Melatonine can help you sleep in a safe and natural way but it wont remove the tinnitis. Just *prey* that theres something causing it cause there are several cases of idiopatic tinnitis that last a lifetime.

I would try some random tricks like:

(Ear pressure)
Put your nose in the middle of your closed fist through your thumb and index finger so that your nostrils are 100% "sealed" against your skin ("ok" sign into "upwards fist"). Then blow air through your nose without allowing it to escape through your nose. It will pop your ears with minor pressure and that can stabilize your systems.

Tinnitus is a reaction to sickly loud music, so you shouldn't try to overstress your hearing ability with music now. Instead use like... something that makes your tired if you never get rid of it any other way.

EDIT: By the way, I'm more like what you would call "magic doctor". I kind of know weird things about human body after experimental studies and I believe in Jesus. I just hope you get fixed :D.

Ear plugs do nothing, since it's mental noise. I've had it since I was young and you just get used to it. The rainymood/white noise is probably best, there's also a link for the mp3 of it somewhere.

go to your doctor and try to get a prescription for Rohypnol... aka roofies from your friendly, local drug dealer. I believe its legitimate use is actually for insomnia. good luck.

there is a connection between antioxidants and tinnitus, so keep that in mind when making your daily diet choices =D

I've been getting short stints of it also in the past 6 months, but thankfully only lasting for an hour or so.. As a musician by career, its a pretty significant thing if it starts getting worse for me, there goes my job. This xmas, im trying to find some really really good earplugs and hoping that + taking more precaution around loud situations will help

Take it very seriously. One of my best friends had his entire life change as he suddenly found himself hearing high pitched noises preventing him from sleep. His was supposedly untreatable and has been going for more than a year. His ears hurt at every party, he needs to take antidepressants and sleeping pills and goes to a different doctor every 2 months, trying every possible solution.

I hope it just goes away, it's a lot more annoying than you think.

I get these if i use computer and listen to music/movies/series whole day, for few days. What helps, at least for me is to have a 2-3 day break from computer and keep volume of sounds surrounding me to a minimum (AKA rest in silent atmosphere for few days). Definitely not recommending listening to music or putting a fan next to you while you sleep.

Go to the local drug store and buy cold and flu medicine. Read what symptoms it treats, you want something that will clear your sinuses. The reason is that often ear problems are caused by sinus problems first. You just want to flush everything out and 'open' the tubes or w.e they are called in your ears. Spicy hot food, ginger tea, stuff like that will help. Don't try to stick anything in your ear.

These things worked for me when I was sick and had this problem.

Having really long hot showers helped a lot too and just gave some reprieve.

Do you feel pressure in your ears at all?

Maybe your inner ear has some problem. I got the same symton, and plus my ear hurt. Turned out I have to do an operation to fix.
Try another doctor. The more something close to your head has problem, the more dangerous it is.

It has been said before but I would like to empathize it once again - stay away from all sorts of loud noises for a considerable time(preferably forever). No loud mp3/headset close to the ears, wear earplugs when you are in loud environments etc. Tinnitus is usually temporarily but if not taken serious it can become permanent and then you will have to live with this for the rest of your life.
