what i'm about to describe is the "yeah man". He's not a doormat nor anything. But he agrees with everything that everyone says. He never disagrees with anything. Anything.

there's this guy i know, and he's a huge miami' heat's fan cuz he's from florida. And if you bash on the heat in front of him, he'll just be like "yeah... yeah.. they can do better...Yeah...yeah... they played bad that game..." And if someone else walks by and says, "dude what you talking about, the heat's played alright that game." He'd change his view suddenly to accomodate that of the new person. "Yeah, i agree they did alright."

Or if you happen to complain about anything, he'd basically restate what you said in different phrasing and still agree with it. Never have i seen him disagree with anything. If someone was always the butt of the joke, he'd would make jokes and try to make fun of that person even though he doesn't know him very well. He just does it because its what everyone else does.

They especially like to agree with what people of "higher social class" has to say, even if it makes no sense, he'll just repeat what they said and agree with it regardless.

When other people laugh at jokes he will laugh even if its not funny.
When people are joking around while making fun of each other, he'd jump in and say "yeah dude you're a dumbass" just cuz someone else said it as a joke.

These people upset me so much because they have no personality, and they don't stand up for anything they believe in. It's actually impossible to have an argument with these type of people. It seems to me, these people are not very significant in the world cuz they have no opinions nor style whatsoever, and are just bandwagoners of whatever the trend is.

i honestly wish i can go up to these peeps and tell them to stop agreeing with what everything other people say without making it look/sound awkward and have him know what i'm talking about.

If you are a "yeah man", please, please stand up for your own opinions and views. People will respect you much more for standing up for your beliefs than just agreeing with what everyone else has to say.
/end rant

They're super aggravating, although I hate the ones that do it specifically for one person. Like I have a friend who agrees with anything that I say just because he wants me to like him, although in the end I hate him for it because if I'm in an argument and he agrees with me against the person I just feel like an idiot. And besides, who wants to be around someone similar to themselves?
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

When I don't respect someone and don't want to argue with them, I will often sarcastically agree with them. Somehow it gets the point across that I don't agree while also not prompting an argument. It's pretty great. Of course, some people don't get sarcasm.

Classy move, calling him out in front of a big group of people. No wonder he's trying to be more like you.

I have found myself to do the same in some situations to be honest. Sometimes it feels inappropriate to disagree with someone who has a strong feeling towards something and you hardly know them.

Other times I can't understand what the hell they are saying because their english is poor so i'm all like

yeah man

Yea man, for me its like there is a direct correlation between how well I know them -> how much I care about their opinion -> how much effort I put into a response, with blind agreement being at the negative end of the spectrum.

i used to know someone like that, something quite fun to do is talk genuine grade a nonsense at the them and see what they say, or you can try and find something they cannot agree with. the other alternative is that he just doesn't like you and is just agreeing with you as its better than putting much effort into talking to you, it doesn't sound like that from the your post but i think its something some people would do with people they don't like.

A lot of times introverted people might just agree with you so that you keep talking, because they are less comfortable talking themselves. In their head though, they are constantly analyzing what you say, and even if they outwardly agree with you they may disagree with some of your points in their head. Partially it's a defense mechanism for not feeling comfortable socially. If you're not comfortable, the last thing you want to do is say something that makes you sound stupid, so you will agree to allow yourself time to think about the issue. When people like this do speak for themselves it tends to be worth listening to though.

I know because I used to behave like this a lot socially (and to a certain extent still do). There's nothing wrong with it, and calling them out for it in a social situation is just a dick move. (He may have been "speechless" but I'm sure he thought you were a dick, or at least was hurt inside).

Yeah man, some people are just like that.

Maybe they feel strongly that voicing their opinions to the group of nobodies they hang out with is not worth getting into arguments. Just because they don't express their opinions the way you do doesn't mean they don't have any.

i'm an introvert and if i hvae something to disagree with i'll say it. I'm not gonna keep nodding my head to something i completely do not believe in.

I called him out cuz at the time my friends were just making fun of me for laughs, and he came in obnoxiously bandwagoning when he had no idea what was going on. usually i dont call him out on it, but this time i did cuz If i didnt, i would be disrespecting myself for taking bs from other people.

I knew a guy in high school who was like this. Annoyed the living shit out of me. I was so close to telling him he had no idea what he was talking about on more than one occasion.

Generally these people are below average intelligence.

Just because you are confrontation-averse doesn't mean you don't have opinions. There's a difference between not wanting to make trouble or tread on toes and just doing it to fit in/be cool though.

No man.
I like being a nonconformist. I feel those "yes man" people are just bandwagoners without their own independent train of though/lazy/fearful of being different.

I was wondering why the origional post was written, this clears it up a bit. So you called the 'yeah' man out on 'bandwagoning' because it was 'disrespecting' you, but you didn't call out your friends, who were the true initiators of the 'disrespect'. I know you qualify that they were making fun of you just for laughs, a strange seperation, as from your discription he would just be mimicking them... indicating the insults would be similar. Guess it sounds like the guy just doesn't know you don't count him as a friend.

The "yes men" get far in the corporate world imo. They conform and fit the company's culture better than the "free-thinking" individuals.
