Don't give them your work! They don't deserve it and you don't owe them! Just tell them no! If they're really a friend they won't push it. If they're not your friend well then who cares.

I'd send a really really stupid code to those stupid noob shits just to fool them and give them a nice lesson and tell that there were too many errors that were fixed at the last minute and it wasn't possible to e-mail to them after that.

That happened to a lot of guys in circuit lab last term in my school. Most of the guys copied preliminary works from last year's solutions, but there was a change in one of the questions, it asked comparator circuit instead of clipper. Stupid noob shits solved a non-existing clipper circuit question and all failed that class. World is full of idiots.

You learned a valuable life lesson that I think most of us 'smart' people learn somewhere down the line. It just doesn't pay to give out your work. If they really need to cheat, at least charge them some money and redo the assignment for them.

Someday, these same people who asked you to copy your homework will be asking you for bigger and grander things. If you're a car salesman, they'll ask for a hookup on the car. If you're a lawyer, they'll ask for some pro bono. And if you're rich, they'll ask for a loan. Second life lesson: Never do business with 'friends'.
Be versatile, know when to retreat, and carry a big gun.

Wow, that really sucks...

Lesson learned, I suppose, and you did catch a small break there (silver lining ><), so yeah...I feel your pain, though something like that has not happened to me exactly.

Big shame, if that guy asks you again, report him immediately.

I wish they allowed group assignments. I enjoy working alone, but with group assignments, I can pair up with people who don't care and don't get in my way. With individual work I often find myself in a similar predicament as you (though this is a social science discipline, so the level of comprehensions appear to be at an all-time low here at my uni.)

Sorry to hear about your predicament.

If your friends can't do programming projects on their own, drop them.

Or at least tell them to use google, since that's the end-all-be-all of solving programming problems.

i don't even send out my code to people i actually trust <.< i did it one time, and the idiot sent it in unmodified, so the tools that were used to check for similarities got us visits with the tutors x) anyhow, i could explain my program so it's fine for me, but since then, i never gave anybody my solution that i wasn't in a team with.

if they need your solution, it doesn't matter how much you believe them to be capable to do this on their own or at least modify it, they won't because either you believed wrong or it doesn't matter because they are lazy as shit or just too busy, they'll send it in unmodified, almost no exceptions. :/

I have similar requests for my C++ programming class. Thankfully most of my friends that ask for help, I can usually spot their error and don't have to go through the trouble. If a person is merely asking for my code and I know they just want to copy it, I just tell them to ask their TA. I only give out code to people I trust are smart enough to know to use it as a reference and not as a cheat sheet.
I like money. You like money too? We should hang out.

Well, looks like you learned your lesson. Don't be a doormat and let stupid/lazy people profit for free from your hard work. I hope that you can now confidently tell these people to piss off if they ever ask to copy off of you again. So, yeah, you were not smart in that situation, either.

And your story illustrates quite perfectly why I've never bothered to hang out with anyone but the "smart" people since high school...

Can't agree more OP. Don't get me wrong, I've copied and let others copy me, but most of the time that was on a math problem or something where it being the same as someone elses' would be completely normal. Though, out of the handful of times I ever let someone copy writing assignments I was burned enough to stop doing it at all. You'd think it be easy to change stuff up enough that it's not obvious, or at least not provable, but some people are just too lazy, stupid, or both.

You're not an idiot for send them a program without insuring that they fix it. You're an idiot for sending them a program. If you're in a university you're fortunate to not have been expelled and have a black mark on your transcript for the rest of your life. You help noone by facilitating others to cheat.

Next time don't send the programs. You don't have to be ashamed of not helping someone cheat.
