So it's 10PM Philly PA. About a foot of snow has come down and I'm driving home back from a friends house (wtf was i thinking) until i get stuck 20 yards from my house. I'm irate and walk to my house and get the shovel and start to shovel on an empty sidewalk that's usually vacate and will be fine for me to park. This is until a guy comes out from behind me and ask me to help dig his car out.

Normally I be an asshole and make an excuse like my back hurts or i don't speak english (lol), but this guy was pleading and opened the car window for his woman. It was his wife who was going through labor. I then immediately run to my house to get my second shovel (thank goodness for buy 1 get 1 free specials from back then) and we begin digging it out. But she's REALLY screaming like that X-men girl who screams really fucking loud, so i figured what the hell and run to the next block for this chinese family that i remember were doctors.

I do not interact with this family outside of going to their house to trick-or-treat when i was younger because they had no children my age to hang out with. I knock and luckily they answer politely in which case i explain the station. He agrees to help and i quickly run back to help carry her to the home. I begin to help the guy (his name is Daryll? sorry if i spelled it wrong!)carry his wife and i gotta say, he must of been suffering cuz her grip looked like it would take an entire offensive live to break it. anyway we get in the house and and i can only help get some water and a some scissors. Daryll decides to stay so i quietly leave to shovel my car out so that it can enter the sidewalk (his car was luckily was on a sidewalk and was not obstructing traffic).

I eventually finish after a lil bit, but decide not to come inside the chinese guy's house again. I just squat outside the doorsteps but i could hear the screaming which is followed by consoling from the doctor, his wife, and Daryll, which is then followed up by even more shouting. While waiting outside, my cellphone is ringing and ringing from my mom (yea 20 years old and still a momma's boy :/ ) asking where i am.

Eventually i hear the sound of life. That lil "WAH WAH WAH". I pretty much just smile and enter the door and congratulate the couple. After a pat of the back from the doctor, and a huge lifting bear hug (literally, this guy is 6'1-6'3 190+ pounds, so lifting a 5'7 140 pound azn kid ain't hard). I decided its really late out and wish Daryll good luck and a safe trip back. But, before i go, i wish to see the kid who popped. I just took a glimpse of the kid and waved to the baby (his name is Jamal!!!!). At this point i just want to go home, take a shower, maybe watch some netflix or play some mvc2 training mode, but i never felt such a good feeling of helping some one out more than this moment.

I'm not exactly sure where the couple would be spending the night, nor did i remember to ask, but the chinese doctor assured me it'll be fine. So its about 12 inches now and counting of snow, my back hurts, my nose is running, i think i have a fever, and my car is in a tight sleeper hold made of snow that'll be a bitch to shovel out. But i feel like i was a part of something great just now.

edit: should get some pics of the storm right now. wish me luck in the morning (and every other east coaster) on the fun day of snow shoveling T_T.

and man i should really profead my shit b4 posting it D:

I'm not going to shovel anything, tomorrow is a stay-in day. Also, really cool, good stories to tell are hard to come by.

Good luck, seems like everyone north of where I am (southern VA) is really getting pounded. My family in northern VA lost power, and people are trapped at malls and the like. I know one person took 8 hours for a 28 mile commute.

Awesome story for you to tell for years, glad it worked out for Daryll Jamal and the mother.

Yeah, quite a few snowstorms, compounded with other stuff. My friends back in DC are complaining about snowstorms + lightning + fallen trees. I'm in NYC, and it's snowing upwards, the sky is orange (wtf?) and I'm in college, so classes probably won't be cancelled tomorrow, so I have to go outside.

Anyways, good read, a nice pick-me-up story for this current situation.

Awesome story man! Although, I was secretly hoping the baby would turn out to be Asian, at which point you'd take of your sunglasses and comment on how the kid was handsome, ''just like his daddy''.

Yeaaaaaaaah!

After that, the chinese doctor and the OP will appear on the Maury Show for a DNA test. Guile (or chun li) music will ensue when the result is announced.

What an awesome story, hope it gets spotlighted. Must feel great to help a couple bring new life into the world :3

I'm going to echo tofucake and ask where in the city this was (I'm from Havertown originally, now at Lehigh University, but I went to school in the city and have friends from it so I know a bit).

was around south philly. luckily no other car was driving around at the time so my car wasn't obstructing traffic.

so woke up and had about 4 hours of shoveling. went by to the chen's (doctor's hosue) but it seems he has already left along with his wife probably to work. even his sidewalk was already shoveled. daryll was also gone. probably went to Jefferson's hospital nearby.

i originally thought of taking pictures but the kid was a bloody mess and the wife has probably looked better to say the least ( pregnancy in a snowstorm is probably extremely taxing ). photocopy the kid and family in my head is quite enough!

edit: in other news my back feels like its jelly, i've got a paper due tonight, but luckily our house is completely shoveled ^^

damn that's a crazy story.

We had 12.1 (not one upping, just real number rofl) inches of snow fall one night, so I shoveled and all that fun stuff, and then the next morning the plow came through and fucked our snowbank up so I had to shovel again the next day. Not cool xD. It's pretty normal for this time of year though, since I live in the snow tundra of North Dakota. We've had 35+ inches already :S

No the majority are not, however, if you can find someone that knows what they are doing, home births are actually fine. Most hospitals try to rush the procedure, etc. Hospitals are a good place to have a kid if something goes extremely wrong though.

This is an awesome story. I recently moved down to Philly so I was in this storm, too. Unfortunately my story isn't as cool as yours -- I just got the chance to help out a Russian guy who got stuck in a drift.

How often do you get the chance to help someone give birth? Awesome job, Asian Man. ^.^
After all this time, I still haven't figured out the correlation between sexual orientation and beating an unprepared opponent. Are homosexuals the next koreans? Many players seem to think it's an unfair advantage. - pandaburn

So cool! It's always great when we can pinpoint those moments in life when we really grow.
If all you're offering is Dos Equis, I will stay thirsty thank you very much.
