So a few days ago, my laptop's motherboard burnt out and I was stuck without a good laptop. Fortunately, my brother just got a new laptop but it can't run sc2. So I said to myself, why not play some Brood War while my computer is down? I've never played multiplayer BW before so I had quite a bit of reading to do on strategies and whatnot. My first 5 games, I got crushed (well I had one game won but I had to go so I just a-moved and prayed lol)....However, game #6 would prove to be different. Opening up 1rax expo into 5fact against my Protoss opponent on Destination (I think that was it anyway), something felt different. I actually had no money, was getting upgrades, keeping map control with my siege tanks, denying DTs with my vessels, and stopping pushes with spider mine lines.
Then came the carriers
7 carriers and 4 arbiters destroyed all of my goliaths and my base...or so he thought. While I had had him contained, I literally took every single position on the map and began spamming factories everywhere (what can I say, my macro isn't too good past early/mid game ). I whittled his forces down to 3 carriers, one at 7 health, but he was quickly discovering my factories and picking off single goliaths. Finally, it came to one final stand. I had 8 3-1 goliaths vs his 2 3-1-3 carriers. At the end of the day, I was victorious.
I can now die happy having won a game of BW

You denied DTs with Science Vessels in TvP in your 6th game on iccup? You're gosu man! :D
Seriously, the feeling of winning in Brood War matches, especially on ICCUP, is the one thing I still miss when playing SC2 (maybe because I win so much trolololo). Congratz and keep playing, getting decent in BW will help you so much, especially with mechanics, when you switch back to SC2!

|
It must feel so satisfying :D
Man, that game gets your blood pumping and is so exciting to play
Congrtaz yo!
|
Well I denied DTs by having good Vessel placement, if that wording makes anymore sense
|
Gah, this makes me want to go buy Brood War. Never played online either, but I've been really wanting to.
|
Heartwarming testimonial!
|
|
congrats! imo you are lucky that it only took you 6 games : 3

I was looking through my old external hard drive and there was a sc rep pack backup folder and one of the reps was titled "First iccup win!" It was dated like April 2007 or something lol.

I'm so jealous u___u I can't even beat the CPU!
|
Congrats! Iccup is pretty crazy nowadays, winning your 6th game is pretty nice a feat, keep it up!

What's keeping you? You can just download a client from iccup, and get playing within 20 minutes. look for d-/cpu level games, and you might find a win pretty soon.

What an accomplishment. I think it took me 10-15 games to win one on ICCUP. I still (D+ / C- now) lose almost every game I try 1 Rax expo so major props for executing it well!
|
Man, I miss BW so much. It actually took effort to win a game

You can just download a client and play? Wha??? I don't own Brood War, or SC1 for that matter.

my first win:
my opponent left the game like 3 minutes in for no reason.
I'M SO GOSU!!
|
The first game of Iccup brood war I played I won with 2 base archon-zealot :D The opponent blindly thought I was going the usual corsair route and had spore colonies all over his base. I just walk in and the archons roast the hydra ling composition! It felt so awesome!

I downloaded the client and am trying to launch it, but it says "StarCraft Brood War version mismatch Expected '1.15.3.1' but was '1.16.1.1'"

I remember I had that problem when I dled BW.

I'm pretty sure that's because you're using the outdated iccup launcher, did you try to update it? Or you can just dl the latest version http://www.iccup.com/files/view/Anti-Hack_Launcher.html

I still remember my first win. I bunker rushed someone on Andromeda, he asked "cheese?" I didn't want to say anything in case I hadn't won, and then he just left.
|
Finally got it to work, and I won my first game! Against the AI that is. Dragoons have the most frustratingly retarded pathing in the world.

My first iccup win was when I played a 1v1 obs game on blue storm. My opponent kept map control against anything too big to fit in the tiny hole (He camped right above the ramp by my nat with mass hydra + a few ovies).
So I went mass zeal off 2 base vs his now 5-6base. He comes in with hydras and snipes my forge but the +1 attack finishes just in time and the lost forge becomes meaningless! I send zeals out all over the map and he can't hold any defense against it. In his main they acted like dark templars sniping drones :3. Then he pushed into my nat again just to find 12 more zeals and a ht with storm . I ended the match with "who's noob now?" he was the host and banned me from his next 5 games that I tried joining lol. + Show Spoiler [3FFA gets cheered by a girl like a pro] +A girl obs was cheering me on throughout the game lol. None of the obs used ac.

Yup, same thing for me, when I played on iCCup, I was so amazing I won my very first game played there and started talking shit to my friends. Next thing I know, I'm 1-25, I hate smurfs. But damn did winning feel good.

Huge congrats man, that sounds super exciting!

Just torrent a current version of Brood war (I suggest going to isohunt.com, searching bw, and going for ths 1st result.

or you can get the one linked on the first page.

Gz man! I know nothing more intense than playing bw on iccup, man that game gets the adrenaline pumping. I mean, even when I win a game I'm completely drained and many times need to take a break.
