Inconsistency

Just what is it that causes inconsistency in starcraft? If I were to put my performance on a graph, it'd look like this...

That low point happens much more often than depicted...

But is it because the stars line up one day and decide, "Hey, let's fuck this kid's day up yeah? ;D" and actually screw you over? Is it something much closer than what I'm imagining?

I've played SC2 since release, definitely played almost 1k games, and I just feel like my performance isn't up to par with what it should be. Is there any way to improve consistency in how we play?

Almost every game I've done 3 gate robo/3 gate expo into 4 gate robo. Rarely I go for blind 2 gate Stargate, but those games are so few I can still count them with my fingers.

Every game I do the same exact build order, yet I still feel like I have to leave things to lady luck in order to win.

Well depending on where you are in the ladder you'll be facing a large variety of people who have different experience with your build. Some people will just know how to deal with it better so it feels like you're playing worse but it may just be the opponent is the X factor in whether you win or not. Then again it could just be the exact opposite and your success may depend on how familiar you are with what your opponent does and if it plays to the natural strengths of your build.

That all assumes you are an at least somewhat consistent player to begin with though.

I can't really give you any advice because I don't know your specific problems or even your level of play

It's an ongoing struggle with trying to put up some results on the ladder. While pubstomping on the ladder probably wouldn't make me feel too good since, well, it'd be pubstomping, barely getting by with roughly 50% w/l makes me wanna punch a wall all day long...

50% W/L ratio is what the matchmaking system wants you to have. If you're at 50% w/l it means you're almost alwyas playing people at the same level of skill.
