Okay, so as you may (probably not) or may not know I possess a Macbook Pro 13" and greatly dislike it. I've found a friend who is going to purchase it from me sometime in the next few days. However, I do not know what price to sell the laptop at, and whether to buy another laptop (I have a pretty decent desktop so idk if I need one) or to keep the money and maybe spend $100-200 on some new peripherals for my desktop.

And Yes unless someone posts a very very convincing argument I will be selling the Macbook.

My questions to you are:
1. Is there any real point in buying a laptop ATM. I am not enrolled in a school that allows computers in the classrooms so I won't need it for that.
2. What peripherals are worth updating, at the moment I have a crappy dell keyboard, a Diamondback 3G, a LMO, a Microsoft lifechat LX3000, a 26" tv and a PoS 1024x768 as monitors.

Personally I would get a new monitor, because it sounds useless for you to get a laptop. I have a pretty old keyboard, but it has no problems and I love its simple design for gaming, but if you would prefer a new one then go for it, but you probably won't be able to afford a new computer monitor as well.

As for the price to sell the laptop at, I don't really know what would be suitable.

edit: If you can get enough from the macbook I would get a keyboard as well, but monitor would be my priority.

only thing you seem to need to upgrade is your headphones maybe. Your mouse is fine and the keyboard doesnt really matter. If you need a laptop get one on black friday. If not the nsave your money

No, there's no point in buying a laptop at the moment. Unless you can't see your life being as wonderful without your macbook that is.
Sounds like you could use a good monitor update. Is your graphics card very good?

I'm guessing you mean drop the shitty monitor and use the TV and a new one?

If you can't use a laptop in class, there's no point in buying one. A desktop with the same or better specs can cost 1/3 as much.

post specs on the macbook if you want a price on it :3

LOL the macbook definitely worth more than $500 unless it's horribly scratched or damaged.
This is the 2010 model? It should worth at least $900 (assuming it's well kept)

Macbooks are known to have amazing retaining value in the gray market.

$500 is a pretty good selling price for a laptop. Macs actually don't depreciate all that much and retain their selling value pretty well.

Remember that your laptop is pretty outdated compared to the current batch of Macbook Pros. The current batch uses the i# series processors, have a much beefer GPU, and have double the RAM if I'm not incorrect.

I'm not too sure why you would be selling a Macbook Pro. What is wrong with it? If OSX chugs after running a lot of programs, just use purge, actually close the program process, and/or get more memory. OSX memory management works a bit differently to Windows 7 so keep that in mind if you're having performance issues with your Macbook Pro.

Though if you're not going to be using it for day to day work in the library or something (as you said you can't use it in class but you might use it elsewhere), I would probably sell it since you're not using it.

The point of selling it to a friend is that you can sell it more expensive than normal :D.
Anyway, ditch the mac. Keep the money, holiday season is on you will find many sweet deals and decide for yourself

it's not that the macbook itself has gotten worse, but the competition around it is better. I got a PC with better specs than that for about $600 last year, but nowadays a mediocre C2D processor + an old Nvidia card might be $300 on a PC. Factor in minor reductions for being a used computer, as well as the 2x price multiplier for being a mac, and you get $500
