Best Fantasy HB this season: Peyton Hillis (unless the Madden Curse strikes!)
Best Fantasy WR this season: Dwyane Bowe or Roddy White
Best Fantasy TE this season: Jermichael Finley

Full disclosure: After my Matt Schaub/Andre Johnson combo failed miserably, Antonio Gates was crippled, and Ryan Grant went on IR after like 3 minutes of football, I thought my fantasy season was completely over. Buuut, I picked up Peyton Hillis, Michael Vick, and they carried me to a first place win. (+ a little Ryan Torain action at the right time).

Hillis: With Colt McCoy getting even better and spreading defenses out, that will only give Hillis (a) more room to hurdle noobs, and (b) allow him to stay fresh longer in the season with a slightly lower workload.

Bowe/White: When I banished Schaub to the bottom of my bench and nabbed Vick only to see him go down to injury, Matt Cassel filled in nicely for me. Dwayne Bowe was killing it down the field, and the two got better as the season went on. With Nnamdi Asomugha likely leaving the division, that's even more profit for Bowe.
I don't see White slowing down anytime soon either. How long can Turner stay healthy for? White's a great talent and is very capable of big numbers with Ryan at QB.

Finley: The great thing about Jermichael Finley is that he's just as much of a threat as Antonio Gates, but in a different way. You KNOW both tight ends are going to be trouble, but you just can't stop them. With Gates, he's just always miraculously open. How someone who is notoriously the best TE in the league always ends up standing totally alone 30 yards downfield just boggles my mind. If he can stay healthy, his route running and savvy ability to find weak spots will definitely make him the best in the league once more.

However, Finley also has the ability to score and be open like Gates, but he's much more raw in the way he goes about it. His size, speed, and frame ensure he'll be open even if there's a CB draped all over him. With San Diego's emerging 2-headed running attack and Jackson's return to the WR stable, I see San Diego moving slightly away from Gates, though he'll always be the first option in the red zone. Since Green Bay will have a more uncertain RB situation (will Grant return to form? Is Starks for real?), and since I believe their oft-relied upon 3rd WR James Jones will leave for a starting job, I'll bet Finley gets even more looks than Gates this season.

Finally, while I am a born-and-raised Packer fan, I do secretly root for the Lions too and I really really hope they play well this year. I LOVE watching their defensive line (Van den Bosch is a MONSTER, like, his motor never, ever stops), and they're actually showing signs of life now. I just hope their offensive line can keep Stafford alive long enough to win some games.

All of this, of course, assumes we even have football this year I bet we will. The two NY teams opening the season on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 is something I'm not sure how I feel about, but I know it will be epic and extremely emotional for an entire nation. Just another reason to make sure the season happens.

P.S. I don't usually read him, but this truly is an amazing Rick Riley article on NFL players most affected by lockout. Not everyone has superstar money to fall back on... Making Tight Ends Meet

Poor Detroit. They are to NFC North as Sea is to the MSL's Group D of death.

Then again, I know next to nothing on football so I'm not very qualified to speak on these matters.

Patrick Peterson is soooooooooooooooo good....

He really is one of those players that is scary in terms of his speed and athleticism, he'd be scary if he was 5'10" but the fact that he's wide receiver height is crazy.

Assuming we have a season, I really like the Rams' chances of making the playoffs, given that they draft a receiver (Julio Jones preferably). As for the best draft prospect, Von Miller baby! I watched him play for the last two years and he is an athletic freak that will fit really well in a proper NFL defense.

I dont play fantasy football but I sure hope theres a season this year. I'm an unabashed niners fan and I really hope the new coach can make things work. As for the best division I still think it could be NFC east. The problem is the cowboys underperform, the eagles are inconsistent (largely dependent on Vick) and the giants crash and burn in the latter part of the season. That's most of the division lol...

Vick's gonna have a major drop this year because defenses will have a full year worth of video on his play from last year. Same exact thing happened as a rookie. He ran all over people who weren't used to that and then teams started watching video and foudn it much more difficult. He'll still have some success as long as Jackson remains healthy enough to run under any balls thrown within 20 yards of him. Vick should be blowing Reid and Jackson every single day for being the catalysts in his turnaround.

At any rate, I'd take Rodgers over him 100% fantasy wise. Rodgers is pretty much a lock for 30TD at this point and a few rushing.

also, who actually voted for Cam?? That dude just gives off such a bust vibe. Gabbart sounds like the much better nfl prospect by far.

AJ green will also probably make someone very happy at WR. Dude's good.

Toughest division in 2011?
I voted the NFC North, only because I think Detroit (if Stafford stays healthy) can give Chicago/GB a run for their money this season. Obviously, the Vikings are in the phase of rebuilding, but the presence of Adrian Peterson alone wins them games against crappy teams. In second and third I would put NFC South (if it weren't for Carolina, they would be first) and then the AFC South.

Weakest division in 2011?
The west coast teams stink, so unanimously, the NFC West. Like last season, it will be wide open... although I'm sure the Rams will take it this year.

Best draft prospect this year?
Patrick Peterson for me. Cleanest player, looks set to be a multiple Pro Bowler. I don't see anything wrong with him. AJ Green is pretty good too.

The NFC North is hilariously overrated. I still think Chicago sucks and they are doing Cutler wrong by lettting him play with a bunch of scrubs offensively and there's maybe another year or so before that D gets too old. GB is obviously legit. The Vikes will go no where without a decent QB. The defense is aging there as well, so they can't rely on AP and that like they did pre-Farve days.

The NFC west will be the weakest I agree.

I think I'd probably pick Houston over the Rams for new playoff team. Johnson is that good and they do have a lot more pieces, even if the D is still quite meh overall. The Rams will ride Bradford's arm and a lot of Steven Jackson (who'd lite the league up if he was ever on a good team.)

Gore and Jackson are so sad to watch because I think they've been two of the best all around backs for a couple years now and they just get stuck on terrible teams.

Hahah never thought I'd see the day when someone said the NFC North would be strong BECAUSE OF THE LIONS.

I really hope there is a 2011 season to see if we don't totally collapse.
Take anything I say with a grain of salt.....I suck at this game. Also, Go Blue!

It would be cool, but there is no season afaik. They failed to come to an agreement yesterday and have locked out the 2011 season. I guess they might meet at a later date, but I doubt that will change much.

While I like Hillis and think he is a great back. I am just not sure McCoy will have the same success he had last season. While he may be getting better, teams now have had more time to watch the tape on him at the NFL level. This season will be a big test for McCoy and if he does well so will Hillis and the Browns.

Personally I think some "unknown" will take the top HB spot this year. A topflight HB will get hurt and his backup is going to step in bigtime.

As a Cowboys fan, I think barring major injuries, they easily have the talent to make a playoff run. Bringing in Rob Ryan to run the defense will be huge. Unfortunately they still have a few holes, but who knows what happens in next week's (?) draft. Not to mention Free Agency is going to be absolutely crazy once it opens up.

My voting -

Stongest division: NFC East (obvious bias)
Weakest: I think both West divisons are terrible.
Prospect: Peterson
team to make playoffs: Cowboys
Team not repeating playoff: Seattle
QB: Vick (I have a feeling Rogers is going to get another concussion and will ose more games this year)
HB: Other (Some "unknown" backup stepping in will take this)
WR: Megatron
TE: Gates

The judge will be ruling on the lockout in the next few days. That is pretty much why they are taking a break in mediation (although neither side really wanted to do anything until the ruling came down). When the judge provides the ruling things will speed up a bit one way or the the other because one side will be at a clear advantage. Of course there will be an appeal but that will just be delaying the inevitable.

Ahh, damn sensationalist sports news sites trying to get some shocked factor. Good to hear that the season can still be a possibility.

I never quite figured out how Hillis got as many yards as he did last season, especially on that team. He doesn't have one particular trait that really makes him stand out, but he gets it done alright. It will be interesting to see how he goes this year.

McCoy, I liked him in college but I wasn't crazy about him for the NFL. He was definitely good enough to draft though and shows promise. Even if he were to continue to progress, there's not really much of reason to be to excited about that team beyond he and Hillis

It would be cool, but there is no season afaik. They failed to come to an agreement yesterday and have locked out the 2011 season. I guess they might meet at a later date, but I doubt that will change much.

Yep, the rulling on the lockout will get things moving one way or the other.

If the players win, the lockout will be lifted and the NFL will be court-ordered to come up with a temporary CBA to use for the time being. Both sides will return to mediation and the players would be expected to win a couple more of the smaller battles.

If the NFL wins, the lockout will continue and the players are now in a race against the clock to get a deal completed before players start missing paychecks for games. Once players start missing serious paychecks unity will most likely go out the window as players will begin signing with teams individually so they can get paid again. The owners with the upper hand will be able to get more of their demands.

Either way, I think the most likely worst case scenario is we miss a couple preseason games and the season as a whole runs like normal. I think the worst worst case scenario is we actaully miss a couple games because the whole preseason gets swept up in the lockout and they need 2 weeks to get back up to speed. I honestly do not believe they will lock out the season. There is simply too much money at stake for nothing to happen.
