Not a huge deal or anything, but it's the first video game company I've applied to, and one of the best developers to boot. I've been checking their website regularly, waiting for something that I could do to pop-up, and just last week a contract position for a Development Tester opened-up -- I jumped on it ASAP. Figured I'd apply in-person today, too, to see a bit of the office and it's location.
Awesome. Simply awesome. You step off the elevator and on to to a video of Company of Heroes: Online being played in Korean (which is it's target market.) This is being projected from the ceiling on to the floor -- not a huge LCD screen or anything techno-fancy on the floor, but still pretty damn awesome.
Making your way in to the lobby is pretty neat, too; the reception area has a really comfortable vibe to it, warm colours and all. They've got figures in each corner, though I can't remember the specifics since I was focusing on the Receptionist and getting my resume in. Regardless, figures of all sizes, including one as large as myself (at 6'3",) and a troupe of smaller figurines on the reception desk ranking from smallest in the front to largest in the back, arranged like an army formation.
It may have been a simple first impression, but if any job were to be considered, "magical," for the 18-25-year-old Male demographic, it certainly isn't Disney, it's Relic. Hopefully I get a call back, so I can get the inside scoop on Homeworld 3 XD haha

Good luck man! What are you doing? Animating, coding, voice acting?
Dev tester. Note to self: learn 2 read.

Good luck Cedstick =D
I have a few friends who you might be interested in talking to. ^_^ Especially one I work with. He's gone through game design and has gotten interviews with a few companies, and it working on a few projects now. It's super cool. :D

Dear god, Relic? Creators of Homeworld and Dawn of War? Good luck man, seriously, those guys made incredible stuff.
Also I will demand leaked plans for Homeworld 3.

Might want to send Mora a PM here...

@Lexpar -- XD no prob.
@Raeleigh -- Thanks for the motivation! I may definitely hit you up later on Skype about that certain someone.
@HollowLord -- Don't forget Company of Heroes. I was on the verge of annoying I loved and pushed that game so much. Sadly, haven't gotten around to Opposing Fronts (which I own,) or any of the other expansions since getting back in to Brood War and subsequently playing SC2. Since the application, though, I've been wanting to install CoH again. Homeworld, on the other hand... man, not sure I can take trying to beat that just now. I remember Homeworld 2 being hard. Fucking haaaaaaaard.
@Manifesto7 -- Thanks for the heads-up. I considered it, but I've only met him once and don't really know him too well, so I don't want to pretend I do just for a good word Feels dirty XD Maybe not the most pro-active way of getting an interview, but I'd rather at this point not bullshit, just rely on my own merit and hope that's enough.

It's your call of course, but I think you have misguided ideas of bullshit. Networking is the most important thing in landing a job. If there are 5 applicants who are of equal qualifications, the one with an extra "in" will get the job. That isn't bullshit, it is life. Nothing dirty about it. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is foolish to ignore.
You don't have to claim to be best friends, you just need to say "remember me? I am applying for a job, please keep me in mind."
|
^what Manifesto said. Contacts and networking are equally (if not even moreso) as important as personal merit in landing a job.

Heheh, I remember "applying" for one of Relics balance crew at the tender age of 18. Problem: I live in Australia and they wanted Canadians so I knew it was just for lulz (they did at least seriously consider my e-mail application once I told them I was top 15 at all 4 factions at CoH).
Good luck sir. Relic RTS's are a tight second to blizzards, and that is a place I would love to be myself.

I know people who work at EA games, but.. Yeah. Speaks for itself. =P

@Manifesto7/Curu -- Ok, yea, reading that makes me feel stupid now. Thanks for that haha.
@iaguz -- Dude, god-like. That game was so hard for me. I gave-up pretty early at trying to be good in Multi-player 'cause I just got stomped. Funny saying that now, when I'm grinding through loss after loss in BW right now, slowly making my way to C ranks. Regardless, still loved multi-player, and followed the community a bit, mostly through a replay commentary site (which I forget the name of,) and Shawn Elliott, at the time of CGW/1up.com, since he was addicted during the last two years of their magazine.

GL with the application.
I gave up on Relic a long time ago. THQ's unwillingness to give the go ahead for another Homeworld, I moved on ... to here.

I wonder what you'll be working on, I'd guess DoW since COHO has been canceled. Good luck man!

Sick, Relic is a really good developer, I've always enjoyed their games. Good luck!

Oh Mora works at Relic? Interesting. Hiya Mora my bestest buddy.
But on a side tangent, gl with your app! I apped recently in the gaming field too, Game Design internship @ blizzard.

There are at least 2 well known people I know of that post on TL that work for relic. InReach (aka oversky best zerg from sc2 beta) and Mora

good luck as far as i can see they need a lot of help. i was a huge fan of COH and thought it could actually be a really good/competitive esports rts game but was ill supported by relic and not promoted enough and kind of fell through the cracks.
wish u the best tho, and i would pm mora as well
