream cheating isn't too far fetched imo. He reminds me of deezer a lot
