Where to learn some math?

I'm currently studying musicology, but lately I've been thinking of maybe getting a masters of science. Before I can start taking the degree at the university I have to take a math subject since I only have one year, and two are needed.

So my question is: are there any websites or good books that I can start to prepare? I want to prepare before actually starting to study it!

What is your current level of math expertise? You're not being specific enough for us to be able to help you.
If you are not Bisu, chances are I hate you.

Depends on what sort of math you need. Are we talking calculus and other basic stuff, or higher math? If calculus, just pick up a copy of Stewart or any other standard calculus text and work through it, it should be pretty self-explanatory. If higher math, let me know what field (or what you'd be doing) and I can probably recommend an introductory-level text to something relevant. What would your MS be in specifically?

Since you are studying musicology, I doubt you know much math. Perhaps some basic undergraduate level calculus is appropriate, or something even simpler.

I was going to post the same thing Iranon did, it shouldn't be too hard to work through a calculus book, especially if you use cramster.com for solutions.

khanacademy has stuff for almost any level and is very good, and then there's also MIT opencourseware which is also extremely good(obviously)

If you're going into science I'd say Calculus or Classical mechanics would be the most imoportant, but that's mostly from a physics perspective I wouldn't think you'd need too much math for biology/chemistry/geology type stuff that you couldn't pick up quickly.

Thank you guys so much for the khanacademy website. It has quickly become one of my most favorite websites on the internet.

Many people are pushing calculus because its pushed quite a lot at school and university but there are plenty of fields in higher mathematics that require pretty much 0 calculus.

I'll just check the sites you posted and I will find my level, then post it here

Thanks guys!

The first examn for the masters of science program is this:
http://wiki.math.ntnu.no/_media/tma4100/kont10.pdf

I don't understand a THING right now (it's in norwegian, but hopefully you will still get a picture on how hard it is)

Are there any place where I can find tasks to do? Math is much like an instrument, you must do it to learn, so I'm planning on finding some tasks to do, then use the websites you have provided and solve them

That is Calculus. It will be VERY hard to learn on your own. You will have to solve MANY MANY problems (think homework) to start to understand. Figure 1-2 years to get a good grasp.

I strongly recommend taking a university calculus course. The MIT OpenCourseware makes for good supporting material.

Alright, well, next autumn I will probably start a pre-course with math for two semesters, then, if I get accepted, I will start my masters of science degree, so I got quite some time to learn it. Me and my old math teacher usually go out and drink beer every now and then, I'll probably start asking him math questions now

Try to get your math teacher friend to give you a few one-on-one classes. He should be able to guide you in the right path. If you sit down with a good textbook and think and solve problems for an hour a day in your free time, you will have a huge head start when you start taking a real course.

There is no substitution however for actual teaching.

Even though he's my friend, he's 52 and has a girlfriend and children, I don't think I can bother him and get one-on-one classes. A textbook with problems is just what I need, so I'm trying to find one on the internet, and then use khanacademy to help me find the solution! Do you know of any such site?

I've bought a book with tasks now. I'm only on the first chapter, so it's been pretty easy so far. However, I don't know how to solve this one:

7
12 * 2 (the *2 is in the middle, so you have to * both of them). I thought it was just to make it 14/24, but the answer sheet says it's
