So only a select few members of this site know that recently I have moved to the United Kingdom.

This is my general woe at the moment.

When I was back home in Australia, I just bought a 1337 box PC, which was capable of running SC2 in ultra easily...in late game 3v3's and 4v4's with the masses of troops and general massive amount of shit happening. This was during the beta phase when I wasn't so committed to playing or too interested in playing regularly.

However, when the game was released I immediately bought it here in the UK. Now from semi-interest it has developed into near addiction...but woe is me all I have is a netbook, with my $2000 1337 box being back home.

Now I can't even play into a mid-game 2v2 without it becoming a slide-show. Even late-game 1v1's make it impossible to micro units (all lowest settings including 2D units).

What's a man to do? Limited funds (due to rent) and the price of computers being even higher over here (when I have a perfectly awesome computer back home) and I really want to get great at this game...high diamond - I think it would be possible for me...

So, TL - what should I do? HOW CAN THIS BE RECTIFIED?

Is there some sneaky way to import something at a really low shipping cost?

Ideas people, ideas...please! Looked into airmailing something of around 20kg...but due to the enormous distance between here and Australia it's coming in at around $250 minimum.

I'll be able to pay that in a while, but by then...region locks will be off and Koreans will be dominating, I need to practice to dominate Koreans.

This is a dilemma that transcends life.

Ideas Team, ASSEMBLE!

What's the stats of your computer in the UK?
What OS is it running?

EDIT: Overclock? Downgrade the OS to XP so it uses less RAM?

As it's a netbook the specs are very dire; inbuilt GFX for one.

Running Windows 7 32 Bit
2GB RAM
Intel U2300 Dual-Core 1.2 GHz
Inbuilt GFX.

3.3 on the Windows Experience Index...my other PC is 7.6-7.9 on all components.

Abandon all hope since obviously Koreans will dominate anyway and pour your frustration, resentment and creative energy into another one of your legendary threads?

Worth a shot.

I can't abandon hope yet!

I have another thread idea...I had it shortly after the Southside one...haven't ever taken the time to make it happen.

The main problem is the CPU speed, it's extreamly low. I don't think you can overclock it to SC2 levels (>2 GHz).

Then again I don't know anything about overclocking

That would be amazing and I would it start tonight if so. But I'd feel like an asshole for doing something like that.

Not to mention the fact laptops are shit when it comes to cooling; and overclocking would rape the shit out of it and probably deteriorate performance & perhaps make it shut itself off after 10 minutes.

It's not just me trying to complain, it's me trying to find out if anyone knows a decent way to import something as heavy as a PC without it costing (not a whole lot in reality, but a lot for a man who is paying a lot of rent) the earth.

just get someone to disassemble it, and ship everything except for the case + powersupply, buy a temporary psu+case for your parts.. should be quite a bit cheaper.

Well, I suggested it for two reasons: a) gaming on regular notebooks is tear-shedding, kitten-punching, ball-breakingly awful and b) I'd gladly pay for it myself if I had some cash on hand; hell, Southside was the first thing I bookmarked after I bought a new computer, years ago.

Point is, please write more! :D

Cheers dude, I hadn't even thought of that...amazing. I might just do that.

TL comes through...can't believe I never thought (outside the box/case LOL?) of that. Just was staunch in thinking - hmm...it needs to be all together!

I appreciate the sentiment man, but I'd expect that off no-one, especially not an e-buddy.

Agreed, it's amazingly shit to play on a netbook, the kitten-punching was a nice touch.

I'll try to write some more irrespective.

see if anybody from TL is making the trip over from aussie to uk, and whether they can bring it to you for a small fee?? :D but the disassembling idea seems very solid to me, and much more feasible.

Yeah thats a really good idea to ship the components. Just make sure they're in anti static bags and are well padded and all. Also, if you don't want to fork out the money for a case you can always use a milk carton and zip ties

Edit: And you'd have to get a power switch which you could make but if you don't want to you can get some premade ones http://www.xoxide.com/hspc-atx-control-kit.html

Haha, that's unique.

The cooling system could quite easily be your home air-conditioning.

Oh man that case is so badass ^^

You dont even have to get a power switch, when mine was broken I spent 3 months turning my pc on with a screwdriver (on the motherboard power pins), perfectly fine too :D

GL with it man.

That is incredibly badass... Smurg do you have one of those laptop cooling bases or whatever they're called? A good one costs like $20 and mine seemed to help my laptop when I play sc2.
