I've been tuning in to some of the featured live streamers here on the net, as well as playing some highly rated songs on Osu! and I've been wanting to get into the foreign music scene for awhile now. However, I haven't really had any luck with music players like Pandora and Grooveshark. I don't really want to buy anything or download anything until I know my way around the music scene and using Youtube seems to be somewhat of a hassle because you have to know individual song names. Thus, I'm all out of ideas.
I've looked around TL forums also and found some cool songs but what I think I'm really looking for is something like Pandora Radio that will introduce me to knew stuff without having to nitpick songs from random forums.
So my question is: how did you get into the foreign music scene, if you're an outsider to Japanese and Korean music like myself? What mediums for listening to such music do you prefer? Do you have any other advice?
I'm really into Kpop, and I found out about most of the bands and song by visiting this website: http://www.allkpop.com/ a lot of it is pretty stupid, but it has band names. ^^; wish you luck. :D
I got into the whole kpop stuff through friends. being asian in california is pretty useful :p. I usually listen through youtube, I have yet to download songs >< I actually went to the big Kpop concert in LA (SMtown 2010) in september cause my friend wanted to go, so it was pretty fun. Follow the big Kpop companies on youtube perhaps? (SM/YM entertainment and other smaller ones) ^^
I used Spazer's recommendation. I also have a few Korean friends that hook me up with their recommendations. I prefer Japanese music though, since I don't understand any Korean at all. I also download Oricon top song list packs and check out albums of artists I like. You can also find interesting artists via music games like Osu! that you mentioned. For example, I found demetori and SHE from Stepmania.

Repeat as necessary.
This, and also skim through the Japanese and Korean music discussion threads.

^Yes. For something special as in K-pop AND J-pop by the same singer, go BoA. Also for J-Pop try UVERworld they're pretty good. If you want some english in the J-pop song listen to Monkey Majik (the singer is Canadian). K-pop IU! SNSD is okay, but not the best.

^ This. I got like 90% of my Japanese music this way. Little harder with K-pop, but if you hear a song you like on a stream, ask about it. Someone in chat will know.
Run man run before its too late, don't get sucked into their music, it will brainwash you nooo. but no, to each his own I say. Im sure you can find all your kpop needs in the official kpop thread
I listen to Seoul FM on http://www.shoutcast.com/radio/KPOP -- they usually play the top songs, a few really nice ballads, and lots of DBSK.
If you want to start anywhere for kpop, start with DBSK. My Korean friend called them a national treasure xD and they seriously are. Most idol groups nowadays have designated rapper/singer/dancer/pretty person, but DBSK = talent.
edit: they also sing korean AND japanese songs! try love in the ice, bolero (jpn) ... mirotic (korean)
For the last year or two, every time I hear a kpop song I like I put it into a playlist on youtube. Obviously I have a particular taste but I can link it for you if want to have something to put on shuffle that will expose you to the music

If you would vouch for your taste and you think you'd be able to defend it if you were asked to, then yeah, I'd definitely be willing to hear what you're into.
@Juliette Yeah, I've actually been playing that song on Osu! a bit. Its been kicking my ass : P Do you know whether or not any of Yoko Kano's non-GitS music is worthwhile?

Sadly I don't . I rarely listen to japanese music, more korean
The KPOP thread here on TL just recently just passed 1000 pages you should check it out .
As for KPOP, check out SNSd,2NE1,IU,Secret,KARA,T-ARA,SS501,f(x), shinee, bigbang. Thats all I can name from memory as I don't really know much at all about kpop . Have fun looking for new music!~
Thanks Megaliskuu. I have actually looked through the kpop thread on a couple occasions, but I just find the task of flipping through a 1000 page thread a little daunting. Same with google search results when it comes to things like this too, I guess.

Yoko Kanno did the Cowboy Bebop OST, which is widely regarded as one of the best anime OSTs ever. She has a lot of stuff, and most of it is awesome.
