So, for Grad School we have to take this research methods class, and it's focusing on the B-minor Mass by Bach. Not too bad, all things considered. But then our instructor sends out an e-mail last Friday that he wants an annotated bibliography of every source we've covered in class so far. This is a grad research class, so that's at least about 4000 pages of reading, over some 30+ different texts that he might have mentioned or written somewhere. I managed to track most of them down and made up shit about them, but I'm now just pissed because actually doing citations for them is keeping me up. I had to work all weekend and Monday, so Monday night is basically the only time I've had. Now it's 3:30 and I need to finish. Fuck busy work.

Yeah, annotated bibliographies make me long for the day of just being able to throw sources randomly onto a paper and be fine with it.
Oh wait, I can still do that.
Pretty lame of your professor to not tell you far in advance though.

are you sure it means every source covered in lecture? i don't think that "30+ different texts that he might have mentioned or written somewhere" are relevant. was there a list of texts in the syllabus that shows what you have covered up to this point? i would think that those would be what the prof wants.

i mean it'll still be a lot, definitely 10 or 20+ but that sounds a lot better than 30+.

The syllabus has changed like six times, so no one knows what's on it any more. I was at the library going from one end of our course reserve to the other doing annotation and speed cites. Now I'm home looking up full citations and editing. I tried to flirt with a cute girl from California to get her citations. Didn't work, but she did agree to get a drink with me once this is done.

Wow. Getting an annotated bib sprung on you like that without notice beforehand is really shitty. My condolences =(

It sounds like your professor is a little flaky if he/she has changed the syllabus six times by now. Unfortunately it's what your prof is asking for. What can you really do about it? Just try to get it done, man.

If I was in your position I'd try to get in contact with as many classmates as I could to share materials to make sure I'd have as many of the sources done as I could before it's due. Sorry you were put in this situation :| Hope all goes well.
