[Q] ZvT vs. Thors

Hey guys.

So recently I was Thor rushed by a terran on shakarus plateau. I never been in such a situation so i wasn't entirely sure what to do. I opted to go mass banelings to limited success. The biggest issue with the terran's attack was the SCV repair. I'm wondering what should i have done? Should i have gone muta's and tried to sack his economy? Would have roaches or hydras have worked better or what? Or should have I just scouted better and taken advantage of that? I'm kind of embarrassed about this loss. Replay is below.

Artosis mentions that you can use hold micro to get zealots/melee units to attack the scv if they're close enough to them.

Also in the current PTR patch, repairing SCVs gets the same attack priority as the unit they're repairing.

Guess u didnt read the op...

Did u go only mass banes? because u really do need another unit to deal most of the damage once the scvs are dead. That being said, the thor rush can be very tough to stop in some situations.

Basically, you want enough banelings to take care of mnm and just have a shitload of roaches to deal with thors (make sure you focus fire). Mutas also work, but after a certain point they become very hard to handle. Mismicro = instantly lose everything.

Anyway, your best bet would be to just control your banes better and then have lings clean up the rest.

Yay for you not getting pissed and raging =) (I actually watched it til the very end just to make sure)

But yeah, basically there were 2 big things you could've done. First of all, scout. You had an overlord to the left of his base the entire game, but didn't send it in at any point. Had you sent it in, you would've scouted the armory, and (hopefully) realized he was going for fast Thor(s). A great counter to Thors is Zerglings, but with all of those SCV's you'll want Roaches too (and a couple banelings if you already have the nest built, kills the SCV's instantly).

Second, even if you hadn't scouted the armory before the initial attack, you should have known Banelings wouldn't be very strong vs. a Thor. Since at that point you only had a Hatchery (no Lair), you should have built a Roach Warren and got some Roaches out asap. I'm really not sure why you had such a tough time with that... Thors by themselves (even being repaired) aren't that strong, and a single Thor can usually be killed with minimal losses (resource wise)...
