I thought I'd share my video game tattoo...big props to anyone who knows what it means...and a big SHAME ON YOU to anyone who doesn't!!!! This was awhile ago by the way, perhaps 2 1/2 months, so now the wrap is off
Also, I did a couple more covers before I went home, finally uploaded the bastards now! Divinations by Mastodon and One by One by Immortal . Just incase any metallers missed it also I put necrophagist- fermented offal discharge there too :D.
Also, you might want to see a video of my band! Well unfortunately, we haven't really got much up yet. We have one song on the myspace, but I don't really like it, plus the next song we are putting up is sick, so I'll wait for that to show you bros. But anyway, here is the bassist of our band :D Please ignore the intro haha just skip it lol it's retarded I know!
And here is our guitarist/ frontman, he is pretty sick too:
In other news, I very much advise any of you guys to pick up an Amazon Kindle! Nice n cheap, lasts for ages, easy to download hundreds and hundreds of books! Reading my way through Aldous Huxley's Brave New World atm :D. Personally I would advise against the 3G capability- because browsing the net burns its juice fucking fast.
Your bandmates are sick good too, I hope I had guys like that when I still could play stuff like guthrie gowan... Well I probably still can but anyways.
Your drumming is awesome. The Necrophagist cover was sick, and I'm really glad to see a Mastodon cover. Their drummer is one of my favorites, even if the band isn't.
Your band mates are sick as well. You guys are all obviously very, very good at your instruments. Definitely post any material you guys record, I can't wait to see how you put your abilities to use! (:
Mastondon cover <3. Your bands guitarist is sick lol. I mean fuck, it's like Pettruchi shredding right there :O. Also, he's playing really nice, is it improv or some known solos?
Huge smile on my face for everyone who knows the tattoo origin :D. At least one group of people like it!! I got the living shit ripped out of me by my MMA buddies! And thank you so much for your comments about my drumming and band mates!
@ Boblion- WHAT A SHAME!!!! ahahaaha
@ Khyrandor- it gave me lemon-lime!! hahahahaha. I got the tattoo after completing my perhaps 7th playthrough!!!
@ Weaval- Yes mate you need to get this game. It will cost you maybe less than 5 dollars, and it is basically the best game I've played and STILL beats many of the FPS/Adventure/RPG games that come out. I hope that me being fanatical enough to get this symbol tattooed onto my skin permanently shows you how AWESOME it is- and you get it as a result. Give it a couple hours, GET USED TO the fact that you can't run and shoot- remember that you can always be stealthy and it's not just a game for beating up ppl- and I guarantee you will appreciate the quality!
PS. @ Papvin Luke will be really pleased to have such high praise mate!!! Petrucci is one of his idols. He has pretty much every performance by him on DVD. BTW of course Portnoy is one of my idols too!!! But to settle your mind, I would say about 80% of his performance is NOT improv. It is rehearsed and learned! We have played 2 of those songs live before, and he has practiced about every song on the album. He can improv very well though, he always talks about how he wants to make sure his improv is moving steadily alongside his playing.
I think it was interesting that you started the necrophagist song with traditional grip and then transitioned to standard grip (not sure what its called) Just curious if there is a reason for switching? Nice drumming btw
edit: matched grip seems to be what standard is called
@ Moose Actually we are playing prog similar to Pain of Salvation and Porcupine Tree (with some Rush chucked in there for me :D), the style of music of the guitarist, because he writes it and is also the singer. I've got some bands coming together though, and yes I am in two tech death bands, which will be making music soon enough :D called Hulking Monstrosity and Deny, Preach, Obey!
@ kidcrash Thanks! Usually I switch from trad when I am playing a difficult section because I feel more comfortable playing matched. However my trad technique is probably better at that tempo than my matched, for blasting. I need to practice more death metal! I can still never decide what sort of music I want to play. Right now I have to learn 50+ songs for my function band, all groovy stuff like Chaka Khan and Earth Wind + Fire! Practicing double bass is sort of pointless in that context lol!
@ Prototype The game's name is Deus Ex, it came out in 2000. You can pick it up real cheap anywhere, I guarantee it is one of the best FPS/Adventure/RPGs you'll ever play.

The more styles you practice the more dynamic you will become! Your blast is very steady so I can see why you used a traditional grip for those parts.
your guitarist seems like he's pretty decent at the technical aspect of guitar but seems blatantly uncomfortable using his pinky lol, and nothing that he plays makes any sense.
That out of the way you're all very promising, always fun to see up and coming people do stuff they love

Are you joking? Can you provide any video of yourself, because this guy is just insane in my eyes. You better have some godlike skills to say this. Waiting for your video response.

I understand where he's coming from. The guitarist is truly amazing and his cleanliness at the speed he's playing is phenomenal. That being said I do agree with Divinek in that he does seem very uncomfortable using his pinky (avoids it a lot) and while his vibrato sounds great it looks a little uncontrolled.
IMO he probably is self-taught with that style of technique. I could be wrong, but usually most teachers try to break people of habits like that
Thanks for even more kind comments everyone :D. -orb- and Divinek, I think Luke would be the first person to admit he needs work on his pinky...think I remember him talking about it...and you're right -orb-, he taught himself to play pretty much through listening to and watching a guitarist called Francis Dunnery who played with a band called It Bites. As a consequence, he has pretty fantastic legato and a good clean approach to playing which he picked up from following John Petrucci (he can play pretty much every Dream Theater song and currently is with a group of people recording a cover to the entirety of Metropolis Pt 2 I believe!), but some habits that he picked up. All of us are still miles away from where we want to be tho!
great playing dude, and talented band, but I can't hold back a little technique critique haha. The one thing I notice is that you play really thumbs up (french grip). this technique is awesome for stuff like timpani, but from personal experience if you work on turning your hands over (palms facing floor) you'll feel a huge difference. playing more of a german grip like I described lets you use the same finger muscles you use in the french but gives you a much more fluid line from your stick to your wrist to your shoulder, letting your wrist strokes have a better economy of motion. also, playing palms down allows you muchhhhhhhhh more control over the stick (especially when playing double strokes)
just my two cents, if you totally disagree I understand (whatever works for you works for you) I am just obsessed with hand technique haha. and again, great playing!
