So a friend of mine from school (we weren't close or nothing, just kinda knew each other) just messaged me on BNet and said "Your record is awesome!" I would like to state for the record that its not. I'm a very average player (800~ diamond, about 60% winrate).

But the average person you know in real life is terrible. This particular guy is bronze. It's so cool how these people look at your record and think you're some sort of super being. Such a different feel when comparing yourself to the average casual gamer than when comparing yourself to these teamliquid SuperPeople.

Anyone else have real life friends who think you're spectacular?

I am more worried if I beat someone with a 4pool, then it turned out that that guy is from my school, then the next day I got beaten up IRL.

I kind of hate when my friends ask for me to play with them 2v2/3v3 because I know I'll rage at them for being bad, and I don't want to do that. Also you don't get any better playing people that are worse

This hasn't been a problem for me because my computer is too bad to handle 2v2/3v3. So if they ask, I can honestly tell them I can't play. And I don't request to play with these people because I feel bad rolling them. But sometimes they ask me for a 1v1 and its still fun. I went mass DT vs a friend in silver yesterday (was his idea so I dont consider it BM

)

When I tell my friends I'm Diamond, they think I'm a complete freak (which for once is not the case, I have played like 35games). So no, they don't think I'm spectacular.

Yeah I get this problem a lot =/

I feel like a dick declining their offer, but I'd rather play with people around my skill where I'm not carrying a team of IRL friends to platinum...

i try hard not to let it get to my ego

i play 2v2 with them all the time, but i usually do shit like mass queens, pure marine/medivac and dropping everywhere, mass infestor, phoenix/dt, mass thors etc

its weird how our winrate is still over 50% too lol.

Yea I have that. In SC all my friends used to play vs me and they would lose most of the time (ranging from 2-4v1 lol). They are just reallly bad and it sucks because they rarely ever want to play vs me because they know they will get stomped. Once 1v4 I literally heard them say "all right gather our armies and lets attack" then I rolled their combined army >< and im not a good player either.

i've been quizzed on the shortcut keys before. both games.

they're always strangely amazed that i know them even though they're almost all intuitive.

one way to do it is play team games with IRL friends and just practice 1v1 builds in the team game while not worrying so much about winning

i feel like one of the lucky few...i'm ~700-800 diamond and one of my really good RL friends is basically on the same level as i am. we're probably 50% winrate against each other in 1's, and we both really enjoy playing.

funny thing is, neither of us played anything but casual RTS before SC2.

I actually do have one good RL friend about my level too, but he hasn't been in to 1v1s too much. Was playing team games for a while and is currently playing WoW. T_T
