Hello TL,
Well, tonight I made my first ever tournament appearance in the ESL NA SC2 Female Cup #1, which is apparently going to be a weekly event. I'm very happy about this, although I know it'll take a while before I stop being eliminated on the first match. Best of 1s before the quarterfinals ... ouch.
My match was against TeHua, a Brazilian Protoss who turned out to be 1v1 plat and 2v2 diamond. Didn't have much of a chance there, but if you like, check out the replay:
Peanut vs. TeHua - ESL SC2 Female Cup Round 1
Brackets
I was mostly focusing on not getting supply blocked and not queuing up units. It was really unfortunate that I couldn't do any economic harass. Oh well. I will keep playing in these tournaments and hope someday to be livecasted on the ESL stream . Congrats to Navi for winning, and cheers also to hazelynut, who I was rooting for from the beginning.
Back to business.
Diamond or Bust Update
Day: Friday, Nov 12 Number of league games: 11
Day: Saturday, Nov 13 Number of league games: 2
Day: Sunday, Nov 14 Number of league games: 10
Wins/Total (Nov 12-14): 15/27 Starting Rank: 1 (Bronze) Ending Rank: 1 Highest Rank: 1 Lowest Rank: 1
Wins/total matchups (as Terran) vs.: Zerg: 4/6 Protoss: 5/9 Terran: 6/8
I ended up playing a lot of games on Sunday with/against friends, which was good because they were all better than me and could give me friendly tips on stuff to watch out for. Mainly what I'm focusing on right now is: - Not getting supply blocked - Not queuing up units - Not getting ahead of myself and rushing in without having critical unit mass
I've sort of abandoned the tricky 1-1-1 cloaked Banshee harass for now in favor of working on MMM (or MMT against Terran). Gotta learn the basics, after all.
One new strat I've been experimenting with is the super-early-bunker-in-the-zerg's-nat harass. X (the guy who casts my games time to time) recommended it to me after he beat me in a spur of the moment showmatch as zerg on his livestream. I started laddering again, and lo and behold, a zerg appeared! The strat worked to great success. X and I had this conversation afterwards:
I do love analogies, and bonus points if they involve StarCraft and/or cats.
Temporal is behind me at his desk looking up Protoss build orders on Liquipedia because he's finally decided to join us all on Battlenet 2.0. Why the delay? He's running it via Wine on Linux. He has grudges against both Microsoft and Apple, and he got SC2 to work fine on FreeBSD before, so he's been tinkering with Linux for days. Evidently everything runs fine except for the sound effects, which start out with about 3 sec lag and then eventually cease to function. So, if you're ever trying to run SC2 on Linux (god knows why you'd want to), know that there might be issues with sound drivers but it should in theory run fine.
Peanut out!

Sucks that you didn't win the tourney... but at least Navi from my school did win! haha Goodluck next week Peanut Keep on playing lots and lots and lots and you'll become super pro. Get that APM up! Get those supply depots up!

Hey, girl!
I was going to enter the tournament today too, but I thought it was tomorrow (?!)
Looks like we're in very much the same boat, except I'm a Protoss player (LIKE 95% OF ALL FEMALE PLAYERS EVIDENTLY) - I'm also a high-rated Bronze (lol?) trying to work my way up.
I personally need to focus on my macro after the game's been going longer than 10 minutes and work on the same as you, as in not rushing in before my army is ready and not getting supply blocked later in the game.
Anyway, awesome post! I'm following you on Twitter so I can keep up to date with this. Mad love.

If you're gonna make it to Diamond in any reasonable amount of time, you really need to be playing more.....

This is actually pretty wildly incorrect, unless you're missing the part where she practices in custom games. You can get into diamond with very few total games played if you win the vast majority of them.

She needs to play more games for the system to recognize that and bump her up. One step at a time.....

One step at a time..... The exact system isn't perfectly understood but I'm still fairly certain she's playing enough games to move up, seeing as she has. But really I see far more people with a gagillion games played in lower leagues and it SEEMS that any good streak of wins v. higher MMR people will bump you up, so to GET that streak I'd recommend getting better with custom games. If you get better by playing ladder your MMR slowly climbs as you win more, but that makes it harder to make the break I believe.
