tldr: don't go to brighton trying to find a place to live on housing benefits.
I got to Hull bus station in good time and tried to book m Megabus (national servive) to Brighton for approx £13. Lady told me Megabus' "SYSTEM IS DOWN YOU CAN'T BOOK ANY JOURNEYS TODAY LOL". Phoned them 3 times for like £1/minute, was told I could book locally by on person and then told you can't do it anywhere by a manager.
What NATIONAL bus service has a system crash that means you can't book ANY journeys for that day????? I just watched a docu about Enron and it sounds like something as shady as them crashing the electricity grids.
So I'm worried as fuck now since its midday and I was relying on megabus SINCE I HAVE NO FUCKING MONEY WHATSOEVER.
Booked the next bus to leeds-> london and a train to Brighton for 4x the cost. Woman at the desk told me I'd have to pay an extra £20 if I wanted to bring my 2nd bag and guitar LOL. Obv I didn't bother to pay and had no problems boarding.
Around 8pm my landlord told me I can't stay in the place and he's interviewing other people for the room. That's it, I'm FUCKED. I'd phoned well over 100 people trying to find a place that takes housing benefits and he basically just cancelled. I had £90 left to find a place.
With 2 luggages and a guitar, weighing 10,000kg, I walked through Brighton for 1.5 hours, visiting four hostels that were ALL FULLY BOOKED.
I finally gave up and luckily found a hotel that let me stay for £20.
Next morning I am really worried. I leave luggage in the room and set out early. I go from street to street knocking on doors asking for a place that'd accept housing benefits as payment.
There are zillions of B&Bs here, but even the ones with a tiny sign on the door that you'd never notice down some backalley are charging £25/night and have no vacencies, let alone the chance in hell one would take housing benefits. Everyone was telling me it was hopeless.
I found a place. A damn damn nice hotel on the seafront. I didn't know for sure until 7pm that night when I gave the £100 deposit (I applied for a "Crisis Loan" and got £77 from the job centre during the day).
Room is fantastic, own shower, double bed. Duration hasn't been set in stone but at least 1 month residency. Set everything up, got to go on Monday for appointment to confirm everything with government.
Spent 2 hours trying to find the place, out of town, for job interview. Got the job but won't be able to start for .....6 weeks? Due to criminal check -_-
Got £30 now and no money for 10 days when I get £50 from government hopefully. Bought a vibrator that's as big as a hairdryer and made in around 1985. ITS AMAZING LOL.

I'm really not sure what I just read. You're broke and needed a place out of town to stay for a job interview? What are housing benefits?

About brighton: its epic.
I haven't been to many places in UK but i know what sucks and brighton doesnt seem to suck. Its reeeealllly RICH place filled with southerners and beautiful foreign students like polish. polish girls are 300x better looking than british girls it appears (there were tons in Hull too).
Seriously i have never seen so many women that fill my criterior for hot, which i thought was very specific but im guessing thats only because i lived in shitty ugly areas before : p
There are massives of shops, and proper shops too. All the hundreds of chip-shops in blackpool are replaced with proper delis and mini restaurants.
Got a tanning salon near to me, charges £6 for 6 minutes. I THINK NOT SOMEHOW LOL.
What I've gotta do now is keep looking for a place that accepts housing benefits, incase this place decides to kick me out (nothing is ever certain and Im back to where i started if they do).
Like i said ive got a job but cant start it for ages, also its an hour journey to get there and bus pass is £55 that i obviously dont have. so ive also gotta apply for more jobs and get some income asap.
Budget budget budget! i have £30 now and no cooker, i bought some bread and cheese but cheese isnt the cheapest thing around. maybe jam? ugh.

what? it plugs into a wall socket, how cool is that :D super powerful thing (well, not that i have much experience with vibrators)
housing benefits is when you have no job and no money and the government pays for your rented accomodation. its awesome if you have a place to stay already that accepts it, but its verrrry hard to move house if you're on it.
most landlords hate it because its paid in arrears rather than upfront. and in brighton, where most estate agents dont even have 1 flat to rent out (and i phoned 80 of them), its impossible to find a place that accepts housing benefit.
