This is my 1000th post with TL and also my first blog so I'm very happy about that! Thank you very much TL, admins and users alike. It is an awesome place to be and I'm proud to be a member of TL.

As we all know, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is one hell of a scary game. It's a game where it can make grown men whimper in fear and yell like a 10 year old girl. Well, I like scary games and I've played various ones such as the F.E.A.R. series, Resident Evil, Dead Space and Criminal Origins to name a few. Of all the games Amnesia was by far the scariest and most atmospheric for me. At times I found myself shaking uncontrollably, especially my legs and hands. My heart starts pumping fast and in a short amount of time I sweat profusely as if combating a fever. Amnesia does such a good job in drawing you in that it feels like your actually there. With all the unsettling sounds and events I can't help but look behind me every 2 minutes and underneath my desk, always fearing my own life.

Well, after I finished the game I was very proud of myself, not many people can play more then 30 minutes let alone go through the whole thing. As much as I liked the game I had to tell myself that I wouldn't play it ever again to maintain my sanity. I told my sister about Amnesia and she became interested in trying it out. I warned her that the game would be too much for her to handle and that she was going to get nightmares but she just wouldn't listen...

I taught my sister the controls and quietly sat behind her as she played. Carelessly, she walked her way through to destination after destination with no pause unless stuck with a particular puzzle where I would then intervene to bypass it. It was amazing watching her play with little to no fear for the first 30 minutes. Yes, the first 30 minutes...

"AHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT WAS THAT!?" was then uttered and I calmly replied, "This is Amnesia, the game starts now." I wondered to myself how long my sister was willing to play considering her frightened state but surprisingly she said she is going to stick with it! Unfortunately for her it only gets worse in worse inside the bleak walls of Amnesia. I knew this of course and admittedly, it's pretty funny when watching someone get scared and I had to control my laughter at times. Oddly enough though, I was also scared sometimes even though I knew when everything occurs ahead of time.

Further down the game around the middle, tears were the norm. I told her that she could stop playing if she wanted to and that she's going to be famous for playing through half the game at her age and she was pretty close to quitting in quite a few occasions but she always musters up some courage to trek forward. After learning what the word Amnesia is, she always jokingly mentions that she's going to suffer Amnesia by the end of the frightening game and we always laugh at that one. It's amazing to me that she has the balls to play this game that many others can't, I'm proud of her and I'm happy gaming runs in her blood.

I wasn't entirely lying when I said I would make her famous, mentioning my sister here in TL can be considered that!

Audio recording demanded.

I played Amnesia with the lights out and the surround sound going. Never been so scared in my life.

Your sister is a baller.

The only reason I can think of that it's so scary is because it's survival. Give me a rifle in Amnesia and I don't think it would be anywhere near as scary. The feeling of helplessness makes this game I think.

Major props to your sister! I got to the prison level before my psyche crumbled and I've been forced to abandon the game out of sheer terror. Maybe one day I'll muster up enough courage to finish the game but until then your sister has bigger balls than me .

Grats on your 1000th post!

Don't give her too much other scary shit, even if she likes it. It builds up. Almost everyone I know that's been exposed to lots of horror stuff (myself included) is generally pretty paranoid/frightened.

oh and does she have any advice for a 23 year old baby on how to face fear

you're seriously letting your 10 year old sister play a game that scares the hell out of grown men? when tears are the norm? and you're goading her on by telling her she's going to be famous?

Dude what are you talking about?

I lived on scary movies and love scary games and I barely ever have nightmares. I am as far from paranoid as it gets.

People get worried too much about these things. Kids are tougher than they look, and bouncy to boot.

I don't think I approve of this, but whatever. Older brothers exist to terrify their younger siblings.

Haha, I shoulda put a at the end, as I meant it only jokingly. I'm sure as long as the OP is not coercing her into it she'll be fine.

I'm not talking about any longterm scarring or other pop psychology predictions here, but this is a very, very scary game. This isn't some random horror movie, this game has scared a lot of grown men so badly they had to stop playing it. I was apprehensive of going downstairs at night in my own house after playing Amnesia. Adding to that the fact that she's usually crying during Amnesia, does that really sound like a game she should be playing? There's really no need to give her nightmares.

I wouldn't let my little sister play Amnesia. After I finished it, I kind of sat around depressed for two days, even with how the ending went. I suppose at her age it is possible she doesn't understand all the messed up stuff being narrated to her, but even so...

I used to live on scary movies and games when I was younger, now I find them boring and not scary at all.

Oh god, she didn't get to the torture room, did she?
Everything else in the game is scary because of atmosphere and tension, but the torture is just fucked up, I mean, they actually did that to people and I still cant get it out of my head.

Hmm. Weird. I thought it'd be the other way around. I've basically grown up on horror films and games ever since resident evil 1 scared the shit out of me as a kid, and I rarely get scared anymore. Fortunately for me, Amnesia popped up to save the day.

Hey cool I just started playing Amnesia today. Got 2 hours in, and so far I'm loving it. My problem is that I keep ruining it for myself. Whenever I get to a scary part, I think to myself Oh wow, this part is really well done. The tone, the shadows, the music, and the whole psychological effect all go hand in hand really well and then I'm like Dammit, I'm not scared anymore. I really like fiddling around with the physics engine and the lighting, they're both really well done.

hmm, I really liked the game until i got to what you might call the second "level"- it's in like a half a foot of water, and as soon as I load up an invisible monster kills me. There's nothing scaring about "you're alive one second, and with no real reason you see, you're dead the next."

Yup, just loaded it up again. When he sees you, you see a lot of splashing towards you and you die. Start over, and hope you don't run into it again. I guess I'm missing something, but they've kind of sapped my interest to keep trying
