So with the upcoming MLG columbus tournament coming up I began to think about the koreans who have been invited to take part, and been given seeds (as far as I understand which is messed up). After watching last nights sotg and hearing how the koreans think they're really superior to everyone else in terms of starcraft I just want to see them get smashed. Like not even questionable wins. Straight up destroyed in every single game they play. That's all really, I just think it would be cool to see them get crushed in a tournament they haven't earned a place in

Do you believe all of the sweeping generalizations SOTG tells you?

Well not all of the Koreans believe that anymore. Koreans have been beaten in quite a few foreign tournaments and I'm sure that their eyes have been opened a little bit. Plus theres no need to say that they haven't earned a place in the tournament, because they were invited. The top placers at MLG also get automatic entry into the Korean GSL, giving foreigners a chance in korea. I hope both the Koreans and foreigners play good games at this MLG!

Being offered a place at GSL isn't the same as attending a 3 day tournament over a weekend, with GSL you could be there for a long time. The GSL requires a huge commitment of time while attending MLG requires less time

The entire thing obviously isn't fair to the non-Korean players but .... MMA and Bomber are REALLY good ... I mean sick good. Naniwa is probably the only non Korean that could touch them but even that is somewhat of a stretch. We will see should be very interesting.

Come on, HuK beat MMA and I think their are many non-Korean players that can compete against HuK. IdrA, Thorzain, Naniwa maybe Kiwikaki are all players that can beat these guys, plus the psychological factor comes into it. They are in an unfamiliar setting that could be a distraction for these guys. I expect a few upsets for sure and maybe, what you want, a crushing of the Koreans. To be honest I think LosirA and Bomber will get very far at MLG.

Who cares, really I mean the majority of the "foreigners" already declined GSL invites or just don't want to go to Korea, to spend a ton of money and have a chance to maybe get 1500 bucks for Code A and the Code S slot isn't much better for the risk or going there for a month vs the rewards possible. I don't think the Starcraft2 E-sports scene will be focused in Korea in the next two years, shifting to the NA/EU because of the amount of people watching collectively from NA/EU easily out weigh Korea's SC2 viewers(it's just simple logic). However I do agree with the sentiment of the OP in the sense that Korean's haven't earned the places given to them in the foreign community, they're still riding the stigma from BW of "Korean's are just better and if you don't come to Korea to play your a coward/baddie/noob/w.e". This isn't to say that they don't deserve invites and should be made to compete in every qualifier, but auto seed into Championship Brackets is rediculous for 3 token invites to CodeA(whooping 1500 bucks whoooo) and a single code S. TSL3/NASL proved and continue to prove that Korean's aren't the end all be all of the SC2 pro-scene, and personally even though I love to watch certain Korean players more then EU and NA players I love seeing them get crushed. If only because each time it happens, it is another shovel of dirt burying the idea that "Korean's are just better then us."

It's obvious you're just raging over some of Incontrol's misinformation. If you were truly concerned about "fairness", what about the top 16 who are still seeded into pool play after doing terribly at the previous MLG? Surely they deserve less than say the winners and finalists of Code A and IEM.

The pool of talented players is sooooo much deeper in korea.
Koreans really are superior in every way in starcraft... BW but in starcraft... 2 they are just superior in the way that there are more people that are better than 99.99% of the rest of the world.
Id like to see some upsets too tho don't get me wrong. And id like to see FXO really take the training they can have in Korea to heart.

And shove it about fairness. the Koreans practically drop foreigners into code A past the qualifiers they are good to us in that regard... Then they kick our ass in the tournament.

speaking in general not necessarily starcraft
Korean Gaming Skill >> Everyone else gaming skill
is a pretty accepted fact.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or if you're thirteen years old. In any case, I don't think you understand the bigger picture.

First of all, this switch is going both ways. Non-Korean players who do well at MLG will be automatically placed into the GSL without having to qualify, which is akin to how the Korean invites are seeded without having to go through an open bracket. What GOM and MLG are trying to do here is promote the global scene, and in order to do this international tournaments must mutually recognize achievements. What this means is that a high placing at MLG should be comparable to, say, winning in the up/down matches of GSL. This also means that getting far in the GSL should be comparable to placing well in MLG. By doing this, it makes perfect sense that someone like Losira, who won Code A, should be seeded directly into pool play. Why should someone who has performed extremely well at an international tournament be denied a seed at another international tournament? You aren't seeing both sides of the coin, because this system is completely fair to both Korean and foreign players. This might even be more helpful to foreigners since it is so tough to qualify for the GSL. The whole point of this system is to promote global cooperation between Starcraft 2 leagues in order to expand the scene.

Second of all, Koreans ARE superior in terms of depth. It is pretty clear that there are many more GOOD Korean players than there are good foreign players. I'm not ragging on foreigners here, because I believe that the best foreigners and the best Koreans are on a similar level. It's just that Korea has so much more depth.

Thirdly, why are you listening to SotG like it's the fucking bible? The show has players giving their opinions, and you're free to make your own judgments based on those opinions, but how can you start hating ALL Korean players because of the words of a couple of foreign ones? The answer is you can't. It's extremely juvenile to generalize those comments to all Koreans and this is especially so since no Koreans were specified on this issue. Furthermore, after seeing the results at IEM, why wouldn't Koreans believe themselves to be superior? Three Startale members dominated a tournament full of foreigners in a country they don't even know.

I feel I should clarify I didn't mean that people were saying that koreans felt that felt, they were talking about the article where some guy, i can't remember his name, was saying that foreigners were scared of koreans not just the guys on the show saying that they were all arrogant.

But honestly I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to see "my guys" prevail over 'the man', my reasoning may seem...odd but I generally prefer "western" players and the games are usually far more entertaining. I don't want to see them do well because they didn't earn the places they're arriving with, if they came and earned their seeding from scratch thats fine and I can respect that.

Hey the more awesome players in a tournament the better. It will make everyone step up their play by the Koreans just being there. And there are a bunch of foreigners who can give a Korean a good game on Lan latency e.g.IdrA, Nani, Thorzain, Kas, ret, TLO, Sheth, SelecT, Kiwikaki etc. Don't rule the foreigners out just yet!

I never said there was anything wrong with rooting for you guys. The whole point of my post was to explain to you that the Korean invites DID earn their spots by performing well in GSL and other international tournaments. Are you saying that "your guys" who place high in MLG Columbus and get into Code A/S directly won't deserve it also?

I don't think they deserve it, they did well at MLG not GSL. Over time it will probaby be fine as the two tournaments will develop a 'link' but right now it a real curve ball

You should take everything Geoff says with a grain of salt. Most of the pros have expressed very friendly and respectful manners to the foreigners, especially in the World Championship tournament. All their interviews were very courteous, and they seemed to truly feel that the foreigners were very good
