Can wireless keyboard/mice handle the speed required for a game like SC2?

I have never used wireless equipment before and I really want to try it out, just not sure if I could still play SC2 and other fast paced games.

And if so, can somebody recommend me a good set to buy.

I use a wireless mouse and it works fine but its frustrating when it runs out of batteries. Im planning to buy a wired mouse soon but the wireless mouse doesn't have any delay issues if thats your question. Its just not as reliable.

Have to agree here. Apparently wireless mice are the same as wired mice these days. But yesterday, my mouse wore out so I bought a wireless mouse. Returned it the same day after fiddling with the settings for an hour. It's speed seemed fine, but something about it felt sluggish or imprecise when trying to click on units. Same when I tried with my brothers computer a few months ago, I immediately plugged in my wired mouse after finding it a bit sluggish.

It's quite sluggish compared to wired, I would recommend against it.

For laptops:

Wireless mouses is obviously better than no mouse. LOL. I don't know if the above comment is about a laptop or not but I will continue may comment as if it is.

Well, if your mouse feels a bit sluggish, you might want to go to settings and select reduce mouse lag and then change the mouse sensitivity. When I first got my wireless mouse, it felt sluggish but I did this and it works fine now. The type of mouse also makes a difference. I bought this one gearhead mouse that felt extremely precise and I loved it but the mouse driver SUCKS so much that I returned it because the driver bugged in a week. So I decided to get this logitech mouse and it works ok but I feel that it is less precise. As a result, the mouse you buy also makes a difference.

Razer Mamba can handle everything but its expensive 120dolars.
A lot of people says that wireless is slow and not good for gaming but i dont know cause i never tried wireless but i dont find it impossible with today technology is everything possible. but you have to payed 50+ to get nice setup

Wireless peripherals pretty much use Bluetooth AFAIK. Bluetooth uses slotted TDMA to schedule transmissions, where each slot is 625 microseconds long. Shorter transmissions just take one slot duration. That's about all I know about Bluetooth's MAC, but in theory, low latency of a couple milliseconds (transparent to humans) should be possible even with this old low-power tech. Achievable latency should increase linearly with the number of Bluetooth devices connected to the master, but even with a few devices, the latency shouldn't be bad.

In my very limited experience with consumer wireless mice, this kind of low latency does not happen in practice. I'm guessing that the polling is much less frequent than as-soon-as-possible, like I assumed above. Certainly, increasing the time interval between successive reports from the mouse would decrease the power consumption (battery drain).

So I guess most consumer wireless mice are tuned towards saving batteries, while wireless "gaming" mice are tuned more towards performance and low latency at the expense of battery life. Maybe? Or it could just be shoddy drivers at fault, or something else.

Anyhow, there is no technical reason why some wireless communications scheme inherently wouldn't work for this purpose.

i use a microsoft sidewinder x8 (wireless) which i got for free, and have never felt any need to change it. it has a cable so you can charge while you use it if you want.

the only problem is if the distance between the computer and the mouse is too great it sometimes loses connection. but thats very rare and only happens when i have them like 2 metres apart or more.

I used to use a wireless mouse with my laptop for Brood War. It was good for that; however, it it always gave the sensation of pulling the cursor around as opposed to pushing it. I can't recommend using a wireless mouse based on the experience.

For my desktop computer, I use a wired mouse and a wireless keyboard. It's mainly so I can maximize my usable desk space for school and such. While gaming, I can't really notice any latency like I did with the wireless mouse.

A wireless mouse isn't a bad investment, but I'd always keep a wired one on hand.

I played with a wireless G6 and a decent $50 wireless keyboard for ages-- it didn't feel any different from the wired setup I'm on now. As long as you're not using an incredibly shitty wireless mouse/keyboard, there isn't any major interference around, and you stay on top of battery replacement, you won't see a difference.

Some have to find out about this stuff themselves i suppose, but you're really only repeating the mistakes of others.
