LMAO. Well lets pretend my apartment isn't a shoe-box where they'd have to sit on top of each other just to fit in here.

I dunno, it would probably be more fun that way :D

I agree :p

The trailer made my coworker cry, for Dead Island. Hahaha. She was mad at me the rest of the day.

You're not missing too much with L4D/2...that game is kind of hit and miss. Some days it's good and other days there's just...something wrong with your group and the teams are horridly stacked and it's like pitting a D+ Terran vs Flash on ICCUP.

Then you get annoyed and shelf it for two months. Or at least I did, haha. I imagine Dead Island is gonna be the same to an extent, however, it will be fresh and original for at least a little while! We'll have to see what happens with Dead Island - I'll be sure and PM you when it's out!

Somehow I found this phrase to be pretty cute (maybe the fact that English is my second language has something to do with it). Is it a British expression?

Real question: moving into a new country has certain level of culture shock, and often involves some sort or funny anencdote due to cultural differences. Do you have any story to share?

Just wanted to jump in here to say that I am a Starcraft 2 noob who only found out about who you are and what you used to do in BW recently, and I have to say that you seem to be an awesome person! I hope to see more from you in the future!

Knowing about Korea and stuff, don't people hate you if you collect figures for being 'otaku'? (except for the people who collect it themselves)

Not just like buying one or two, but if you collect a lot.

Also, I just remembered: Which is better for spectating BW? Loox or E-Sports Stadium at 용산? I'm going to Korea this summer and I want to know beforehand I start going crazy.

It's just something I made up, but I use it a lot weirdly enough.

Hmm, there's not much that really comes to mind. I'll have a think about it, and get back to you on that.

Not many tbh. Just Susie and cgivisionary right now. I've made other friends here, but sadly a lot of them were students so we just keep in touch via the net now. I don't really socialize much (partially due to my health, partially due to not being able/wanting to get involved in the popular drinking culture here, and partially because I'm awkward as hell.)

I've found myself less and less interested in trying to make new friends too. I prefer small groups (preferably no more than three people.) and just hanging out/shopping/going to restaurants in a chilled out way.

Well no one has actively said 'I hate you/your crazy love of Japanese plastic shit etc.' or anything that implies racism/dislike to me regarding my Japan-centric hobbies. I know some of them find it a little strange since otaku culture isn't really popular here (and adding to that I'm a woman/a foreigner so it seems even stranger considering a lot of the foreign women here don't even know about that type of thing.)

My co-worker (another foreign woman) did sneer and go '$200 for a doll?' when I was talking to my other co-worker the other day about it. I politely asked her 'Do I laugh at your hobbies? No, because it's rude.' That shut her up quickly lol. I'd never dream of being so rude about someone elses' preferences, so I don't expect people to make negative comments about mine. It's fine to say it's not your thing, but acting as though someone's hobby is inferior or wrong just because you don't understand/like it really annoys me.

I've found the otaku working/attending places like Comic World and Nonno21 (a shop which sells loads of nendoroids and other Japanese figures) to be really welcoming. When myself and cgivisionary attended Nonno21's monthly flea market we got given canned coffee, more raffle tickets that I was technically supposed to have (a random teenage boy even came over to give me his lol.) and discounts on things I bought. It felt really nice, but my only regret was that I couldn't communicate more with these lovely people due to my shoddy language skills.

I also always get service and discount when I go to these shops. I've had everything from free figures to free food :D It's a really nice quirk of Korean shopping culture.

I personally prefer Yongsan's OGN center - it's bigger, airier, you get a much better view, and there's much more to do around it. You have the whole I-Park mall with its shops (for me the appeal is the model kit/figure store Hobby Square and the gaming floor in the same building as the OGN center.) cinema and easy access via the subway to other places.

LOOX MBC Hero Center is a little more out of the way, and the small mall it's in is often like a ghost town. There's nothing much to do there even around Yeongdongpo station. The studio is much smaller, cramped, bad lighting etc. You should try to experience both, but for me Yongsan is king.

What's the age demographics for esports? I've always wondered if there's grandparents sitting at home cheering on JD and grandmas with bisu posters.

I've actually seen the odd elderly person at games. They tend to come with their grandkids or other relatives, but it's not unheard of. My Mum came to several games and helped out with photo shoots when she was here. The largest demographics are;

~ Boys aged anywhere between 8/9-30s.
~ Women aged from about 15-30s. (Generally fan club members.)

The female fans tend to be far more active than the boys, and will attend matches religiously depending upon when their chosen team/player is playing. They're also responsible for things like organizing birthday gifts, fan meetings and other events. A few of the fanclub presidents are male, but the vast majority are ladies.

Also, they're generally very knowledgeable about the game itself, and whilst fan meetings do contain fanservice (players dancing, larking about etc.) they often have a larger focus on technical questions during the Q&A sections. This depends upon the team and their style of meeting, but at the meetings the girls usually out-number the boys by a significant margin.

Certain teams have a lot more male fans (in comparison to others, but their female fan base will still be of a decent size.) - such as ACE and to an extent CJ.

You're helping me shop in secret when I get there this summer =P (Male/Korean)

I just wanted to ask about the whole 'otaku' thing because shit storm always brews up in online communities. But I guess this 'rage' happens less in real life.

Sure :D I love shopping. I think people are a bit more polite when saying things to your face. TBH I don't care what someone thinks about my otaku hobbies provided they aren't rude to me in person.

One day ^_^; I'm too nervous to go get one on my own (I find the vendors to be so pushy.) and I resent paying for something I won't use.
