I'm sorry folks, this wont be some old epic post from TL turned into a cute picture. I dont know why I'm writing this, but I guess its kind of on mind at the moment so I'm sorry if this blog contains nothing interesting for you. I will pay you back with more infographics next week.

Anyway, for the past year or so I've been suffering from headaches. Its weird cause during the day I'm totally fine but sometimes, I just wake up around 4 am. from this terrible pain. I dont know if its a natural reaction, but I just wake up and I feel really sick and I need to vomit my guts. Eventually the pains goes away or I get really tired so I go back to sleep. The next day, I'm feeling totally fine.

So this whole thing is something that I've ignored for a very long time. I cant remember when it happened for the first time, maybe I got the headaches about a year or so ago. Painkillers, especially ibuprophen are easing me a lot but I stopped taking any of them because I know they are generally bad for one's health. The problem right now, is that a couple of nights ago I woke up again from headaches and felt need to vomit. Surprisingly, I'm really sorry for writing gross stuff, it was not my dinner that came out, but a large amount of blood - yes, absolutely red warm and fluid blood. Of course I freaked out over it and went to the doctor. Because I have no symptoms of an illness (just like every time I felt perfectly fit the next day) he wasnt able to tell whats the reason for all this from a simple examination. I have no stomach pains, I feel like I can run 20 km and be productive 24/7. Its absolutely weird.

The doctors say I should be put under a complete examination, they didn't even want to believe the whole blood story initially. But I have a couple of exams in 10 days time and I'm really busy recently, I cant afford to lose 2 or so days going from one doctor to another to find out whats wrong with me. I dont know, if I'm doing the right thing, when I'm delaying all this, the health is the most important thing, but literally my 3 years in Germany depend from the exams I'm going to take in the beginning of October.

I have no idea what could be the worst thing to happen, but unless the whole blood vomiting thing happens again, I wont go to see the doctor. Its just weird, that on the age of 22 I'm already having regular headaches. I know my way of life is fucked up, and I really want to change it, but not now, really.

Can you ask for a medical extension on your exams?

dude wtf tell the doctors to suck your dick and give you a full body exam

once blood comes spewing out of your body thats the time to stop being timid and take care of your shit

in US you can get extensions for tests and shit for serious health conditions, is it not the same there?

I can get an extension for my exams in general, but I MUST pass them now, or I will get kicked out of the uni. Its like my last chance.

I would like to think the blood was there because of smth really minor, the doctor himself told me it could be nothing serious. but nevertheless, I've searched for some articles in the net, its kind of strange but its not really normal for a particular illness to vomit fresh blood, besides I dont have any of the symptoms of smth really bad.

Get the medical stuff done first, I'm sure when you explain the situation to your program chair/dean they will understand.

Yes I know that ibuprofen causes stomach bleeding but the last pill I took from it was from about 2 months ago, so sadly its not the cause for all this

If i started vomiting blood i would probably call for an ambulance, because that is usually an indicator that something is seriously wrong

wow. vomiting up blood must have been pretty terrifying. if you've had symptoms for a year and you're postponing checkups etc for another month, hopefully the effects won't be TOO hazardous? though prolonging this kind of shit could be dangerous for your well being :/.

My friend had a very similar thing happen to him recently. He used to wake up in the middle of the night and throw up, but I don't know whether he ever threw up blood. He went to a doctor who sent him to a neurologist who did some brain scans, and they discovered what they thought was either a small, slow growing tumour, or something that had been there since his birth and wasn't going to be any more trouble. But for a while they thought it could have been an aggressive tumour or other brain problem.

Go get it checked out asap man.

When I went to the doctor with [specific details omitted to maintain a false sense of dignity], it was misdiagnosed as an infection. I was given pills and told to go home and rest. So I did -- for weeks. It was only once I simply got tired of the condition (painless as it was) that I visited the doctor again.

I just finished my hopefully last bout of chemotherapy in August. I also have a higher chance of it returning because it was removed and treated a little later than is usual.

Please disciple, do me a personal favour.

Go.

To.

The.

Fucking.

Doctor.

Edit: Look. Even if it does end up being some one-time thing, something trivial or harmless... something you ate; I don't care. This has priority as of now. I'm pretty sure vomiting blood is extension-worthy.

Edit 2 before bed: Teach me to read threads when I'm about to fall asleep. I didn't even catch that the doctor said it might not be something serious, or that the painkillers you were on could have caused it. I definitely had an instinctive reaction when I read the OP, considering what I myself went through.

I'd still consider going to the doctor ASAP, as in right after exams / any life-important events. Don't wait "until it happens again". If they don't find anything after a full exam, you can go home happy. With less money, maybe, but happy.

And now to bed. To end on a more positive note, I wish you good health and a speedy recovery from whatever ails you. I love your posts on TL; wishing you well is the least I can do.

Oh jeez, this sounds really serious. I highly recommend you go do whatever you can to identify the problem. Vomiting out blood (especially a large amount) is not normal, and it can never mean anything good.

As for the busy scheduling, let me offer this:
At some point earlier this year, I was faced with a similar situation. I was extremely busy with school work and whatnot, but I developed a medical problem. Even though I went and got it fixed (I needed surgery + 2-3 days afterwords in the hospital >.<), I was still able to catch up with my work. I missed the SATs because of my problem, but I was able to make that up too.
What I'm trying to say here is that in some cases, your health is more important, and it won't be the end of the world if you fall behind a little, because you can always catch back up.

For someone who is so smart this seems like a really dumb decision to even consider not getting the full check up.

I mean what is really valuable to you? Even if you pass the exams and come out with something minor like an infection you will hate yourself for it probably because you could have still taken the same exams and treated your infection. Or what if you don't pass the exams even after using all the possible study time? From the tone of your post it seems there might be a possibility you would not pass. What if it is actually something bad [ leaning towards this since vomiting blood is kinda bad, I THINK ] and you pass the exams but spend years getting chemo for a tumor or some shit.

You. Vomited. Blood. Where's the line? I mean clearly there is a line for everyone to stop whatever they are doing and deal with the obvious looming problem. For some people this happens after they wake up in the hospital from blacking out... for someone so talented I would hate for this to happen. Do what is in your power to postpone the test to a later time or take it during your professor's office hours, you have 10 days. You have plenty of time to choose what to do and get checked + pass your exams.

Best of luck.

Think about it this way. If you die are the exams that important?

I had a friend in middle school who got a bloody nose in the middle of the night and was sleeping on his back, so all the blood from the bloody nose drained to his stomach while he was sleeping and when he woke up he vomited a bunch of blood. maybe this is the same for you?? I really hope you're ok, man. I agree with everyone here, get this checked out ASAP just to be safe
