I remember I was placed in a pretty nerd-free environment once. I just acted normal dropping only the occasional meme - not the bad ones like >9000, double rainbow etc, but keeping it to a minimal. Using moderate slang like trolling and GG and other slang similar and when I couldn't help myself but to make a reference and no one got it and stared at me confused I just rolled my eyes at them as if to act like they were they ones weird for not getting it. Because if you explain it when they don't ask and don't get it they get freaked out and you seem really really weird. Just say (if they ask) "never mind, just google it" so one you don't seem even weirder and two so they go and research for themselves - on the internet. And guess what - it will be all over the internet, and it will make them feel like they were missing something for not getting it and they will feel like weird ones the outcasts. If they don't ask just smile to yourself and keep going as if it were a completely normal occurrence.
Slowly but surely if you keep very moderate internet culture references going (and not act like you have turrets) people around you will research and acclimatize so long as you keep it occasional and really good and if they make an attempt (even if it's god awful) acknowledge it laugh a bit this will make it seem like it is normal, hopefully they will eventually follow your or a qualified internetition's usage of it with time.
After my stay there I left behind a large ring of geek culture there so it shouldn't be forgotten there for a long time. But you have to start gently not full on turrets.

Yeah I have a similar experience, only despite all my friends being nerds, I am the one that spends the most time on the internet, interneting it up. So they ask me every once in a while how the internet is doing and what the cool new thing is, and I don't actually know because I stopped caring a long time ago, but I show them youtube videos. Everyone loves cute animals doing cute things. I do occasionally troll knowyourmeme and encyclopedia dramatica, but I mean how does one really explain Epic Beard Man for example? I'll have to start going into racism and then it's lost all its humor.
The greatest thing for me is when my friends come to me and go "you've probably seen this, but check out this awesome internet thing" and 99% of the time I have seen it, but every once in a while they will surprise me.
I don't know, it really shouldn't be a big deal. Just don't make it your sole contributing factor. Kind of like in that HIMYM episode about having a thing so you are not fired from your job, try having multiple things. If all of your humor stems from the internet, that might be a problem judging from the crowd you are currently hanging out with.
