yay! I got the job at MEgamers.com as a reviewer! I am just so frikken happy right now. MEgamers is the biggest middle east gaming related site out there and reviewing for them is a big opportunity! They are no where big as stuff like kotaku, IGN etc. but its still big to me! Apparently they really liked the sample reviews I sent them :D:D!
So for now, I am going to PS3/PSP games for them. The job doesn't pay, it just means they send me the game through mail and I review and keep it to myself ^^!
For those who are wondering, the "play the FUTURE" blog series will not stop. I will just be simply reviewing games that I don't review on MEgamers.com here at TL.net! Thanks for all the feedback in my previous posts!
YAYYAYAA!! ^^

WOW man, that's really great. Reviews (of games, film, food) are something I like to do myself, but I've hardly even entertained the notion of actually getting published. Congrats!

getting a brand new video game for doing a review of it isnt too bad a deal at all
|
wow congrats!! do a review of Yakuza 4 and Phantasy Star Portable 2, either way I look forward to reading.
|
Congrats. Sounds great.
Would be even better if it paid a bit on a side but well, can't have everything
|
Job doesn't pay.=( I hope that in the future you get paid so it becomes a dream job. But congrats anyways for getting the job=)

Although, a video game costs 60-80 dollars, while minimum wage here in Ontario is 10.25 dollars. So if a reviewer spends more than 6 hours on the game it's probably not worthwhile.
I seriously doubt a good review can be written with only 6 hours of playtime.
Anyways, it's kind of nice, but I suspect it's going to get dry very soon when they keep sending you games that you absolutely abhor.
|
Well done dude, all depends on the quality of games you get sent and your preferences
Sounds good though, counts for experience and something to put on your CV anyway hehe

Their PSP section is pretty lacking, I can pretty much cover a huge amount of that gladely! So many good PSP games coming soon. They also let you pick preferences if I remeber correctly, so I'm avoiding hardcore FPS like MW2 ( I am not that good at them and pretty much clueless) and Sports games (except tennis). I like a range of games so I'm pretty fine with all this. I'm taking it as a chance to improve my writing and aim for greater things in the years to come!

Congrats man, free games!!

Anyways, it's kind of nice, but I suspect it's going to get dry very soon when they keep sending you games that you absolutely abhor. Don't forget that you can't exactly sell the games for retail price even if you get them before release. The most you will get is 3/4 of the retail price, for PSP games this will even drop down to 1/3 and you actually have to invest time into selling the stuff. Also, if you don't sell, you not only have done a few hours of work, but you haven't got any money out of it. You only have a luxury asset that is dropping in value 10x faster than a car. Did i mention that all download and most PC games come with review licences hat have to be activated on the internet and cannot be re-sold.
My advice would be that you treat it like a part time job 15-20 hours a week (2-3 reviews a week) and if you don't have a payed position, even at minimum wage after 6 to 8 months, you should get out of there asap. Reviewing games is fine and all, but if you can't make a living out of it, it's just unpaid work. And it IS work ... believe me.
/edit: I did the same for a little longer than i should have, but ultimately gave way for a more lucrative job which turned out to be almost as entertaining

That is a total kick ass job that'll be sure to make ur friends jealous : ) hope it grows to something more further down the line!!

Its not that demanding , as far as they told me they give you a period of 2 weeks to write a review. Its not anything like being full time or whatever, I think writing around 2-3 reviews sounds good. I'm mostly happy about this because of getting readers and having an opportunity to improve.

Congrats! To review a good game, the experience must be amazing but be prepared to spoiled yourself with some bad games
