Hello fellow TL'ers,
I seem to be writting into the blog section regulary, eh?
Well, this time, this time Day[9] made me to do it! I know I am not the first one and probably not even the last one who creates such channel for themselves in an attempt to find like-minded people to socialize with and enjoy SC2 with.
However, to get to the point of this little rambling of mine - I've watched that daily and I realized how alone I am in terms of StarCraft 2 buddies. I mean, yes, I do have people in my SC2 contact list, but how many of them are actual buddies? Maybe seven of them. But, two of those disappeared into WoW, one of them, an awesome Protoss player and a nice guy overall, is way too busy with his own practice as well as with his own team, another one, great and funny guy who also plays Protoss, I can hardly get to see online due to timezone difference between us, while another of my friends, yet another Protoss who has actually helped quite few people, play like three times a week and again, timezone factor gets in the way, so I often miss him. And the another one, finally a non-Protoss, but a Terran player, is quite young and sometimes I just want to kick his butt for doing the weirdest crap whenever I play him! Don't want to forget my dear Zerg friend, who however became quite frustrated with Zerg, so he hasn't touched SC2 for a while.
Someone I spoke about not having friends actually made a comment on that; quite funny one too. + Show Spoiler +Putting it in spoiler simply because I hate even mentioning it - but basically, he couldn't believe I struggle with finding friends while being a girl playing SC2, apparently it shouldn't be a problem for me to make friends. I responded along the lines that I'd just hate to be befriended because I have boobs. Rather, I would prefer people to be friends with me because they'd enjoy the same thing as me. He kinda laughed at that. Oh well.
I could easily find myself when Day[9] spoke about not getting into SC2 because of ego. These few SC2 friends I made along the way know how good I am/was at kicking myself for losses or even losing motivation to actually play at times. Sometimes, I'd just log on SC2 and watch others play. Or, watch my favourite Protoss players' stream. (I actually would have three Protoss heroes - HuK, iNcontroL and Ryan Rushia - <3 you guys) instead of actually playing anything! Fear of failure, fear of loss. Yes, so common, isn't it? Those who read my blog regulary know about my goals as well as my love for this damn game.
I've been trying to fight that negative side of mine, to my pleasure, with some success already! However, I simply want to get further into it, play more, which is where I believe that if I actually had someone or even small group of people to hang out with would help me to make even bigger progress, both as a SC2 player as well as my overall mindset I've been trying to work on.
I'm a Bronze player.. however, I haven't laddered for so long, instead, been practicing in public games on ladder maps for the sake of variety of opponents and skill levels. I'm actually looking for few friends, who'd like to spend time with me, hanging out, chatting, practicing and even sharing insights together. I'd like friends who'd not look at leagues and points, saying I am piece of scrub. I would love to meet someone very enthusiastic about the game, so I could lend that enthusiasm and positive energy whenever my motivation and self confidence is low; as well as be there for the other person should they need that. Friends always look out for each other. I don't want 'just' a practice partner, but actual buddies. Making things together, playing, training. I don't care if you are Bronze or Masters - just be friendly, positive, nice and love the damn game. :-)
I always thought how much fun it would be to hang out on skype with SC2 buddies. After all, I think I now know why many of really good players are always so motivated and positive - they do have a backup in form of their teammates, where they do exactly the same thing I'd love to do - they hang out together, talk together, practice and screw around together! Sadly, the only day I am free to talk over skype is Saturday. To explain - I'm a parent to 7 years old kid, and he goes to bed early during week. While on Saturday, he's allowed to stay up quite late, so me talking, yelling, laughing and sharing some good times over skype wouldn't be a problem for me.
Of course, we could be hanging out during weekdays through SC2 and regular messaging to do all of these things as well.
I have to say how much effort it took me to actually write this message. One of reasons I have very little friends is - I'm simply shy person. Always concerned how the others would see me, judge me and perhaps hate me. Heck, the other day, when I had a practice game and teammate of my dear friend joined to observe, I told my friend to tell him to go away, because the very idea of having someone to see me screw up majorly would be a reason for me to be nervous like hell, instead of me telling his friend simple 'hi' and perhaps befriending him as well.
But, my urge to find friends and to not be alone in this huge SC2 world is stronger now. After all, Day[9] made me to do it so I finally tried to come out of my shell to look out for a friend or two...or three...
Either way, if you took time to read this wall of text, I appreciate that. Hopefully, this little lonely Toss won't be so lonely anymore after this - just give me a shout.

I mean you have to find other things you have in common so SC isn't the only thing you are talking about, but that's not always easy as starcraft players come from so many different backgrounds. One is 13 years old, the other is grandpa, one is communist, the other anarchocapitalist, one is uni student, the other hard working since 16. SC will often be the only mutual interest..
Pretty much all the time ever since I first installed BW I've been forever alone in the world of starcraft.

I myself am looking for a few friends to enjoy all the experiences of Sc2 with. I have been playing Rts games since the good old Warcraft 2 days. However any friends I made for those games never made the move to the Starcraft series. Since then I have only made one or two "friends" and I use the term loosely since I can only get a game out of them and maybe a couple of minutes of conversation. After watching Day9's daily on how to get into Starcraft and having people to talk to I realized how much I was missing out on and yearned for a few true friends to share experiences, games, and discussions with. As of right now I am a Silver level Terran player on the NA server. I am usually on everyday towards mid-day to evening, my account is Gabreael, character code 109. Well, for me, sharing a realID is matter of trust. So if I actually intend to find actual buddies, who won't just act silly, I have no problem sharing it.

Should do what I did and pretty much force your buddies to buy the game, let them finish the campaign and slowly try to coach them out of awfulness. And show them awesome pro games when they're getting it.
It doesn't always catch, but having IRL friends to talk about the latest GSL is a great reward.
Only problem is despite my best efforts, they are still, to a man, TERRIBLE. One of them has 8 APM. Fucking....eight. I was obsing him play once and it hurt to watch. 'A banshee is killing your stuff, get your marines over there. The marines. Come on dude yours scvs are dying. Fucking...box the marines and a move. Why are you not doing it? Do it. It's actually going to kill every scv and your CC, by itself. SELECT THE FUCKING MARINES AND KILL THE BANSHEE. I COULD HAVE COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND DONE IT MYSELF IN THIS TIME, GOD DAMN.'

Yeah well, multiple common interests surely do help. Although, you can become friends with someone who share just one thing, as long as you both are equally interested in the thing in question.
And yeah, having real-life SC2 buddy would be priceless, although I live in a very small town. So hard to even imagine people here would be interested in computer games, let alone in SC2!

Yeah, I'm surprised to see how many people responded. If even few of them remain in touch with me, and we can share fun together, playing and doing whatever is good, then I'll be really happy, because that was the intent - finding friends to hang out with.

I'm pretty much entirely alone when it comes to playing SC2 -- none of my RL friends who checked it out stuck with the game, and bonding with people is difficult when you're restricted to ladder. I'd be happy to offer myself as a practice partner, but I dunno if you want to spar with a high diamond. >.> Still, if you'd like someone of a higher level to practice with, or just to watch your play and make suggestions, feel free to add Node.215 on the NA server. I'm up at varying hours of the day, who needs a sleep schedule?

This blog reflects exactly, on every account how my own situation is like.
It's getting so bad I log on to Bnet only to feel shitty and log back out again, and I think it's because how "serious" everything has become coupled with the empty void that is Bnet (physical representation would be a horse).
I just want to have some fun playing the game and if I improve that's super, if I don't that's just as dandy.

Here's perhaps a bit wierd offer - I'm not playing SC2 at all, couldn't even get it to run on my poor PC if I wanted, but I'd like to get some friends to watch the tournaments, streams and day9 dailies with. I'm only playing Brood War though. I don't expect you to turn to play BW but if you ever need someone to go to skype with and watch a day9daily together I'll be more than happy to join you (and your potential other friends). It's even harder to find SC2 buddies if you don't play SC2, you know
Maybe some day in the future.

I'm pretty new to the multiplayer part of sc2, since I've always thought my comp couldn't manage it, but then I realised there was an even lower graphic setting. It's really fun, but I don't really have anyone to play against, since the few friends I've got are way better than me at the moment. So, if you still need more buddies, please add me

Go into chat channels for streams, do it regularly and you'll make friends with the people in there and find a ton of people to play with regularly.

I completely get it. I have four friends in my friends list and only three of them actually play and only none of them want to become a better gamer (even though one of them is better than me so beating him is my ultimate goal in Starcraft 2). They're all Terran/Random and want to play 2v2/3v3/4v4s so I can't get myself some serious practice off against Toss/Zerg. I'm a gold level Terran player. Got Skype too which really is really fun.

I know exactly how you feel there, I played in the ASCWeely tourny for the first time ever this week and my first two games were live casted. I didn't realize I was being casted for the first game, but the 2nd game I knew and I was so nervous about it that I was scarred to show any aggression because I might mess up and in the end I just got rolled by a toss death ball.
Anyways I am on about 5 times a week and play mostly in the evening to night of NA time zones so I don't know how much our playtimes would overlap, but you can add me if you want(anyone that wants to can add me). I started as a Gold Zerg, but I switched to random and now stuck in bronze.

I'm a platinum level player that jumps races all the time, I can't just play one, but I'm decent at all three, just depends what I feel like playing at the time. Which does mean I could play any race if someone wanted to practice against a specific thing.

I'm a EU Mid-(I belive)Bronze, I'm a high school student so I got a lot of free time, pirtty much 14 - 23 CET every day.
I haven't played a lot of ladder as I'm scared to lose and I don't play a lot over all, but it's mostly because I don't have anyone to chat with or play with so there is no real edge for me, but someone to play with would make it a lot more fun.

Yeah, I totally read you on the not-having-SCII buddies. I'm in the same boat. I'd even have trouble making a regular online commitment - on weekends (except I guess this coming weekend) I'm (usually) away from my main computer, since my girlfriend lives in a different city than I do. (I'm a grad student at UCLA, she's working and living down in San Diego, and I don't take my desktop with me when I visit, and my laptop's too underpowered to play SCII without slowing the game down).
But hey, if you (or anyone else reading this) want to hang out and chat on weekday nights (probably around 8 to midnight Pacific Time, Monday through Thursday), feel free to add me! I'm ftl.796 (on the NA servers). I'll go through and add the people who post on these threads, too.
Hanging out in the Buddiship and Day9 Channels and checking the "looking for starcraft 2 buddies thread" has been pretty nice for finding people for 1v1s and for monobattles and some casual games, but I agree that it would be very cool to set up some sort of regular group of people. Maybe a regular team for some 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 so we can actually develop team strategies rather than random, or a regular group to be able to check out progress over the course of weeks or months.

When I first made this thread, I never expected to see so many responses from every one of you. I do not know what to say. I've been trying my best to get in touch with those on NA server tonight and admittedly, I am somewhat overwhelmed, but also happy to see people who enjoy SC2 to get together. Thinking of that - we all here love the same game, yet, all we've seen so far was competition, and sometimes even unhealthy rivalry between all of us, when facing each other on the ladder. Day[9] got us all to get together... it's actually beautiful thing he managed to do.
But please be patient with me. I've always been insecure, shy person in real-life. All these responses, they are overwheling. But, I'll do my best to get to know you. After all, we share this nice interest. StarCraft 2.
I'll be getting in touch with people on EU as well, so those who sent me private messages, you are not forgotten or neglected.
I've also made a channel on NA b.net - BT's Friends - feel free to join up and message me here...I've felt really rude with being slow to respond to people who contacted me. As I said, I never expected this to become so huge. I truly wish people to have fun together while playing & practicing in our beloved SC2..without bashing each other about leagues, balance etc...
Once again.. I am humbled to see people coming together to have fun, perhaps even with me, if that is what they'd enjoy.

I love playing 2v2 and really want to get better in 1v1. I'll play with any skill level, its all for fun .
I too watched the Day9 daily (just tonight!) and I only have 1 friend whos into starcraft and I totally agree friends get you into the game. When my friend and I play, its a blast, but when I play alone, it can be a bit boring, so reaching out for more friends seems like a logical idea! b(^_-)z

I sometimes teach my silver/gold league friends how to starcraft, and im always looking for new friends so that they have people to play against in a fair game.

Also, I agree Day9 is awesome. He is fantastic in that he doesnt treat it like a game anymore, he knows its more than that. When you look at it one dimensionally there is a barrier between yourself and everyone else out there who is lonely, and Day9 knows how to see in at least 10 of the dimensions.

I've just watched Day[9] Daily #269 and I do feel like I have no "SC2 buddies". I've been playing SC2 on and off since release, and most of my SC2-playing friends stopped playing the game entirely.
Without SC2 buddies, I've slowly stopped playing the game I love so much. The only thing keeping my SC2 enthusiasm alive are the great streamers featured here on TL.net (<3 HuK, iNcontroL, Destiny, MrBitter), Day[9] Dailies as well as the GSL.
I'm kind of a shy guy, so I figured I'd add my name to the Practice Partner thread here on TL.net to see if I could get some SC2 friends, but I just ended up with a friend-list full of strangers asking "Games?" every now and then.
I'd love to spend time on Skype with other Starcraft II enthusiasts, discussing the game, discussing tournaments such as the GSL or the upcoming NASL, playing games, going over replays, messing around on the PTR.

So for a while I've been kinda sad about the lack of people i know that play sc2, the people i do know are never on maybe once a week ;( so after watching day 9 i thought i would hit up the blogs and try and find some awesome people to play with. I've not been playing long only about a month so am pretty rubbish, but i love star craft so much i haven't gone a day without watching a stream or playing snice i fell ill with star craft fever, But every time i try and play theres no one on and I'm to sacred to ladder cos i am still making dumb miss clicks like hitting s to build a probe >.< i don't want to lose over and over cos of stupid mistakes that i shouldn't make.

I played as a gold Terran a couple of months ago on EU but because of uni I had other things to do. A couple of weeks ago I picked up the game again, switched to Zerg and played some terrible games. Somehow I got used to watch streams instead of playing the actual game (maybe a custom map from time to time), even though I'd love to have some fun games, get better, hang out in skype and maybe start a small tournament just for fun.
I also love playing other games than Starcraft such as Magicka, Minecraft or some old school fps like quake or cs 1.6.

I feel scared playing ladder. I got my sc2 copy in October and just played 48 league games till now. Since June I'm constantly (every day) watching live streams, coaching lessons, dailies, replay packs and TL strategy threads but I cant practice what I learn because I'm simply too scared to ladder and I dont have too much buddies playing sc2 to encourage me to progress.

Like a lot of you, I love this game but sometimes it feels that I'm alone, with nobody to share my experiences.
I was thinking about make a blog entry asking for buddies to share some good matches, ideas, practice sessions and of course help and be helped progressing.

I know exactly where you're coming from, and just like ondik, I've been alone playing SC pretty much the entire time I've played. I used to have a few friends that played SC and BW, but that was so long ago. I'm on the NA server and would love to make a few actual friends on B.net. Anyone that's interested, feel free to friend me and chat. I don't have TS or Skype, but I guess I'll have to start using one or the other here pretty soon. I'm a silver/gold league Protoss and love watching tournaments and streams.

Same here guys. I watched that video and he just grabbed my heart and crushed it with exactly what I have always wanted in the starcraft community. Getting on skype every once in a while and just speaking to friends about builds and unit compositions and the what not. I do have friends but not that many and even then not that many that play Starcraft. Most of them are in the WoW right now

Indeed, I got many people to play with as well because of making this topic, much more than I ever expected - even to the point I feel guilty of not being able to play with all of them at the same time. Haven't been around too much lately due to RL stress, although when I am, I certainly hope to continue having some good fun together.

Hey - im in a similar position to you. I have just started playing again after while off. Originally i played Terran and was in Bronze but im trying to learn protoss now. Ive only started playing again like 2 days ago so im really rusty, add that to the fact im not used to protoss and suddenly im in the silver league after 3 games - not sure how that works!
Anyway im looking for a few people to play (and socialise) with who are like me (basically a noob!) since my few friends who do play are much better than me so whilst im struggling to remember all the hotkeys for protoss they are building up an army to slaughter my few units!

I have also had problems finding people to play with and have as support while laddering and having fun in SC2. I have watched pretty much every day9 daily since last September even though I didn't have a computer that would run SC2. In February I decided to buy all the computer parts needed and put together my own computer to solely place SC2 and stream to help me go from bronze to masters.
So far I've went from Bronze - Diamond and back down to Platinum when Season2 started, really started hating myself and stopped streaming because of horrible losing streaks. I am probably Gold-Platinum level Protoss player and Low Diamond level Zerg player at the moment. I wouldn't mind helping you with PvP or PvZ. I actually wake up everyday and live Starcraft 2, and I love that feeling of progressing in such a hard and competitive game.
Side note: I've been a replay reviewer on gamereplays.org a long time ago for Company of Heros and still to this day have people from bronze to high diamond send me replays via e-mail to objectively look at their games and critique major/minor problems with their game(s).
I will probably actually make a blog soon to try and get more practice partners and help out lower tiered players to get better since the Practice Partner Retail thread isn't producing any results for me.

I generally only play on the weekends due to school, but with the holidays I want to really rank up. Hey Baby Toss, I just watched that same daily and I signed up for at TL account immediately after. I totally saw so many parallels with what he was saying and what I was experiencing in getting into SC2. I also am shy on friends on b.net and the 4 I do have are usually never on.
