I'm currently a 1st year college student living on the dorms, but for my 2nd year I can get into the dorms with a lottery system if i'm lucky, or I'd have to find an apartment.
In order to sign up for the lottery system, we'd have to sign up in 4's, as in 4 people per suite.
So the situation is that, during the first semester, my friend joe and i decided that we'll be roommates for 2nd year and try to get in the dorms.
Earlier in my 2nd semster of first year (this semester), i told joe about 2 other people(let's call them person A/B) that might be interested in being suitemates with us, and we agreed that we'll keep them on our minds. However, last night while on the bus trip back from my track meet, i got a text from joe. He said that he was gonna room with someone else instead (let's call him luke), and he told me that he was gonna ask luke if there was another room for me.
He then texted back saying that he has bad luck and most likely won't get in to the dorms due to the lottery system, and said he'll find an apartment with me if it didn't work out with the dorms.
So clueless i was, while tired mentally at the same time on the bus, i was just like .. alright sure.. w/e... I told him that i'll talk to him about it later today or tomorrow when i get back to school...etc...
So tonight, when i was hanging out with some peeps, dorm visiting from room to room on this lovely saturday night. I found the lottery sheet with Joe/Luke/A/B. Realizing that i've been excluded, i knew my back up plan would have to be used. -Living in apartment by myself.
This is just pissing me off because he backed out on something we planned for such a long time., and i dont take 2nd class behavior from anyone.
I guess it's not a bad choice living by myself because if he ever drops out of school (which he might), i'd have to pay for his portion too.

Man, He's like 19 alright has a wife, and had his first kid like last week. I felt like he was a solid guy since the beginning of the year....
I'd actually want to live with him but you know my pride's gonna take a hit if i do.

Dating someone for several years does not make him mature...dude fuck him hes not important. To be honest, he seems like a douche ass flake. Why would he put the name of the others on the list and not yours. tell him straight up u dont want to live with him, fuck his feelings cause surely he didnt care about yours when he didnt put your name down on the list

I agree with MetalMarine, regardless of his situation or reasons for doing it, the guy fucked you over. Don't stick your neck out to make anything easier for him, from here on out you worry about you in this situation.

Sounded like he never intended to help you in the first place, wouldnt feel sympathy if he got screwed over at the end. I would say its karma, regardless dont even let him in.

Dude, don't take shit like this from anyone. In this situation, I would just cut him off as a friend. Sure, you can maintain the minimum necessary to be an acquaintance, but just keep in mind that this isn't someone that you can rely on. There are so many decent people to be friends with, you don't have to put up with such thoughtless and rude behaviour.

Living on your own, truly on your own is something everyone needs to experience. I feel really bad for the people I've known that go like parents house>dorm>living with gf etc and never get that time alone. I'm living alone this semester, and it's probably the only time in my life I'll be doing so but god damn is it amazing. There are so many things to appreciate, it'd be especially helpful for people that are passive aggressive with shitty room mates like 90% of tl seems to be.
Anyways I wouldnt say living on your own is a good idea for very long, I mean I'm not even home that often but it's so amazing to come back and know NOTHING has been touched or moved and no one's bitching at me to clean up or anything because I can do it when it's convenient to me. Ah life

How the hell does that guy with wife and kid supposed to live in a dorm? Should have opted for an apartment in the 1st place. I would normally say be loyal (to some extent) with ur friends but in this case, i foresee a huge misfortune coming if you end up living with him, so just ditch him, in a nice, unhurtful manner - such that he won't feel bad about it.
