So my last blog was about being stuck in China not sure where to sleep. Since then I've got a new job that is fucking amazing, found a really great gym and am looking for a new apartment near there.
For now though, I'm still in a hostel. Sharing a room with 7 other guys.
Last night while I was sleeping and my Ipod was recharging, this really dumb American guy took it. Yes I'm sure it was him. Two nights ago we were talking about old NES/SNES games so I download Super Mario 3 onto my iphone so we can play it last night. It was late when I show it to him so we only played for like 2 minutes and then after he's saying "Man I'd really like to get my hands on one of those." So I start talking about the price and he turns around, disinterested. And then a minute later he says it again "Man I'd really like to get my hands on one of those." At this point I'm like... Fuck I shouldn't have made him want something I have. But after he said something SO blatant I thought he would at least wait a day or two before trying to take it and I was moving out soon and he didn't know that.
Who fucking says boy I'd really like to 'get my hands on' one of those and then steals it like 5 hours later. But that's what he did.. no doubt in my mind at all. I overestimated his logic I guess and now I have to deal with this somehow.
I'm trying to come up with some way to wizard a confession out of him. For example I thought of borrowing someone elses Ipod and then acting like everything is normal with him and pull it out and show him something on theirs... and then gauge his reaction and if he acts surprised or whatever as I think he would I could make my accusation. I just need to convince him that I know that he took it and then a confession will be forthcoming with a little intimidation
I'm also considering following him into his nightly shower, fully clothed and just ambushing him while he's naked. That kind of vulnerability seems like it could help.
Basically I want to hear any other ideas where I could trick him into telling me or at the least make him know that I know.
Besides this, life is going well and I'm pretty happy so I don't really want to jeoparodize things by fighting him but.. he stole from me.

i think you should beat him up. I mean if you are 100% sure its him and your not gonna go beating up the wrong person, you should do it because otherwise he won't really have any reason to give it back to you

do you have any allies in that room of 7 other guys? does he? confront him with others. if they arent his buddies and they find out he stole your stuff, they might be worried about their own stuff, so they'll side with you.

I remember once in 6th grade a kid took one of my mechanical pencils and I when I accused him of taking it the teacher got all pissed like "how can you just accuse someone of stealing your stuff" and made me apologize. I swear he took my pencil because I left a mark underneath the eraser that was unique to my pencil--which was "somehow mysteriously" also on his. It didn't help my case that he was black--obviously everyone (including the teacher) was going to assume racism when I accused him of stealing my pencil
These situations are never easy to resolve, especially if you're constantly around the person who did it. Good luck OP

Just go through all his shit. If he doesn't have it, steal something of his (or look through other people's shit). I know this generally isn't the right thing to do but you are either gonna get it back or not, what have you really got to lose now?

Just threaten him that you're going to call the police, he then probably realizes that a measly ipod touch isn't worth it. If it doesn't work, do the shower thing.
