Anyone with experience in HR?

I've applied for a HR position in a fast growing company and they have offered me a 2 month-trial position. As this is my first job, and one that is in a field new to me I'm making heavy preparations so I turn to any wisdom TL.net has to offer.

It'd be greatly appreciated if anyone with professional or academic backgrounds in business, management, social policy etc to recommend any seminal texts or offer general advice that would be essential reading when dealing with issues of recruitment strategy and augmenting corporate culture.

Nothing on HR specifically, but there are plenty of people knowledgeable in related topics... for instance in Social Dynamics, communications and social sciences and especially in various business topics.

Back on topic though, like Alethios said, the Manpower thread is a good place to start but I would guess that it's all a matter of being able to deal with all kinds of social situations.
