Sure, school in Japan is competitive but it's not anything CLOSE to what you're insinuating. School in Japan was fun and interesting, contrary to your bleak notion that it's a savage fight for the top spot that leaves the students soulless and depraved. But, then again, you know more about it than me because you've seen Battle Royale, which was OBVIOUSLY more insight into Japanese culture than living there for 5 years + having seen it. | ||

Lord of the Flies which people who have never gone to Japanese school think has some sort of meaning when it's really just a movie about kids killing each other with weapons: you serious? I think you're the loser here though. It's obvious he wasn't being serious and was merely arguing with you out of amusement (and how seriously you take things). Yes, I'm serious. School in Japan isn't anything like what most people think Battle Royale means. I have lots of friends and an aunt teaching English there right now. It's competitive but by no means is it a violent struggle that leaves them soullessly selfish with no regard for anything but their own future. When's the last time you met a kid from Japan? Most of my friends from Japan when I was in university or from when I lived there are very normal people who had a very normal school life. But, what do I know, I just went to school and lived there. You're probably right about their school system being nothing like what I said it was. The amount of people who think I'm a loser popping up in this thread to troll me is funny, like I had no idea that people would try or think this sort of thing and totally wasn't expecting it. Ok, I lied, it's pretty amusing. | ||

At the very least, I understand it well enough to recognize where I don't fit in and where our thought processes differ. Still, I don't think it's fair to make the claim that I'm "not Japanese" when my family name is 神里 from my father's side and his mother's last name was 石井. I'm a fourth generation Japanese, and I understand the cultural gaps, but I also feel like having grown up there for 5 years during my youth was pretty influential on my personality. | ||
