My father was always a supporter of Sao Paulo Futebol Club, the third most popular football team in Brazil and I grew up liking the team. It's a team that has given to the world players like Kaka, Rai, Luis Fabiano and Careca and a which has wson 3 World Club Cups (1992, 1993, 2005) and 3 Libertadores (the South American Club Cup). But that's not the most special thing about it.
I would call Rogerio Ceni the last romantic. He's been playing for Sao Paulo his entire professional career - which is, 20 years and 941 apperances, which makes him the most capped player in the club's history. Besides that, he's the 18th top scorer. Yeah, he scores and last Sunday he scored his 100th goal as a professional player (98th in official FIFA matches).
Here it is:
Rogerio Top Moments
------------------------------------
THE COMEBACK
+ Show Spoiler +
- Rogerio had, at that moment, scored 64 goals, which was a tie between him and Chilavert for the top scorer goalkeeper
- Sao Paulo was losing 2x0 in this match, when a penalty kick happened in favor of Cruzeiro.
- Rogerio saves it ( 4:06 )
- 2 minutes later in the match, he has his chance at a free kick, and scores his 65th goal, making him the goalkeeper with most goals in football history. It was also his first goal with a "running ball" (don't know the expression in English, but I mean he wasn't the one who shoot the free kick, the ball was passed to him) ( 4:38 )
- Before the game ended, he scores a penalty kick, saving Sao Paulo from a loss. ( 6:23 )
- Sao Paulo was the champion of Campeonato Brasileiro in that year ( 2006 ) and in the two following years ( 2007 and 2008 ).
ALMOST HAT TRICK =/
+ Show Spoiler +
- Rogerio scores two free kick goals in the same match ( 1:25 and 3:27 )
- He has a chance of scoring a third goal, in a penalty kick, but misses it ( 5:18 )
- Sao Paulo was the champion of Libertadores in 2005.
MAN OF THE MATCH AND CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
+ Show Spoiler +
- Rogerio stops Gerrard perfect free kick and, after winning 2002 World Cup with Brazil, win his World Cup Club with Sao Paulo, taking the trophy home.
Weel, that's for my little homage to The Captain. Hope just you guys liked to see some of the moments of a great goalkeeper.
